Jefferson (JF) was formed in 1854 from the northwestern part of the California Republic, after the American-Mexican war.
Jefferson is often called as "the Texas of the Pacific coast", because its inhabitants are similar guns-loving and JF is a very, very conservative state. Also it is the US state with the highest rate of whites. The state is known as a "safe state" for the Republicans. There are many partnerships between Jeffersonian and Texan cities (Twinned cities), communities and also strong relationships between many families from both states.
Besides negative headlines about the big racism problem, the Jefferson state is known for the Lassen Peak and Mount Shasta - two volcanoes of the Cascade Range, the Humboldt University - an elite-university in Eureka, the Redwood National and State Park and the second biggest car industry of the United States in and around Redding.
On August 1st, 2018, the city of Redding had a population of 711.931, being the state's capital and largest city. Since the early 1940s, the city has grown to an important location of the car industry. At the same time, refugees from Poland and Czechoslovakia who fled from Nazi Germany arrived and settled here. After the end of World War II, many new people came here from the newly Soviet-controlled countries in Europe. Also a handful of Japanese, Koreans, Chinese and Vietnamese settled here during the next decades.
In the 19th century, Arpad City has been founded by seventeen Hungarian families. Being Jefferson's second largest city, it still has a high percentage of Hungarian-rooted people. The city is one of the most important centres of Hungarian culture in the United States. In the early 1920s, oil were found near the city and Arpad City began to grow fastly. Since the late 1970s, Arpad City is twinned with Debrecen - a very important and similar populated city in Hungary. The Hungarian-rooted community is very proud about that. Arpad City is the home of some of the most famous and creative Hard Rock- and Heavy Metal-musicians, many of them are especially very famous in the underground scene. Attila is an Arpad City-based communication electronics-brand, famous for its cell phones, smart phones and tablets. The Attila products are very famous worldwide for its high quality, ease of use and relatively low price at the same time. Arpad City is nicknamed "The Hussar City".
The City of Bismarck in the state's north, close to the border to Oregon, have been founded by mostly German and a handful of Dutch settlers in the early 1890s. The place in and around the city has become a little "hotspot" for settlers of Sorbian, Polish, Czech and Latvian origin as well during the next decades until the 1930s, but the City kept being relatively small (under 10.000 inhabitants) until 1939. In 1940, two valuable things have been found near Bismarck: Oil and copper. Since then, the population of the city grew quiet rapidly. New settlers came from all across the American pacific coast, from the Midwest and smaller numbers from Texas, as well as new settlers from Europe - this time from Ireland, Austria, Yugoslavia and (southern) Italy mostly. Until today, Bismarck pumps up oil and provides the United States with copper. In more recent times, the city of Bismarck originated some of the most talented and famous video-game developers and designers.
Although being an university-city, Eureka does not have such a high population. But it has a quiet large community of people with Russian, Ukrainian and Armenian roots, descendants of Soviet civilians who fled from the Stalin-terror in the 1930s and settled here. Boyar's Break, a brand that is famous for its ice cream, soft drinks and sweet snacks, is located in Eureka. The brand is known and famous in the entire United States, but especially in its home, in Jefferson.
Today, most of the population of Jefferson has German, Polish, Hungarian, English and Irish roots.

You are right on with the scenario. The Central Powers lost the Ottomans as an ally over a non-descript conflict of interest in the Caucasus (or the status of Crimea?) but gained Ukraine as a third major partner.
