So, here's my first map for this thread (and probably my only map for a while).
Basically, a real-world adaptation of the "Youtube War".

But I'm 9 + 4 bonus years.
Apparently you’re born in 2005 (judging based on your profile name) which means that there is a small chance you still are 1̡͎̰͚̻̟͎̯͜2͏̷̛̯̞̭͙̙

No 12 year olds on here

Anyways

This is a concept map of Rise of the Night’s (formerly known as the “Nightrise Project”) Kingdom of Thailand before and after the Great War of Asia (comparable in both intensity and technology with WW2) so the map depicts Thailand in the 1890s and 1910s. The left one is the pre-war one, a time period locally known as the time “between two empires”, as both the British Empire In-Exile and the French Empire increasingly put pressure on the small Asian country, regularily snatching bits of land from it or setting provinces into a limbo between Thailand-authority autonomous region and Imperial protectorate. The right map depicts the Restored Kingdom of Thailand post-war as part of the Pacific Alliance as an associate country of the Empire of Japan.

This map certainly isn’t finished or finite so it might be subject to massive change before it’s completed but I’ve been more inactive lately so I wanted to show I’m still working on the project. Let me know what you think!

A Brief Overview of the Shrilloh and Wur'ruryi

As usual, some fascinating and convincing world-building you've got going on there! What I'm getting from all this is that the ocean is radiologically lethal to humans, but given the setting, wouldn't this effect to at least some extent pose problems for humand all over the planet? I ask because of the supposed outlaw humans living in the lawless frontier area your describe. I can get human ambassadors etc, living in the least radiologically problematic areas - possibly just genetically altered humans, as you suggest they can deal with the radiation better - and being stationed only for a certain limited period. (Rotation system?)

But some outlaws going in to hiding on this planet... well, I just suspect that problem may solve itself, if given some time! (That is, unless the rest of the planet is vastly less radio-active than I'm imagining it to be.)

Crossposting my MotF entry.

Now this map, although indisputably made with skill, just pisses me off. (Yes, I'm so dedicated to self-determination that imaginary secessionists getting screwed over manages to irritate me.)

I mean... someone just set this up to fail, right? The obvious solution would be to let the 'core' of Mexico vote as a bloc, and hold separate referenda in Texas, Rio Grande, Veracruz, Cuba and Transnicaragua. (The latter two, if willing to gain independence, could thereafter choose to either join Mexico or not.)

One could even alter the internal borders a bit to make things a bit smoother. For instance, the coastal strip of Zacatecas (between Unionist Rio Grande and Unionist Veracruz) is presumably Unionist as well, so that area could be transferred to Veracruz or something, thus yielding a result where the US retains territorial contiguity all the way to the southern tip of Veracruz. Likewise, if the ethno-political situation is anything like OTL, we may see the Maya people of Yucatan more eager to stay with the Union to to go independent, rather than join Mexico. So for the results most respectful of self-determination, Yucatan might be split into a south-western (presumably more Mexican) and a north-eastern (presumably more Mayan) state, with the latter also getting a separate referendum.

That this wasn't done, even though it's the obvious way to get things done respectfully and peacefully, pretty much proves malicious intent on the part of those organising this referendum. with the result, of course, being bloodshed.

Very nice! Although this meme usually comes with some extra written explanation of the scenarios (hint, hint).

God, you are a NAG, you'll make someone a great wife!!

A1] OTL Kingdom of Wessex.

A2] Mercia took the lead in defeating the Danish Viking invasion and as a result have dominated the other seven Kingdoms for the last 200 years.

A3] A systematic invasion by Saxon Tribes defeated not only the indigenous Britons but also their rivals the Jutes and Angles. Retaining their Germanic roots they accepted the authority of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederic in 1215.

B1] King Edward married into the Burgundian Line during the 100 Years War to secure their alliance. Although the conquest of France was initially successful France was later able to assert it's independence.

B2] The Merovingians, rather than indulging in the Family warfare of OTL, conquered Wessex, then most of the other Kingdoms of Alba. Their superior cavalry gave them the edge in battle.

