Thanks!
We each carry our own assumptions and preconceptions when we try to fill in a vague scenario. What areas I included did the Ottomans in your envisioning _not_ control?
I admit it has been a few months since I read the book but I wouldn't have had Ottoman rule so deep into Central Asia. Though I wouldn't have immediately given the Ottomans territory in the horn of africa I think I ultimately would have done so.

This started as a thought experiment about the United States being divided according to ancestry groups, and morphed into a full Soviet-style communist America.

The Union of Socialist American Republics (USAR) is constitutionally a federation of 13 Socialist American Republics (SARs), whose borders are based on ancestry groups. Most of the larger native American reservations have been reformed as Autonomous Socialist American Republics (ASARs), together with other smaller ancestry groups, and are subordinated to a SAR. Outside the ASARs, each SAR is divided into districts centred around, and named for, their most economically important city. Some SARs consist of a only single district. Each SAR also has its own flag, which is a modified version of the national flag with its spade, pickaxe and cog emblem surrounded by 13 stars for the 13 SARs plus one larger star for the union and communism itself.

The Empire of Manchukuo
The KMT almost got overthrown in the late 90s, and the CSR went through a Cultural Revolution(TM), becoming a nation similar to Vietnam.
Nice map! I have some questions, though: first, the OTL Cultural Revolution was the PRC's period of peak Maoist extremism - a violent ideological purge against capitalist and traditional elements within Chinese society; the TTL Cultural Revolution instead made the CSR "similar to Vietnam", which I assume means the exact opposite: abandonment of Maoist orthodoxy and wide-scale economic liberalisation. How in the world did that happen? And did the CSR end up changing its official name to PRC later on, like the Chinese Soviet Republic did in OTL?

Second, wouldn't the CSR find it impossible to adopt state capitalist reforms for the same reason OTL North Korea cannot - that its power would be immediately and fatally undermined by free flows of information with the far richer, capitalist RoC/South Korea?

And third, you said the KMT almost got overthrown in the late 90s, so is the RoC still an authoritarian state or illiberal democracy in 2021?

isot thing i made of my home state (minnesota) to a virgin earth
the tan is not united, it is a sea of bordergore and independent farmer towns that i don't want to draw out
the lines in the tan are the big states influence over the farming towns
if you have any questions or want to know what the states are, dont hesitate to ask

how are the native Americans dealing with it and do you have a base map for this

Still a WIP, but I've been making some progress on this and decided to post it anyways.

As a followup to my 1950s Punk Map, I'm doing a 1980s Punk Map (that's IMO much more interesting.) I was experimenting with some cyberpunk concepts, but couldn't find a way to do cyberpunk without going into absurdism, and my style trends towards plausibility. So I decided to go for a map that projected forward the trends of the 1980s, which became quasi-Cyberpunk by default!

In the Soviet Union, Viktor Grishin (an old Brezhnevist) came to power after Chernenko and (no pun intended) kept the party going. A China-style reform was not in the cards because the USSR did not have China's armies of cheap rural labor, and the military/agro-industrial complex was too entrenched to permit groundbreaking changes. So instead, in this timeline all you got were kludges and minor economic reforms to stave off the worst of the oil-price collapse.

The USSR eventually arrived at a new equilibrium where modest economic growth and minor trade occurs and forestalls complete chaos and penury. And the "Vozhds of the Proletariat" are a neverending parade of dying, demented fossils that aren't aware of much outside their hospital rooms, while faceless eminence grises duel for influence in the shadows.

The Warsaw Pact utterly collapsed, most states fell into chaos and ended up Finlandized, but Zhivkov (Bulgaria) and Jaruzelski (Poland) successfully maneuvered their polities into embracing the West on their own terms. The USSR's remaining allies are anti-American despotisms rather than champions of socialism.

Cahokia was sort of a unique case in which while it was a socio-religious center recent studies have sort of reinforced the idea that it was not a permanent major population center, rather it had a relatively small population most of the time but would swell by tens of thousands during certain major days long celebrations where there would basically be giant parties, so while it could be easily restarted using it's original purpose it's unlikely it would ever serve as an actual permanent seat of political or spiritual power.

Territorial aggrandizement is not the only way to wank. TTL's Japan never experienced the Lost Decade, and it advanced into being a very wealthy, high-tech, corporatized powerhouse.
True, true. But it doesn't have to be outright annexations, but there was a great deal of fear at the time of Japan breaking away from the US bloc for economic rather than ideological reasons, which would probably show as Japan having its own Asian bloc.

