Hah! If this assembly of maps shows one thing its that my assertion that germany always gets split is right :p And oh so randomly nonsensically split too :p

Gian Galleazzo Visconti and Filippo Maria Visconti both successful; a treaty with the Holy Roman Emperor extends the boundaries of the Empire to the southern boundaries of the Duchy of Milan; in exchange, Milan is made a Kingdom. This is a board-game version of the map.
Visconti Milan was part of the HRE. Who do you think raised it from county to Duchy?

Archduchy > Kingdom
No.

Uh, actually a kingdom is above an archduchy in rank. An archduchy's above grand duchies and regular duchies, though.
No. Dukes<Archdukes<Grand Dukes<Kings. Grand Dukes have the adress "Royal Highness", hence theyre actually not nobility but low royalty. Archdukes on the other hand are Dukes, "just" the first among dukes (hence Arch-).

Not as the Habsburgs saw it.
??? In the Grand Titles of the HR Emperors and Austrian Emperors the Archducial title always ranked lower as the royal titles.

This one, for me. :D
Well, thats actually some sensible interior HRE borders for a change ;)

Why is it a GIF?
Why not? I most always save my maps as GIFs. Its less space consuming than both jpg and png.

It pixellates. GIFs are OK if you start with a GIF file and then modify it, but if you make it in a raw file and then save it as a GIF, you get horrible pixellation of all the nonstandard colour shades.

Quite the noob map- Excuse my lame explanation of blank spaces in Africa and South America, due to my lack of knowledge on colonial borders there.

Basically, it a heavy-colonial world where the technology is somehow 50 years ahead of it's time (So since the date is 1879, the tech levels would be around 1929).

And yes, that is a Chinese colony occupying western South America. I guess they industrialized on par with the West to resist European colonization.

As you can see, the British are wanking all over the place, and the US has somehow managed to annex Vancouver Island (Now Seattle Island). The Roman Republic (I guess it never turned into an empire) is still alive and kicking, and Germany/Prussia is renamed Deutchland (Wrong spelling in German and English, I know).

Ameuxille (Mexico) is now French, and Hispania (Spain) is still recovering from the eight-year Franco-Hispanic War.

I don't think making a country weaker than it was IOTL qualifies as a nationwank, really.

Oh, and what's an "Imperial Republic" meant to be?

Well, the Brits lost some and gained some.

As for Imperial Republics, they're basically a monarchic dynasty with a senate. However possible that might be.

Do keep in mind we're talking about a China with a navy comparable to European powers.

Honestly, I'm very happy with my recent Swiss map. Although the subject matter isn't that exciting, I've managed to:
-Avoid using a recolored basemap
-Avoid using the UCS
-Include clean, thick lines on borders
-Broach a topic/region/period of time not commonly found in AH maps
-Present a (hopefully) simple and understanble legend
-Make it so that all the information can be understood at a glance

That's what a map's for, isn't it?

I resized it a little. The full-sized version is here.

Much like the tour bus company in Cambridge, he's also missed the S out of Deutsch.

Only in MSPaint. Its the same with JPEG, really: JPEG only pixelates if you sav eit as jpg in MSPaint. Of course, non-pixelated JPG are also of a bigger filze size. Now, proper gifs are not limited by colours, and 256 colours (which MSPaint gifs use) is enough for non-fancy maps (i.e., all my maps ;) ) anyways.

Which I pointed out in my initial post. Hell, the map is an ASB itself.
All right, you did say it in your post so I admit I must have missed that.

However, "it's ASB" is not an excuse for being sloppy. Not to bite your head off but we see too much of that all the time.

Yeah, I agree there. However, it's not easy to make an accurate AH world map without proper research or education. The mind makes what it wants to see. In this case I was experimenting with several PODs and wondered how big a few butterfly ripples would be.

Without a plausible timeline and/or POD, any map on this forum is ASB.

Here's one from years past, made in Paint but I remember spending a good deal of time on some of the flags.
