Thank you very much!

I think you're right that France would have a hard time expanding into the Netherlands, but it's certainly possible as the French captured the Austrian Netherlands in OTL during the War of the Austrian Succession.
I am not saying that France will never be able to invade the Austrian Netherlands. But to do so at that time was risky, as the French population could no longer bear the tax burden.
But after a more or less long period of peace it would be possible (like the analogy of the War of the Austrian Succession or something else).

Thank you for the nitpick. I suppose I could have made Brandenburg more of a 'Prussian grey' to differentiate it from Austria. Hanover is still in personal union with England but Parliament doesn't like it because it brings too much involvement with the continent. The Industrial Revolution still starts in Britain, though will spread to France soon.
To continue the nitpicking (since the rest is already very good 😉 ) there are terms on the map that are not in French, or old French terms that I don't know. From what I have noticed there are:
-Küev, in French it is written Kiev.
-Adrinople, it seems to lack the "n" to make Andrinople.
-Lithuanie, in French you don't put the "h" and it gives Lituanie.
There may be others that I haven't seen.
Then, as I say, maybe it's old terms I don't know, or maybe you've had fun making alternative spellings.
And I'll say it again, but it's just nitpicking.

On the other hand I am disappointed, you are HREphobic! You have only represented the states of the prince-electors and have amalgamated and stigmatised all the small German states! 🤪

The map took me much longer than I should have but I don't know exactly how long I worked on it. I started it in November 2019 XD and sometimes many weeks and months pass without any work done on the map. I used Inkscape for everything except the terrain texture, which was done in Gimp.
It may have taken a long time, but the result lives up to expectations.
I would have to try GIMP and Inkscape but I have difficulty leaving Paint, despite its many flaws I had trouble changing software.

paint.net? It's not too alien to MS Paint users, but it's got a lot more features, including anti-aliased lines and fill (not that you'll need those on a map), and layering.

If you know about Fallout lore, you should know about the Sino-American war, y'know, the war that destroyed the world and created the wasteland?, yeah the usual stuff.

But, what if, it didn't have to end this way?

What if one side did actually win over the other? (in this case America)

Hope you enjoy.

In 2060, as the last fuel reserves went dry, traffic on the streets died as fuel became too valuable to waste on automobiles. The automotive industry desperately tried to come up with a solution to the problem, but electric and early fusion cars were too little, too late to help solve the growing needs of society.

The fuel shortages were further emphasized following the collapse of the European Commonwealth and the Middle East descending to anarchy following a limited nuclear exchange. The Third Red Scare would unfold as a response to the increased hostility of the People's Republic of China and its operations on American soil.

As the economy of the communist state was dependent to a much greater degree on fossil fuels than that of the U.S., China found itself on the brink of collapse by spring of 2066, with oil fields finally drying up just about everywhere. With the United States unwilling to export its own reserves of crude oil, China had become more aggressive in its negotiations. It would seem as though, a war with China was inevitable.

Bu then, it happened. China launched an invasion of Alaska to seize its oil reserves in the winter of 2066. This daring military operation marked the beginning of the Sino-American War.,

Under the command of General Zihao Jingwei, Chinese forces landed in Alaska with a large parachute assault. Carried out in winter, the landing allowed the Chinese to usurp control of Alaska's oil pipeline, derricks, and reserves, and secure the flow of resources to the homeland, propping up its economy.

Although at first, the American military retreats all fronts as the Chinese gamble pays off, however they face heavy resistance from American partisans that fiercely oppose the occupation by Chinese forces, although they are almost wiped out in a few years, this slows down the Chinese advance enough to allow the Americans to fully regroup at a better position further into Alaska.

Later on, unable to sustain the war effort without establishing safe supply routes on land, away from the Chinese Navy, the United States pressures the Canadian Commonwealth into granting military access on land and its airspace. When Ottawa yields, despite initial resistance, the stage is set for the subsequent occupation and annexation of the Commonwealth ten years later.

With the pressure for a functional suit of power armor greater than ever, the United States military and its contractors created the first model of power armor using available technologies. Designated T-45, it was a crude construction. However, its ability to wield heavy weapons with ease greatly increased the firepower and mobility of American troops, allowing them to counter Chinese tanks and infantry.

After the first suits are deployed in January 2067, China rushes to create its own versions but is unable to come up with a counter. The crude nature of the armor allows for slowing the advance. The situation eventually devolves into a stalemate. The situation devolves into a stalemate rapidly.

One of the turning points of the War came in 2070, as despite claims of fighting a defensive war, American infantry and mechanized divisions landed in Shantou via the Philippines as the beginning of a counter-invasion of Chinese mainland. The American economy strained as American soldiers, Marines, sailors, and airmen fought a war on three fronts: Canada, Alaska, and mainland China. Neither side was willing to yield, despite several years of constant warfare. The situation there devolved into another stalemate, however, the hold of balance in Alaska was finally being won by the Americans, as the Chinese unexpectedly began pulling their forces en masse out to counter the invasion and increasing unrest at home.

