Either A-1 or B-2, I'd say. Status quo is rarely a good idea for story-telling purposes, so that one's out. The others all have very big countries features, and more diversity-of-settings is probably a smarter move. In that regard, A-1 is definitely the best option. It's the most versatile. B-2 is almost as effective, and his the one advantage that it doesn't give California to the one country that's already quite big. in all other regards, A-1 is better.
I second this
@Valdore Javorsky
In A1 and B2, what is the Western Federation, and what does it stand for? What's the weird autonomous/territorial blob in the eastern half of the country?
A1 is probably the best for interesting story dynamics, and better than B1 for the amount of people being divided and forming new states, so those states may have more strength to get up to whacky shenanigans
B-1.

We hang em by a sour apple tree!

Thanks for the feedback! As for the large nations, I didn't have much against it especially since the original idea for changing up america was changing up the seemingly imploded political landscape for a bigger country that could work as a (at least by not being part of the EECC) counterweight against the Vierbund.
Many variations of the shown maps are also i nmy head, like possibly a combination of A2 and B2 (The Native American State being established on canada's cost, but the USA somehow turning the curve and surpassing the iminent collapse. or a combination of B1 and B2 with the same basic idea just with the CSA being stomped and so on...
As said, I'm also open to variations or variation proposals, but these give me a basic idea what the AH community thinks ^^

How interesting. What makes this stand out the most is the fact the Germans are all dead and people discovered the corpse of the last remnants of the Third Reich.

"Oh noes, it's him again! When will he finally stop working on his TL for eternity!"
I won't

(jk)

Anyways, yes it's me again!
In the current version of my well-known WIP fantasy/semi-arcanepunk timeline "Rise of the Night" (formerly known under its project name 'Nightrise'), The order in pre-war America (A-0) is broken up after both the Republic of Britain in-exile and the United States enter the "Great Pacific War" (a war comparable to WW2 in tech and intensity) and find themselves on the losing side, causing them to collapse a few years after the war ends, partially because of a large Irish refugee crisis (A-1).
However, I've been thinking about the role of the American Continent again lately and had some different concepts and ideas on which I struggle to decide, because I all find them interesting. What do you think? Is the current concept the best, or do you prefer a different one?
I've thought about the importance of the American Continent within my RotN timeline, as it, together with the Indian Union, would serve as a counterweight against the Cultural-Economic Goliath of the Vierbund (Danubia-Russia-China-Japan) military, political and economic alliance.

In order to make my concepts a bit more graphically understandable and interesting, I decided to portray them in a way slightly inspired by the classic 9/12 countries meme format. The Text in the yellow box each describes the rough idea that comes with the Scenario, like "Uncle Sam lives" -> United States survive.
Please be reminded that I'm essentially asking for advice here, and am not simply presenting, so you are obviously free to give me a completely different idea based on the pre-setting, possibly combining several scenarios.

Then, let's start!

The A-set

B-set

C-set

So what do you think? Which Scenario (excluding A-0, obviously) is the best in your opinion? Do you have a proposal for a completely different outcome? What is your opinion on the current scenario (A-1)? :)
Not sure what it is, but I enjoy C2.

I've decided to remade my Alt-Strangereal Earth map using MrImperatorRoma's basemap (MrImperatorRoma, if you reading this post, I removed the watermark on the bottom right corner. Is that alright? If not, then I'll be happy to put it back.)
AltStrangereal_Detailed.png

The Lore still mostly the same as the previous version of this map I posted here before except that most of Not!Indochina countries were now located on the south of Verusa and east of Clavis. And FATO is now stands for "Federated Autonomous Territory of Ostende", and is this world's equivalent to Israel.

