East Asia's Wartime Plans - Translated by the ISW
By the 2050s, Severe Climate Change has ravaged the world for almost two decades. The once-great powers of the United States, the European Union, and Russia has fell apart in their anarchies, while the People's Republic of China proclaimed itself as the victor and the new sole-superpower of this new era. Unfortunately for the victors, China soon falls into internal chaos as the demographic collapses struck a major blow to whatever influence is left from the CCP, which has begun to implement totalitarian measures to save itself.
Off to their eastern coasts, equally ravaged by the rising sea levels, the nations of Japan and Korea fell into a state of revolution in the 2040s as the populace grew tired of the incompetence of their governments. However, these revolutions would eventually be hijacked by radicals seeking to resurrect the concept and idea of a Pan-Asianist State that would lead the world through the ensuing apocalypse. At first, the ideology encompassed all Asians in the continent of Asia, allowing the peoples from collapsed nations such as Singapore, The Philippines, Bangladesh, and more to migrate to both Korea and Japan, saving the two nations from the demographic collapse that China experienced. However, "Pan-Asianism" eventually took a turn from what was essentially a leftist' wet dream to a xenophobic ultranationalist state that sought to not only destroy the "Chinese and Indian parasites" but to also "purge the world of Western Degeneracy". Silently, the East Asian Federation expanded its influence, securing puppet regimes in Southeast Asia and Africa to feed their ever-expanding thirst for conquests, something that the resurgent United States and African Union noticed and called out in the United Nations. All the time, East Asia denied the accusations, using this as an opportunity to spread the propaganda back at home of how the hypocritical west seeks to stop the progress of East Asia out of petty jealousy. While the gig worked for a while, no one can no longer deny the suspicious increase of the presence of U.N. Peacekeepers within the ailing China whose citizenships were traced to that of East Asia. At the same time, evidences of East Asian weapons being found in the stashes of Rebel groups within China only added more fuel to the fire of suspicion that eventually led to the breaking point that is the Sino-East Asian war of 2077.
As East Asia's war with the Chinese bogged down into a trench warfare similar to that of the Russo-Ukrainian War of 2022/23, A leak within East Asia's intelligence agency revealed what everyone suspected: East Asia has been planning the war years in advance, with several member of the Pan-Asian Unity Party drawing several proposals on how to carve the People's Republic of China into several puppet states that would eventually be annexed into the Federation. One such plan here was drawn and proposed by a high-ranking PAU Member and revolutionary: Hideki Kabukimono.

If you're talking about Lake Chagan, its not the best example of Soviet stupidity but had they done the northern river reversal that most likely would've had excessively worse consequences.