In a one final offensive the Americans finally pushed the Chinese out of Alaska in February of 2072. Crowds in major cities across the United States triumphantly celebrated. Though, the war would stretch out for longer and was far from over, yet. The opposite was true for China, as anti-war riots sprung up throughout the country, the government would crack down on these and drag the war for longer, unsurprisingly causing more anti-war riots and unrest, who could've guessed?, especially when the U.S. Marines rapidly overran Shanghai and many other port cities.

It seems as though, the people has lost faith in chairman Wei Cheng, a man who was once greatly loved by the people and respected within the party. Many of his own comrades began crafting a plot to assassinate him to end the war. And then it did really happened, on August 2073, Wei Cheng was found dead in his office, assassinated via polonium poisoning. Fu Xiaodan and his followers would later coup the governement and later claim that he would be the one to finally put an end to god-forsaken war. This also had the unexpected effect of demoralizing the PLA who were already quite exhausted at fighting the Americans(Many were still highly loyal to Cheng), allowing American forces to push even deeper.

In a desperate gamble to end this madness, shortly after, Zou Xin, and many who were still loyal to Chairman Cheng, couped Xiaodan's government and claim that the "rightful government" has returned, this ultimately led to a civil war between those loyal to Xiaodan and Xin. The Americans were quite surprised to hear that China had officially snapped. By this time, any remaining sense of authority was shattered across the country as separatists began to spring up in certain areas like Mongolia, Tibet and Xinjiang, taking advantage of the situation.

Ultimately, the situation deteriorated so much and grew too far out of hand, that it actually ended the brief civil war as China descended to warlordism, once again. Workers striking in Sichuan, radicalized nationalists on horses in Mongolia, Islamists in Xinjiang/East Turkestan, radical buddhists in Tibet/U-Tsang, federalists in Yunnan, American-backed democrats in Guandong, and many, many more.

Trying to survive and keep Cheng's vision alive, Xin and his loyalists evacuated to the northwest and officially re-declared the People's Republic of China, this China is indeed recognized as the legitimate successor to the late PRC. Meanwhile, Xiaodan and his followers relocated just south of Xin's clique, ever since, they dropped the former Neo-Maoist ideology and has since adopted classical Marxism as a middle finger to Xin loyalists, who never dropped Neo-Maoism.

The rest of China descended to their own little squabbling cliques.

By the time 2075 arrived, the mighty People's Republic of China that once stood, was no more. A new holiday for Americans would be made and later come to be known as VC (short for Victory in China) day during this time, while major American cities were drowned with sounds of triumph and victory, now, dozens in China die due to war or starvation caused by the utter chaos in China.

After the 1968 nuclear war, Europe and North America was left devastated. The mas exodus that resulted afterwards was the largest movement of people in history as the world population shifted southwards. The map bellow is used in History text books to show major organised evacuations. South Korea while not badly hit by nuclear bombs was invaded by North Korea, creating another exodus.
1968-69 migration map arrows final.png

The most popular destinations were Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, and Australia. these countries became dominant powers in the post nuclear world. Spain and Italy unofficially closed their boarders, often helping organise transport to South America, using the rational of radioactive fallout being worse in the Northern Hemisphere. The Blockage of the Suez Canal also resulted in longer journeys for those heading to the east from Europe.

This is really great and I love it greatly.

However, I still feel like America will kill itself in a second civil war/second Revolution as just winning doesn't really solve anything else. If anything, the Chinese will still have the last laugh at the USA. And then the Great War happens anyhow.

Could you do a version of the PRC winning and crushing the USA?

Europe on the brink of WW1 in my TL, A New World Wreathed in Freedom. It is a strangely convergent Europe on the verge of a curiously familiar world war primarily for convenience's sake, since the POD and TL is in Argentina in 1810, and a fully fleshed Europe with all the possible butterflies that a POD with Napoleon still at his peak is a TL all on its own if I really followed all the infinitely expanding butterflies over the subsequent century.

And I'll say it again, but it's just nitpicking.
Lithuanie was basically a derived from Lituania, which was the name of Lithuania in French before the 16th century, and regained popularity in the early 19th century.

The Canadian exodus to South Africa seems to start somewhere in the Sargasso Sea. I know Canada has secret mutant walrus commando brigades, but did they use them for the exodus?

I am not saying that France will never be able to invade the Austrian Netherlands. But to do so at that time was risky, as the French population could no longer bear the tax burden.
But after a more or less long period of peace it would be possible (like the analogy of the War of the Austrian Succession or something else).
Interesting. I wonder if it would be more plausible if Milan was captured in the war rather than the Austrian Netherlands. Then in the Austrian Succession, the Netherlands was captured and exchanged for Milan during the peace.

Thanks. Gimp and Inkscape takes some time to learn, but it gets easier with time as you discover new things making the maps.

E M I R A T E of 'A Y S L A N D A
The islamization of Iceland began in 1634, with the return of Olaf Hreiðmarsson. An Icelandic fisherman taken prisoner by Barbary pirates in the Turkish Abductions of 1627, he was shipped to Algiers were he served as a slave. During his servitude, Olaf converted to Islam and adopted the name of Abu Mohammad al-Omar, and became a student of the Quran. Claiming to have received a vision from Allah, he returned to Iceland and began preaching Islam among its inhabitants.

Immediately there was a split between the Christian majority and al-Omar's growing sect of followers. His pro-independence teachings attracted many Icelanders: he attacked the abuses and burdens imposed by the King of Denmark, and the lack of protection they received in exchange. This nationalist thought worried the traditional ecclesiastical elite. The bishops of Skálholt and Hólar, which had achieved considerable influence and wealth, jointly opposed al-Omar and declared him a heretic. In May 1635 began the Icelandic War of Religion, between al-Omar's Muslim supporters and the Christian establishment.

It wasn't long before news reached Copenhagen that an Islamic insurrection had arisen in Iceland. Long considered an unimportant backwater of his vast domains, the King of Denmark paid little importance, seeing no immediate danger. Therefore he sent no reinforcements in support of the Christians. Another important factor was al-Omar's support for ending the Danish monopoly over Icelandic trade; this piqued the interest of the English, who had been excluded from Iceland's markets in the 14th century. Dutch and French merchants, who traded in Iceland illegally, also gave aid to al-Omar. Another important event came when the Althing, Iceland's traditional legislature, convened in the Muslim-held town of Akranes and proclaimed its support for al-Omar. The Althing issued the Charter of Akranes, declaring Iceland's independence and rejecting Danish overlordship.

This act of sedition, coupled with the disruption of Danish economic exclusivity and the sacking of Skálholt in the autumn of 1635 convinced the Danes to act. By then, the Muslims had taken over large portions of Iceland, and were receiving funding by foreign mercantile elements. When 3,000 Danish soldiers landed at Grindavík in early 1636, they met some 2,100 well-armed, motivated Muslim forces holding an entrenched position amidst the rocks.

The Battle of Grindavík was a pivotal moment in Icelandic history. The Danes suffered a crushing defeat, losing some 953 men before being surrounded and surrendering. Al-Omar held them prisoner and demanded a ransom. Christian IV of Denmark countered by sending 10,000 men, reinforced by 1,000 top-class Swiss mercenaries, in July 1636. This colossal force of ships and soldiers wouldn't make it to Iceland: an Ottoman Turkish fleet stood in the way, threatening a major war. A wise man, Christian IV wouldn't dare precipitating Denmark into a destructive conflict with the Turks: his kingdom was still embroiled in the Thirty Years' War, and there was little appetite for even more bloodshed. Christian IV agreed to negotiate.

The Treaty of Reykjavik, signed on 23 September 1637, ended the Icelandic War of Religion. It secured the release of over 800 Christian clerics, plus the Danish prisoners, and the payment of indemnities to Denmark. In exchange, Christian IV recognized Iceland as a separate realm, ended the Danish monopoly over its trade, and dropped any claims of lordship over the territory. The Emirate of Iceland was established, and al-Omar was renamed Sheikh Hassid bin Omar Al Omar.

Conflicts between Muslims and Christians would endure for centuries. It wasn't until the 1800's that Islam constituted the majority religion, following mass migration to Norway and Denmark and the systematic destruction of the Christianity. This fighting decimated the Icelandic population and crippled diplomatic ties with the rest of Europe, leading to long-lasting underdevelopment. A large Christian Icelandic diaspora still exists in Europe and elsewhere.

In modern times, Iceland has undergone rapid modernization. Despite being still being generally impoverished by European standards, population growth and greater commercial ties with other nation has boosted its economic development. In 2020, Iceland was the fastest-growing economy in the world for the third year in a row. Politically, Iceland remains controlled by the House of Al Omar, the longest-reigning royal house in the Islamic world. However, democratic institutions are healthy and elections are carried regularly for the Althing, which shares power with the Emir. Diplomatic ties are strong with every Muslim state: its separation from the Middle East has made it an excellent mediator in conflicts, and so Iceland remains in friendly terms with both Iran and Arabia. It was also the first Muslim country to recognize the State of Israel, and relations remain good.

Hello, I have never posted here before so I don't really know how this works. But I wonder if anyone would want to work on a map like QBAM but with a different projection. I am thinking equirectangular because then we can make sure it matches up with some other maps, and it uses all of the pixel space. Maybe make it around 5000x10000 so its around 2x as big as QBAM, but not as big as MBAM?

(Mods remove if I am doing it in the wrong place)

There is 8K-BAM which is in 4096*8192 IIRC. It's the one I tend to use these days.