EDIT: Here's the updated lore notes for my Alt-Strangereal Earth

1. People's Republic of Verusa and Republic of Gansu are this world counterpart of PRC and Taiwan/ROC respectively with RoG being an anti-communist refugee fled to the Asetralian continent after losing a civil war in Verusa. The PRV also includes the former territory of Asadal in which the anti-communist Asadalese fled from Verusa after their former homeland fell to the pro-PRV/Yuktobanian revolution and later joined the PRV.
2. Commonwealth of Asetralia is this world's counterpart of Australia (I know some fans view Aurelia as such but I'd like to see them as a hybrid of Australia/Argentina while Asetralia is 100% Australia expy complete with the accent and weird faunas that already were in Asetralian continent) and is the most powerful military and economy in the region.
3. State of Wania is the Strangereal counterpart of Japan and the homeland of the legendary F3 Shinden II Multirole Jet. Once an aggressive genocidal Empire in the early 20th century, the country is now known for its, adherent pacifism, technological innovation, and its contribution toward global pop-culture (notable, Anime). Also, the Wanian are not native to the continent and instead originated from an island chains east of Usea.
4. Republic of Clavinesia is a country similar to our world's Indonesia, because I can and feel like Indonesia is still underrepresented in most pop-culture media. Clavinesia is the regional powerhouse and the bridge that connect Usea and Asetralia. They sometimes have a rivalry with the United Sultanate of Lansuka which is this world counterpart of Malaysia, and currently is developing a partnership with Isabelline (a Philippines expy). Other powers in the region including Kingdom of Mongkut (Thailand expy), and Houndah (Cambodia expy)
5. In South Osea, United Atlanican States is a country plagued by corruption and seemingly endless and terrible drug war. Imagine Mexico combined with Pablo Escobar-era Colombia times five. Osean Federation intervened in the country four times before decided to build a wall on their southern border to prevent more drug traffickers entering the country and enable a strict immigration policy on Atlanicans. Meanwhile, Republic of Lusital is an expy/hybrid of Portugal and Brazil and meant to be a frenemy for Sapin. Both Sapinian and Lusitalian ancestors were originated from Europan peninsula in Verusa before fleeing to Osea.
6. Union of Sotoa is the regional power in the Sotoan subcontinent and the face of the Progressive Muslim country, promoting modernity and cultural diversity of the region as well as having a formidable military, backed with their own oil fields. Meanwhile, Rashedi Tamudia, being a region where Islam is originated, is a repressive theocratic state that followed Sharia Law strictly and seen as one of the worst human right offender by some, but most turn a blind eye as the House of Rashed are willing to sell their oil to everyone and getting rich from it.
7. Republic of South Sotoa is an expy of South Africa and Belgian Congo, with a slight dash of Draka in the past. Nowadays, the Apartheid society were gone but the tension between native Sotoan and the Osean colonizer seems to be cold at best.
8. In the region/landmass of Acebula in the south of Sotoa, is where the native Sotoan ruled and completely kicked their colonizer from their homeland decades ago. Kingdom of Jalakanda is the most advanced and prosperous nation in the area, having a military that scares even the once pro-Apartheid South Sotoa. Her rival, the ever radical, less prosperous, and somewhat xenophobic State of Dungari, keeps violating the airspace on daily basis and both nations were prone to border skirmish every 10-15 years. United Tribes of Dashoto often intervene into the affair and urges the two nation to stand down for many many times.
9. Republic of Clavis is the only major non-communist power in mainland Verusa and still resist the influence of their northern neighbors with strong tradition and military. But Clavis also suffers from overpopulation and poor living condition in most of their cities. Clavis is also known to be the place where Hinduism and Buddhism is originated.
10. Islamic Republic of West Clavis seceded from the mainland Clavis over religious and political crisis some 40 years ago. Today, West Clavis served as an ally to Verusa, just to piss off the Mainlanders.
11. The Commune of Greater Annam is an union of relatively weak, politically-socialist countries that was formed to counter the growing power of People's Republic of Verusa. Once was a communist power in the continent under the Yuktobanian sphere following the Yuktobanian-Verusan split in the 60s, nowadays the Greater Annam adopted capitalist system to keep themselves afloat.
12. The Federated Autonomous Territory of Ostende is a union of independent Jewish states of various nations from east of Belka, to the west of Nordland, to the north of Gebet. Today, FATO is a significant power and known to be a close ally to the Osean Federation, with the latter keep investing in FATO's military to "keep Belka in check".

That's the irony of it all. The most interesting thing you could find is the UFO's and rockets at Neu Landsberg, and the most worrying is anything that might still be at Himmler's little colony with all those WMD's.

