Some of you may remember @lock 's Jigsaw America map from MotF 109 found here with the description here. I found it so entertaining I decided to make a fun spin off. This map shows how that ATL America would deal with all the land gained in an Mexican-American War.

Thanks I hate it

Maryland has no Pacific coastline?

Unacceptable.

Well, holy cow, I've been covered. That's awesome.

Totally fits the logic of the original, too. (Texas would definitely have needed to be State #16.) Well done.

And you know, I've never been a fan of the Worlda style. It's very much not my thing. But as every music lover knows, covers are often best done in a completely different style.

Really cool.

December, 1916: the end of World War I. POD is Japan losing the Russo-Japanese War, leading to greater political instability than in OTL, and an anarcho-communist revolution in 1910. Around the same time, there was a communist revolution in Brazil against the oligarchs and the Coronelismo system, and republicans in Portugal assassinated the royal family. In Mexico, an anarchist uprising split the country in half, with the north being occupied by the United States in an effort to restore order to Mexico. WWI was fought from 1914 to 1916 between France, Britain, Russia, Romania, and Serbia; and Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. Severe Italian losses in the Alps and growing famine at home caused the country to burst into revolution, destabilizing the Alpine front long enough for the Entente to make a well coordinated offensive from both the east and west, pushing into Germany and Austria-Hungary. With the Entente on German soil, the German High Command decided to make an armistice with the Entente and negotiate peace terms.
Interesting idea. I'd expect an "independent" Poland in the German orbit under these circumstances.

MOTF crosspost.

This is a map from my TL Of Droughts and Flooding Rains, showing South Africa’s first universal elections ITTL. If anyone wants to see the original, 9 MB (!) file, you can find it here.

motf_187_entry__small__by_kaiseremu-dcs68mi.png

Following the controversy of Ian Smith’s United National Party government, the 1977 election saw a landslide victory for Denis Worrall’s Liberal Party, promising to halt South Africa’s growing global isolation and adopt a path of reform, with the aim of universal suffrage by the next election. Worrall’s term saw widespread consultation with many groups, which eventually resulted in the drafting of a new constitution, which included:
  • a guarantee of equal suffrage
  • abolition of the provinces and their replacement with new states
  • abolition of the South African monarchy and replaced it with a parliament-appointed Chief Executive
  • the renaming of the cities of Robertsville and Watersridge to Tshwane and Gauteng, respectively.
The new constitution was then put to a referendum in 1981, in which all people groups could vote. The new constitution was approved by 78% of the voters, prompting the issuing of writs for a new general election for the next year, in which all South Africans would have the right to vote.

The 1982 election was South Africa’s first fully democratic election, without regard to race, wealth or gender. After the ratification of South Africa’s new constitution, which replaced the Union of South Africa with the Commonwealth of South Africa in 1981, South Africa’s first non-racial elections were held, with nine parties contesting the election. Incumbent Prime Minister Denis Worrall attempted to retain his position on a platform of continuing the reforms his party had begun. The election also saw record turnout, with millions exercising their new-found right to vote. Ultimately, Allan Hendricks won the election, becoming South Africa’s first non-white Prime Minister. Among his promises were fair wealth redistribution to improve standards of living nationally, and a National Reconciliation Commission. Entering into a coalition with the African People’s Party (led first by Oliver Tambo and then Nelson Mandela), Hendricks faced the challenge of reuniting a divided nation.

Review questions:
1. Based on the map above, identify geographic patterns in the distribution of votes for three parties.
2. Suggest why turnout was so high at the election.
3. What was a key reason for Allan Hendricks’ victory?
4. Which parties formed a coalition after the coalition?

Here is a map entirely made for a YouTube series with an extensive universe. Some parts of it are obviously ASB since there is an Anglicized Brazil, a French India, and, of course, the new land masses that ignore criteria of geology.

There are also a couple easter eggs for people who get some of the references.

Is this from a textbook? If so:
Teacher ITTL: “Alright kids, the review questions are for homework. If you don’t do ‘em, you get an F!!”

That was the look I was going for. Not entirely sure it worked.

“But Miss, you don’t even correct our answers! What’s the point?”
“It prepares you for your essay next week. Now shut up and get to work.”