Oo, interesting, thanks for pointing that out!

Kingdom of Elysium | Reyaume d'Elysee

A nice, tropical vacation destination off the coast of Africa. Established by the Angevines in the early 2060s as their personal domain, this place is the place to go if all you wanna do is laze around and enjoy the weather, do some shady stuff, or engage in some activities some may deem... unfit for nobility.

Anyway, this place is the equivalent of Wales within the UK. The rulers are technically also kings/queens of Elysium, and the heir-apparent is Prince/Princess of Elysium, title currently held by no one. Liberia and Nigeria were turned into Areas, where most natives were dumped from the coasts. They're expected to be disbanded by the 2100s, The Vrystaat is settled by Boers, so yay! Cape Verde got eaten too, cause why not. Everyone loves an off-shore retreat to blow money on casinos and women. And that sums up the main role of this place, to be a tax haven for foreign royalty and rich persons, and to try to get the favour. Otherwise, hunting accident them.

Anyway, if this is cursed or not is up to you. But I do like how it turned out.

It is 1977 and Afro-Eurasia lays trampled under the European jackboot.

The German Empire

The restructuring of the world order after the Great War saw the German Empire assert itself as a truly global power. Though the transfer of a vast African empire of dense jungles and impenetrable climate was initially viewed as a strategic plunder, over the decades Mittelafrika has been shaped to the will of the German Reich. A scheme was devised to reshape central Africa into a new German heartland. This was the flooding of the Congo River Basin.

Though the German government continues to deny the deliberate displacement of the native African peoples as a central goal of the Congo Dam project, it nevertheless resulted in the destruction of what had been the homelands of thousands of millennia old cultures. Even native peoples outside of the river basin proper saw themselves expelled to several native “Homelands”. In recent years the German colonization of Mittelafrika has increasingly been labelled by human rights organizations as a genocide.

The Imperial Federation

The success of the Imperial Federation project saw the Anglos reach new heights of global dominance. The British Empire was transformed into a tiered hierarchy of Imperial control during the acts of imperial reorganization acts of the 1920s Member states of the Imperial Federation send representatives to the Imperial Parliament in London while maintaining power over local governance within their state.

With the exception of contributions to the Imperial Armed Forces and a Westminster veto, Imperial territories outside of the Federation have seen substantial increases in self-governance, with the Dominions possessing nearly unlimited legislative authority. The Imperial Protectorates, despite being De Jure autonomous, are totally governed by the Imperial System, as evidenced by the brutal reprisals carried out during the failed Persian Revolution of 1956.

The Partition of China

Despite thousands of years of Imperial Hegemony, the collapse of the Qing Empire in 1911 signaled the start of the collapse of native Han rule in East Asia. The Conference of Shanghai put an end to the decades of brutal civil war during the Warlord era, with China being divided up by the Great Powers. As the leading Power the Imperial Federation asserted its control over much of the Yangtze basin while Germany seized most of the Northeast. The secondary powers took the periphery scraps wherever they could.

The Beginning of the End for the European World System?

Though the European world order has been hailed by its proponents as the natural state of being for the world growing instability in the colonies have shaken the system to its core. The rising cost in blood and treasury of keeping the native population in check has fuelled calls for colonial downsizing by the electorates of European Powers'. Most of this sentiment is still focused on the increasing brutality of the fighting in China.

With the Ethiopian insurrection having broken the back of the Italian army in several key engagements the invincibility of the Europeans has been dispelled. With the Italian’s withdrawal from Ethiopia expected to be completed by the end of the Year it remains to be seen how much longer the boot of European oppression will lie heavy.

In recent years the German colonization of Mittelafrika has increasingly been labelled by human rights organizations as a genocide.
In recent years the quacking bird that waddles and swims and has duckings for children has been labeled a duck by animal watching organizations.

More seriously, it is good to see someone avoid both the "The Kaiserreich was pure and kind" myth and the "Imperial Germany was Nazi Germany with a better moustache" myth simultaneously.

Were Germany and Britain on the same side or did Britain adopt these reforms to recoup after defeat by the Germans?

With the Ethiopian insurrection having broken the back of the Italian army in several key engagements the invincibility of the Europeans has been dispelled.
Well, good to know this world might get at least a little better soon.