What's up folks. Got a finished map here.

Write up below, as a heads up it is a bit long.
This idea started life with the question of "What if South Africa and Yugoslavia switched fates in the 1990s?" and kind of went all over from there.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
POD: 1945
The Western Allies successfully secure all of Austria in 1945, which leads to the country joining NATO and being fully involved in the Western Bloc during the first Cold War. From there, history progresses similarly, but nonetheless differently, to the OTL Cold War. Eventually, by 2020, the world is embroiled in a Second Cold War, not unlike the tense relations we are seeing today involving the United States, China, Europe, and Russia.
The ideologies, however are muddied. The US and its allies parrot the 'Freedom, Prosperity, and Democracy' line, though there is something about it now that seems to ring hollow. A history of supporting dictatorships and predatory multinationals tends to do that.
For Russia, China, Egypt, and Indonesia, all have more to gain from challenging the US-dominated world order than following it. Russia demands the US respect the sovereignty of nations while helping its puppets put down popular protests in the Baltic States and Romania. China calls American 'prosperity' a joke while half the population endures extreme poverty. Egypt calls for pan-Arabism and pan-Islamism, but only if the Arab Socialists are in charge.
It's a war waged by hypocrites, and the only thing that makes it somewhat tolerable is neither side has nuked each other. Yet.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAJOR PLAYERS
The United States is whiter and more conservative than OTL, but with similar problems. Nixon is elected president from 1960-1964, and actually does quite a bit of good with Civil Rights reform. Race relations ITTL are more like they were in the 1980s, however, and social integration of black people remains a serious moral and social crisis in the country. The Drug War never happens, and drug use is considered a health issue instead of a crime problem. Immigration reform and some final civil rights legislation pertaining to women occurs in the 1970s. The immigration reform is more about re-balancing quotas for Europeans and Latin Americans to make them fairer, and a lot of visas are made available for skilled labor. Immigration isn't as hot of topic in the year 2020 ITTL. Economically, most outsourcing goes to Mexico and hasn't been as drastic. Foreign policy-wise, Americans are waking up to Cold War II cranky about having to fight for hegemony again. Lots of isolationism, even if the elites demand more defense spending and acceptance of the possibility of foreign wars.

The Soviet Union's collapse in 1993 came as a product of compounding economic and political problems in the USSR. However, unlike OTL, the Russian elite designed their institutions to create a stronger Russian military and economy. This prevents the demographic problems of OTL Russia from manifesting as badly as they have today. These reforms and their aftermath have been termed 'The Russian Miracle' by observers. Chechens still fight for independence, but geopolitically Russia is surrounded by a network of friendly and puppet states which are called the Russian Shield, as they provide a layer of protection from direct invasion. Keeping those states friendly is incredibly important for the Russians.

Western Europe is united under many trade and other agreements like OTL, but nothing like the EU exists. Concerns from Britain and France over Germany's reunification seem to have been placated, in the meantime, by how much money reunification has cost and how much leftist violence re-incorporating the DDR caused. The Germans are conservative and keep their tanks ready to march on Moscow. One of the post-Soviet agreements made was that NATO wouldn't expand at all. So Poland, Hungary, Czechia, and Slovakia formed the Visegrad Group, which may as well be NATO Jr., complete with adoption of almost all NATO Standardization Agreements and an anti-Russian position for foreign policy. Demographic problems are starting to hit Western Europe, however, and the governments of most countries have been pushing for citizens to have more children.

China is much poorer than OTL, but has begun to see some modernization from foreign investment. The country's leaders live better lives than most of the populace, but the gap between the elite and the masses is not as wide as it is between today's western Chinese farmers and coastal Chinese urbanites. The main thrust of China's leadership planning is 'sustained development' to produce home-grown industries and an economy that doesn't destroy the country's environment. This policy is helped by the One Child Policy equivalent, which started in 1980, which will help reduce the country's population to stabler levels in the future.

