Tajikistan isn’t Turkic, it’s Iranian. But other than that it’s a decent map.

Hilo, Hawaii

Hey, it's me, back from Nepal! I've spent the last few days working diligently on finishing all the maps necessary to complete the published version of the People's Socialist Atlas (remember that thing?). Which, uh, means more teasers for the final version! Gotta get that non-existant hype train rolling so people actually buy it when it releases. Right now I'm hoping for an October release, but you never know with these things. Keep an eye out!

Today's map is of Hilo, Hawaii. In the Atlas-verse, Hawaii was taken as a British protectorate after its independence from the USA, and Hilo was absorbed directly into the British Empire. It basically became the Pacific Hong Kong, growing to 400,000 strong. By the time it was returned back to Hawaii in 2001, it was one of the largest tourism spots in the world. The map below shows a tourist map enticing people to explore old downtown Hilo, which was relatively untouched by the speedy growth of the city. Enjoy!

Also, the Atlas has a Discord chat now, if you want updates (and new, exclusive maps from the future book!).

Looks like something that would be in a cartoon show like Bob’s Burgers.

Tajikistan is ethnically Iranian whole the others are ethnically Turkic. They won’t like living with each other.
I think we can assume they were just using one of the earlier names the Russians gave the area and which others also called the homeland of the Turks. Besides, we are talking about people who called Kazakhstan Kirgizstan so as to not cause confusion about Kazakhs and Cossacks.

In the case of such a USSR breakup I don’t think Tajikistan would be so happy to stick with the others.

You can if you've made annoying obnoxious posts a bunch of times before and been warned to stop.

My objection wasn't that he ignored a warning, rather that the warning was issued in the first place; it feels like a mod just didn't agree with his sense of humor and used their mod power to get rid of them. Doesn't feel right

Dumb garbage isn't welcome in this thread, or any other off-topic thread. I'll be funnier if you'd like.

Lol, cumz0rs

I'm not saying I agree with the guy, you're purposely misunderstanding me, I'm saying he didn't break any rules. There's no rule that says you can't have a childish sense of humor. I agree that his ignoring of Moderator warnings deserves a kick, but the actual content of the joke does not.

The problem here is that even if we accept that childish jokes deserve a kick, who decides what is childish, what the line? It's just too subjective of an offense for me to silently support it. The idea of subjective rules goes against everything I believe in.

To be fair, the map is basically just putting Canada, Mexico, and the United States over Central Asia and areas with Eastern Slavs. Considering Mexico is named after the society of a bloodthirsty people around their current capital, and they fought a lot over their first century to keep areas all over the country from going independent (or at least getting the political rights originally agreed upon). I wouldn't be surprised if early on someone declared himself Khan or something.

If things are obscene or involve stereotypical chatspeak it probably counts. Plus this is a public area on the forum, so children might be reading this.

An insurgency in Tajikistan would not be worth a Turkic nation’s time. Hell Russia took a shit ton of time to subdue Chechnya.

The rules here don't work like that. Every single possible way a person can be an asshole isn't written down in a book where I'm helpless to do anything if someone doesn't violate a specific rule, the rule is just "don't be an asshole". I warned him not to be an asshole, he kept being an asshole in the exact same way.

Fair enough, I agree that Caucus-Ruso-Persian was in the wrong here, I agree that disobeying a mods warning deserves a kick, I just disagree with the premise of kicking based on humor. Let the court of public opinion punish him, or make it clear what counts as obscene. For example, is swearing period too obscene? If the logic is children might be here, then should we kick anyone who uses an 'F' bomb?

The problem isn't that, it's that "don't be an asshole" is 100% subjective depending on the feelings of the person in question. I could be considered an asshole now for defending someone who has kicked, for example. I don't agree with the guy, but I wouldn't say his joke made him an asshole, he didn't hurt anybody by making it, at worst someone might read it and scoff because it wasn't to their taste, but I wouldn't say he was an asshole for making it.

The problem with the rule "don't be an asshole" as was inforced here, is that you have to keep in mind every moderators opinions and tastes, because going against their tastes could be considered being an asshole, an offense worth kicking. I get that there isn't really a better solution to the problem of assholes on the forums, but that doesn't mean I support it.

Duly noted.

Now let's stop derailing the nice people's thread.