B3] Originating in the Islands and Wetlands of Northern Europe, the Frisians [including the subjugated tribes of Jutland and some Saxons] expanded into the areas vacated by the collapse of the Romans. Their ships dominate trade in the Dogger Sea. In 830 they defeated the upstart Gota raiders from the North, using their superior ships, deflecting their efforts to the East.

C1] The evacuation of Britannia in the 400's proved to be temporary. Secondary Legions were raised in the province were crucial to the defeat of the Barbarian invasions in Gallia but were unable to regain Rome from the pretenders based in Italia and Hispania. Those lands were later irretrievably lost to the combined Goth Nation.

C2] 1967, the situation after the Cuban Crisis escalated out of control. Britain tries to recover from their adherence to the Soviet Bloc.

C3] The World-Raj expanded into Space to exploit the resources of the Solar System. First stop; Luna.

I’v imbibed three Old Fashioneds and a champagne so bear with me, I’ve a strong constitution (Aussie Aussie) but might be a bit loose. Thanks mate, it’s a part of a sort of quasi-reboot of my bizarro-sci fi project; the one with talking trees and nepotistic moon snakes. Though these guys in particular are wholly new material.
Humanity is advanced enough that among the ambassadorial staff they can rub on a daily layer of what is basically sunscreen to block electromagnetic radiation, and have water purifiers for the water. However there are limits to this and you are right that the staff is rotated out on a regular basis; theoretically they could stay longer but the Shura isn’t interested in thousands of lawsuits (which are indeed a thing in the future, space is very litigious).

The outlaws, as such, usually bring some equipment with them. There’s a bit of an underground network of the sunblock, water purifiers and importantly digestible proteins, but this isn’t especially reliable and so human and other foreign aliens often die as a result of running out of one supply or another and essentially being cancered to death. Nevertheless that’s still transgressing the Shura’s policy so they’d prefer it didn’t become a regularity.

Well hey that’s probably the better way of doing it. But since when have governments had the foresight to properly prepare for referenda on major political issues, such as a large polity of dissafected working class voters choosing en masse to leave a major economic union? I mean that’d never happen ;). (Though admittefly this went the other way)
But I’m sure there were likely some political wonks that pushed in Texas and the like as their view was that this would ensure a no victory, but it’s certainly not the result of some grand scheme to dupe the Mexicans, and malicious intent sounds a bit too emotional for my liking. I’d question treating Veracruz as a distinct territory from the rest of Mexico, for instance, which would strike me as going too far in the other direction; can’t chop and change the definition of Mexico to ensure a yes victory either. I’m also not sure it is the obvious answer: one large, binding referendum makes more sense to most people than splitting states and having four or five distinct referenda. That’d be rolling out the red carpet to secessionists, as far as Washington is concerned.

1916 WIP.png

December, 1916: the end of World War I. POD is Japan losing the Russo-Japanese War, leading to greater political instability than in OTL, and an anarcho-communist revolution in 1910. Around the same time, there was a communist revolution in Brazil against the oligarchs and the Coronelismo system, and republicans in Portugal assassinated the royal family. In Mexico, an anarchist uprising split the country in half, with the north being occupied by the United States in an effort to restore order to Mexico. WWI was fought from 1914 to 1916 between France, Britain, Russia, Romania, and Serbia; and Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. Severe Italian losses in the Alps and growing famine at home caused the country to burst into revolution, destabilizing the Alpine front long enough for the Entente to make a well coordinated offensive from both the east and west, pushing into Germany and Austria-Hungary. With the Entente on German soil, the German High Command decided to make an armistice with the Entente and negotiate peace terms.

Some of you may remember @lock 's Jigsaw America map from MotF 109 found here with the description here. I found it so entertaining I decided to make a fun spin off. This map shows how that ATL America would deal with all the land gained in an Mexican-American War.

If Japan lost the war, there won't likely be a Entente. The UK would still see Russia as a threat, and the Great Game sees a second wind as France is left out in the cold. Russia won't see the need for much needed reform and put off modernization. If anything and with the US busy in Mexico, this be a victory Germany and Co.

Man, if I have time soon I should create a annexation of Hawaii, Alaska Purchase, Spanish-American War spin off to this. You know to complete the borders of the United States to OTL.