India joined up with the Americans because of Pakistan switching to China as its patron. Originally a leader of the Non-Aligned Movement equivalent in Cold War I, the nuclearization of the two major powers on the Indian Subcontinent caused the Indians to re-examine their alliances and priorities. Border disputes with China and a less supportive Russia caused the Indians to change patrons, though they remain the odd man out in American geopolitical considerations as they tend to take a more independent view of foreign policy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MINOR PLAYERS
Yugoslavia does manage to assert its geopolitical independence under Tito, but when he finally dies the country doesn't go through 15-20 years of ugly ethnic politicking. Macedonia and Slovenia do get independence after plebiscites, but the Serbo-Croatian core does remain unified.

Korea and Vietnam are both unified and brought into the Western and Eastern camp respectively, and neither the Soviet Union nor the United States get involved in their famous quagmires (Vietnam for the US, Afghanistan for the USSR). However, South East Asia becomes a site of Communist unrest, leading to the fall of Laos and Cambodia and a lot of violence in Thailand.

Indonesia invades North Borneo and Brunei during the 1960s under Sukarno. Think of Sukarno as a Tito-type of leader: he is socialist but not quite in the Soviet camp, but with a lot more anti-Western policies and diplomatic conflicts.
Israel, much like OTL, narrowly avoids getting piled on by surrounding Arab powers. The Israelis do develop nukes as a deterrent, but are less tied to America than ITTL.

Egypt is a leading pan-Arab socialist state, think of something between Nasser and Baathism, and is not very pro-Western. Began embracing some pan-Islamist rhetoric in the 90s, and has been regretting it ever since because of the terrorism it inspired.

Iraq under Saddam is as repressive as it was OTL, and they even take over Kuwait with no response in the early 2000s.
Saddam is the one thing keeping the country together, as the same sectarian and ethnic tensions we've seen in OTL are only worse. When he dies, Iraq goes up in flames, and the Americans, Russians, and Egyptians are preparing for this.

Latin America goes the same way as OTL: American interventions, Communist guerrillas, and brutish dictatorships. Cuba never gets taken over, and multiple insurgencies actually leads to an ambitious plan by the Americans to modernize the country and integrate it with the U.S. economy. Cuban mercenaries are a favorite of the CIA. Peru goes Communist in the 1970s, but not Shining Path crazy, and resists American efforts at regime change.

South Africa and Rhodesia go down violently. The Rhodies lose much more quickly due to more aggressive Soviet and Chinese support for the ZANU/ZAPU equivalents, and most whites flee to South Africa. The fall of Rhodesia basically puts the South Africans into panic mode. Wars with their neighbors in Mozambique and Namibia are much more brutal, and the Whites draw up a plan to split the country in two: they'll take the Cape with the Coloureds, and the Black majority can have the rest. Of course, this doesn't go as planned. Hardliner Afrikaners moved into the Orange Free State province, while the Cape remained majority Coloured. As growing protests and economic instability mounted, the government collapsed. A bloody race war broke out, with expulsions and massacres by white and black South Africans permanently scarring the country. When the dust clears, the country was split into four: the Coloured-majority democratic Cape Republic, the Afrikaner-run Orange Free State, the Zulu state of KwaZulu (which took a more independent socialist stance) and the pariah Republic of South Africa (also called Azania) which demanded reunification and the expulsion or extermination of the white minority.

How many people lived in these, exactly? It's hard to transport millions of people that far undetected after all. The logistical barriers are also a serious impediment.

Take away the UFOs, merge all the bases into one, and this would make an interesting Wolfenstein game, hell maybe even a Bioshock game.

I could see that. Like the Himmler-culty side of the SS does some out of control experiments that turn on them and kill them giving it a rapture-y vibe

Hello, I thought this was a great and thorough map and writeup. A few constructive criticisms I had:

1) Central Asia needs more action! There would likely be jockeying for spheres of influence between Russia, China, and the American Bloc. Additionally, at this time you would start to see the end of post-Soviet autocrats and the rise of nationalism and Islamism. Finally, you would start to have fighting over water resources, which are becoming scarce thanks to decades of Soviet-induced cotton monoculture.

2) Africa is a bit too convergent.

So years ago I used this Mars worlda base for a project and I needed it again but couldn't remember the source. I was wondering if anyone recognized it and its here if anyone else needed a non terraformed map for whatever reason:
