Polska, why...A map made using HOI4 with BSR mod. Basically the premise is a nerfed WAllies, there is a Mediterranean Campaign before TTL postponed Barbarossa and Stalin dies of a stroke 8 years prior. Also I imagine McCarthy might actually become president since the WARPAC arrived until the River Meuse and Italy got a better deal. I see that in many TLs the 3rd world isn't a big focus or does worse, but I thought : ok what would happen if they get the short end of the stick ? It's an Anglo-German-American.
I wanted them to keep at least Vilnius and Lviv... the Vilnius border I don't know how it could look better...Polska, why...
Well I guess its correct, ethnicaly (mostly)I wanted them to keep at least Vilnius and Lviv... the Vilnius border I don't know how it could look better...

Vindiciae Contra Tyrannos: A Protestant, Republican France
Partially inspired by Augenis’ wonderful TL, The Silver Knight, as well as other timelines with a Protestant France, like A More Personal Union, and OTL’s Dutch Wars of Independence. Many thanks for the inspiration! I’m an essential amateur on 15th century European history, so pardon me if this scenario sounds inaccurate or unrealistic. I’m also contemplating fleshing this out into a fully fledged TL, so criticism of the premise itself and suggestions are highly encouraged.
TLDR: The English are victorious during the Hundreds Year War, but soon fall to political instability and general incompetence. An alternate reformation begins in the south of France, which soon evolves into a nationalistic French rebellion against the English. The French rebels declare a republic and prop up the Dutch rebellion, allowing for the alt-Dutch Republic (Belgium) to recover the whole of the low countries. Although issues about language, religious tolerance, and governance threatened to tear the newborn republics apart, fierce proto-nationalism and astounding victories allow the republics to survive the onslaught. The year is now 1601, and the two republics are experiencing explosive economic and political growth similar to OTL’s Dutch Golden Age. However, the Habsburgs, flush with New World riches, and the English, hungry for revenge, are preparing for war. It is only a matter of time when Europe will go to war again- one which will decide the fate of human history.
Henry VI’s upbringing is different, making him a more assertive and competent king. After France fell to civil war in 1446, the English swept Paris and exterminated the Capet royal line. Henry VI is crowned King, and the French and English crowns are united. Nevertheless, A different upbringing still fails to prevent Henry’s mental illness, resulting in turmoil for dual monarchy. After a vicious alternate War of the Roses, the unpopular House of York wins. Over the resulting decades, English control of France becomes more and more tenuous as England convulses from political instability.
As the decades pass, European history shifts in ways both familiar and distinctly different from our timeline. Nevertheless, history is changed enough that the Protestant Reformation takes a different character, and begins in a different place.
In the early 1540s, Theodore Beza, who in our timeline was a prominent reformist thinker but was largely overshadowed by John Calvin, began preaching against the Catholic Church and the English. His message finds fertile ground in Occitania , a region already known for birthing two insurgent sects, the Cathars and the proto-Protestant Waldensians. Beza is condemned by the Anglo-French Inquisition and declared an outlaw, but he is sheltered by the Count of Limoux , Islo Trencavel. The Trencavels, who were a formerly powerful noble family before being disgraced due their defence of their Cathar subjects during the Cathar crusade, once again took on the Catholic Church- but this time, they would enjoy decidedly more success.
Under Trencavel’s protection, Beza’s writing spreads via the printing press like wildfire all over France. Beza calls for the overthrow of the corrupt Catholic Church ,their partners in villianary the English, and the establishment of an independent French state. The English King, Richard VI, senses disaster and moves quickly to clamp down on the Trencavels, but high lords, such as the Duke of Limousin, Amanieu d'Albret, burghers and peasants alike have joined a general rebellion against English rule. The southern rebels meet at Montpellier and declare a “League of Occitania”, intent on declaring independence. In the north, a rebellion instigated by a charismatic lawyer turned revolutionary, François Hotman, captures multiple cities and lays siege to Paris.
At the request of the English king, the Pope excommunicates the entirety of France in 1550 for rebelling against their god-given overlords. This is the last straw for most Frenchmen, and at a synod at Avignon, a French Reformed Church is established. Although against the majority of Catholic Europe and vastly outmatched by the English armies, the French under the leadership of Amanieu d'Albret in the South and François de Beauvais in the North achieve astounding victories by adopting a system similar to OTL’s Dutch system, with highly disciplined permanent units which could continuously fire their weapons by cycling ranks. Emboldened by French successes, the Dutch revolt in 1554, much like OTL, led by William the Silent. Unlike OTL however, the French, by now having linked the northern and southern rebellions, surged into the Low Countries to help their religious brethren. After years of destructive war, and massacres from both sides, the cause of Reform finally wins in France and the Low Countries. By 1557, France and the Low Countries were controlled completely by Reformist rebels, save for an intensely fortified strip of coast in Normandy controlled by the English and manned by legions of dispossessed, furious Catholic loyalists.
Almost immediately, questions on the nature of the new nations cropped up. For a while, the rebels were intent on offering the crown of France and/or the Low Countries to any willing European prince, but after years of no takers, the rebels agreed to the formation of two republics, if only by necessity. Flags were made for the two newborn republics: the Dutch, who have decided to name their republic, Belgium, adopted OTL’s orange-white-blue tricolor, while France modified an old royalist flag, removing the royal arms and defacing it with the Occitan cross, the Fleur de Lys (representing north and south France), the Sacred Heart (representing the Chrisitan faith), and the ancient Oriflamme banner (representing the spirit of national resistance against the English). (Click here to see the flag)
Both the Belgian and French Republics were to be loose federations of provinces united by a common currency, defence and legislature. Nevertheless, like the OTL Dutch Republic, significant differences in both autonomy and culture existed. In France, the former Occitanian league (now the Province of Occitania), wields significant political and cultural autonomy, as well as being the beating heart of the reformation. The elaborate cathedral art of Southern France in OTL are absent, their frescos and carvings being destroyed in waves of iconoclasm by the reformists. The north is more catholic, has less political power, but is more tolerant and mercantile. France, although an oligarchy, is in general more tolerant, mercantile, less feudal, and more diverse than its OTL counterpart. Nevertheless like its OTL counterpart, it is highly nationalistic, hates England, and lionizes heroes such as Jeanne d’Arc, although unfamiliar names such as Amanieu d'Albret and Islo Trencavel are similarly honored.
The Year is now 1601. Although the majority of Europe has tried repeatedly to end the two Reformist republics- they have insofar failed. The Reformation, unlike OTL, has much less spread in Germany and Scandinavia, and is completely absent from England, which is still stewing over the loss of France. However, Scotland is firmly in the Reformist camp, and so is Ireland. Both Republics are experiencing a golden age of incredible economic and cultural growth, as the free flow of ideas benefits commerce and the arts. Nevertheless, the Reformist Republics are experiencing significant internal turmoil, over the treatment of nonconformist Protestants, Catholics, centralization, and nationalist stirrings from ethnic minorities. Some in the two republics believe that the only way to mend the schism is through a unifying war against their shared external enemies. Similarly, the Catholic powers of England and the Hapsburg Empire think that perhaps this will finally be the time when the two heretic states will finally be destroyed. One thing is certain: Europe is barreling towards war- one which will decide the course of human history.