"The best artists just make ASB stuff with absolutely no forethought and make them kinda aesthetic to hide the fact that they're simply pixel maps" -Paul Gauguin

Inspired by a post on one of my Discords, I decided to make sort of weird giant ASB Canada with no lore, backstory, or PoDs whatsoever, stretching from Hawaiʻi to the Faroe Islands to Guyana to the Yukon. The seven constituent kingdoms* - Hawai'i, California, Lower Louisiana, Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia, and Maryland - are something I thought up to make it at least a little more interesting, operating as sub-monarchies within the Federation because having a light brown over all that land would just be gauche overkill. Should the country be a monarchy itself? The population, wanting to get some rest because oh dear God it's 2:46 AM and I'm writing a description for a map instead of sleeping what is wrong with me, is divided on the issue. In conclusion, the Canadian Federation is a land of contrast.

*(well, constituent monarchies)

Someone please remind me later today at normal people hours to:
  • check the numbers, since those are probably wrong
  • change "constituent kingdoms" to "constituent monarchies"
  • make Ottawa a territory
  • maybe make a complete list of administrative divisions (names and all, official languages even, etc.) on here
  • fix the convergence of that one Californian internal border with the Canadian outline cos that's bothering me right about now
  • carve off another province from Québec - "Saint-Laurent", covering Côte-Nord, Gaspésie, and Bas-St.-Laurent maybe?
  • revert my expansion of Québec to the south

Interesting. What's the series called?

And another one!
Better though still showing a fair few errors in Britain (I can't comment on Europe) - such as Elmet covering South Rheged, Deira having somehow annexed Ebrauc, Middle Angles being Mercia and having more SE borders, West Saxons larger, the lack of a Cynwiddion remnant between the East Saxons, East Angles, and Middle Angles. The whole thing seems more 575AD to me. What sources did you use again?

I do like this style of map though. Nice use of contrasting colours and whatnot.

Since this came back to life, here are 12 Romanias.
A1-Kingdom of Romania (1881-1937): The Romanian Principalities never gain Dobruja, and remain neutral in European Affairs for half a century. The Kingdom came to a end when the Nationalists took control over the country in 1937, when Romania alligned itself with the Third German Empire.
A2-Greater Romanian Republic (1990-Present): Romania seizes all of Banat in the treaty of Trianon. It eventually loses WW2 to the Soviets and loses Bessarabia, but when the Soviet Union fell, Bessarabia joined Romania again.
A3-Königreich Rümanien (1920-1941): Romania remains in the Central Powers and gains Bessarabia from Brest-Litovsk. When Germany won the war, Romania is slowly integrated into the Europashaft, and gets the common denomination of "Königreich Rümanien" for its proximity towards Germany.

B1-Romanian Iron Guard (1942-1944): When Ion Antonescu got rid of the Iron Guard, Germany invaded and put them in power. Romania eventually fell to Soviet occupation.
B2-Union of Romanian Peoples (1946-1996): The Union of Russia invaded Romania at the end of WW2 and took Moldavia from it.
B3-Free Romanian Republic (1919-Present): The first of the "Free Republics" that the Americans started setting over Europe after both Great Wars. Lots of McDonnalds's and Walmarts.

C1-Sultanate of Romania (1587-1823): The Ottoman vassals in Romania unite into the Sultanate of Romania. The sultanate eventually leaves the Ottoman Sphere and forms and uneasy alliance against them with Austria. The Sultanate ended in 1823 with a joint Paris-Pact invasion ordered by the French Empire and Russia.
C2-Province of Dacia Magna (452-1554): The Roman Empire expands towards Northern Europe, expanding the province of Dacia.
C3-Republic of Yuzhnarus (1919-Present): OTL Wallachia and Moldavia are settled by Eastern Slavs coming from Ukraine. The region changes between Ottoman, Hungarian and Russian occupation for almost 400 years, until it finally gains independence in the Russian Civil War. The Republic is declared, and it survives to the present day.

D1-Eastern Roman Empire (356-1044): The Roman Empire is divided into West, East and South. The East comes under the rule of a Dacian dynasty until its eventual end during the Second Migration Period.
D2-Romano-Illyrian Kingdom (452-1725): The Romanians either never leave Illyria or are pushed back and set a kingdom in the region. The Kingdom is vassalized by the Franks in the 800, and later is made a protectorate of the HRE. It ended with the Illyrian Revolution in 1725.
D3-Vampire Kingdom (1444-???): The Vampires take over Transylvania and prepare to invade Europe.

