A Worlda of my last full Victoria 2 run in HPM. (modded)
The year is 1929, Norman Thomas of the Socialist Party of America has just been sworn in as the country's next President. 15 years after the Great War, the world has settled into an era of peace led by the undisputed world leader, America. The New World stands firmly united under the American sphere (if you ignore Chile), African decolonization is in full swing (again, if you ignore the random Communist Danish Egypt), and China has finished its reunification wars.
The United States stands as the undisputed world hegemon, more than double the strength of its closest competitor, Tsarist Russia. America is a multi-ethnic, multicultural, and tolerant social welfare state. Millions of immigrants arrive every year, with the current surge coming from India being one of the largest waves in American history. There has been some backlash to this recent wave, calling for newly arriving immigrants to have harder citizenship requirements, but they are only a small minority of the population.
Tsarist Russia is the next ranking power, but nowhere near as strong as the US. The Tsar is fine with this, so long as Russia's territory remains intact and its sphere unchallenged.
The British Commonwealth is the result of the British people getting tired of losing several wars to their American kin on orders of the vengeful monarchy. After the Great War cost the British the remainder of the empire, the resulting economic downturn led to a revolution and the monarchy fled to South Africa (the only British dominion not on friendly terms with the US). The British Commonwealth quickly allied with the US in order to recover from its economic situation.
The Federal Republic of Germany is allied with the US and was the other victorious Great Power power in the Great War , finally kicking the French hard enough they got the message that Alsace-Lorraine is not theirs anymore. Germany never got into the colonial game and is focusing more on building a sphere in Europe, especially now that Danubia is not a Great Power. Germany is slowly re-integrating the small breakaway states it was forced to give up many Franco-German wars ago.
The Third French Republic is holding onto its remaining colonies for dear life. Of the Great Powers not allied to the US, France has the friendliest relations, the two sharing an alliance for much of the 19th century barring the Great War where both nations never actually fought one another.
The Kingdom of Italy, like Germany, has no colonies. Instead, Italy is focusing on building an economic Roman Empire through its sphere of influence in the Mediterranean. While Italy is not allied with the US, its biggest sphere-lings, the Ottomans and Spain are. This results in the US and Italy cooperating on several ventures.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands is a Great Power simply because they still hold Indonesia and took some of the French and British colonies at the Great War peace conference.
The Empire of Japan is the first, and so far only non-Western Great Power. Japan is still sore over losing Hokkaido to Russia but otherwise has nowhere to expand. The rise of China will likely knock it off the Great Power list (and ironically Japan may end up in China's sphere).
The Ottomans have managed to somewhat reform and are holding on to their empire. The Ottomans, alongside Danubia and Portugal, maintain significant colonial empires but do not have the industrial or military output to compete with the other Great Powers.
Qing Dynasty China is allied to the US and has recently finished reconquering the warlords that attempted to break away when China finished modernizing. China is rapidly industrializing and is guaranteed to become a Great Power in the next few years.
The Republic of India is a result of the Great War. The US demanded Indian independence at the peace conference and since then the subcontinent has been industrializing under guidance from the US. The close ties between the two nations has led to massive immigration to the US, not that India minds due to its sheer population. India is modeling itself after the US, in terms of a tolerant, multiethnic and multi-religious society, hence there is not as much religious/secretariat violence or any demands for a separate Muslim state.