I’d question treating Veracruz as a distinct territory from the rest of Mexico, for instance, which would strike me as going too far in the other direction; can’t chop and change the definition of Mexico to ensure a yes victory either. I’m also not sure it is the obvious answer: one large, binding referendum makes more sense to most people than splitting states and having four or five distinct referenda. That’d be rolling out the red carpet to secessionists, as far as Washington is concerned.

That's how most territorial disputes are worked out though, just look at Irish partition during the Home Rule Crisis- a body which had always been treated as a single entity was seeking independence/autonomy, a cohesive region of this body wanted to go against this, so the folks in charge decided to just take region off the table, "You can have your independence, but we're keeping this bit because they don't want to go." But again the problem there was that even within the nice meet borders they thought they had their was a minority which still wanted independence, and that would have required redrawing borders and just pissing everyone off even more.

It's how they decided to partition India as well, and they talked about it for the Hebrides and Orkneys during the Scottish referendum.

The best outcome for the US here is probably to cut a roughly contingent lump of Mexico loose. Say disregard the decisions in New Mexico and Durango and split Zacates and Puebla along any sort of ethnic or voting divisions the region have to maintain integrity. That way the US can reach from Texas to Veracruz and Mexico can go from Cali to the Yucatan without anyone feeling cut off.

Much as I love anarcho-communism I'd be doubtful that Japanese and Korean ancoms would maintain the territorial boundaries of the Japanese empire, never mind the hostility they'd face. I'd say Britain takes on Formosa and jointly governs with their preferred Chinese state, Russians would be occupying Korea already and would crush any revolts

Funny I thought I'd posted this reply last night...

Great Work!

(We really need a theard, or something to keep them all in. I'm done and lost count.)

The 12 countries meme got popular again so I decided to try my hand at it. (I apologize for the bad stories behind the different stuff.)

12 Estonias
12 Estonias.png

A1: Republic of Estonia
2018

Just OTL Estonia.

A2: Finno-Estonian Union
1957

After the Victory of the Axis Powers, Finland wanted to take control of Estonia under the basis of their similar cultures. Germany at first rejected, but eventually caved and the Finno-Estonian Union was born. the F.E.U. eventually left the Axis and sided with Britain and America. The Allies take advantage of an ongoing civil war in Germany and liberate Europe from the Nazis.

A3: The Baltic Alliance
2098

The Baltic was more of a military stomping ground then any sort of nuclear target which is why the nuclear fallout nearly skipped the Baltic entirely. After dealing with some stability issues, the Baltic states unified under the common goal of protecting as many people under a centralized government.

B1: United Baltic Duchy
1936

Just a simple WW1 CP victory scenario.

B2: Greater Estonian Empire
????

Standard unnecessary space-filling irredentism.

B3: B.S.S.R.
1948

After WW2, the USSR decided to unite the Baltics and Kaliningrad under a single SSR instead of keeping them divided.

C1: United Baltic Republics
1932

After the victories in their respective Independence wars, the Baltic nations decided unify under a single republic to stand off against the Soviets.

C2: Kingdom of Estonia
1836

Estonia is similar to Belgium in OTL. After standing out as independent from the surrounding powers of the Commonwealth, Sweden, and Russia, the Estonians send off some expeditions to the New World and establish Wredemaa (OTL's Montevideo) and create the colony of Eerikkijogi (OTL's Uruguay).

C3: Free City of Tallinn
1936

Estonia loses its independence war but keeps a defensive perimeter in and around Tallinn. The Soviets and the Estonians come to an agreement at the Treaty of Tallinn and establish that all land outside of the defensive perimeter becomes a part of the USSR. Estonia then becomes the Free City of Tallinn.

D1: Võru
2018

Estonia but with an ethnic majority of the Vorõ people

D2: RK Ostland
1950

Standard Nazi victory scenario

D3: Livonian Order
1444

Not gonna lie I just put this here because I ran out of ideas.

I love how the 12 country thing appeared a couple of months ago, died off and all of sudden it reappears with even more force.
