Basemap. And frankly I don't know why it's that color.
Huh, apparently Chile was communist for a few years in the early 70’s beafore Pinochet, and they were legit elected too. I guess that’s why the basemap shows them as red. You learn something new every day.

Please forgive my ignorance of Chilean history.

Well they had a red President, but I think it's a stretch to call the country communist

Age of Extraordinary Gentlemen

An Age of Civs (TM) oneshot currently a work-in-progress. You can probably guess the overarching theme based on the title, but it's a massive fantasy crossover set in an alternate timeline of the Age of Civs universe. One like if you can guess the three works of fiction that contributed to the southern tip of South America.

Here's a map of the glorious State of Jefferson.

Should I do a Native American-majority state next? I'm thinking of either a Navajo (AZ), Cherokee (OK) or a Iroquois-majority (NY?) state... :p

I always thought of Jefferson being the a rural Republican state. Hell, I toyed with the idea that Reagan became Governor of Jefferson as opposed to Cali. :p
It would be that too, I would imagine if it had done it back then. Now it is different from what I hear.

Gosh it's been a while since I posted something in the map thread...

I present to you, the Empire of the Karnutes, as envisioned by the Karnutes!

As you can tell, the... creative approach to projection, orientation, and provincial divisions are entirely purposeful. These folks are from my Achaemenid Greece timeline, existing in approximately the 1st-4th century AD according to our calendar. They are the successors to the first major Gaulish state, the Second Arverni Confederacy, and could be considered far more powerful. Certainly more durable. This map is of their claimed territories, their world so to speak, and is reflective of Etruscan imperial ideology in its neat divisions and attempt at symmetry; the Gaulish states were/are heavily influenced by a combination of Etruscans, Greeks, and Phoenician successor states, and this includes the notion of sacred, even divisions reflecting the divisions of heaven/the sky.

Their symbol is that found in the upper corners, the howling wolf with a shining star. This is something I've adapted and modified from OTL Karnute coinage, and even in-universe this style of imagery is considered archaic, even crude. But it is an ancient symbol among the Karnutes that is treated with quite some respect in the Mediterranean, so they continue to use this styling even as their courtly and monumental aesthetic has become far more reminiscent of the great Mediterranean powers.

The map was made somewhere in the 2nd century AD, ITTL, and of course should have all of its labels in Greek script, whether that's the Gaulish Etrusco-Massaliot script or that developed by the Puno-Greek culture of Oretania, but between the difficulty in rendering that and in anyone reading it I've instead 'translated' it in this version.

The absence of rather important regions is very much deliberate, reflective of Karnute ideology at this time, as is the inclusion of Africa when so many other places have not been.

It would be until people from the Bay Area and Sacramento move in. That would be enough to allow the Democrats to be at least somewhat competitive on the state level (and also means at least one or two of the four House seats that Jefferson would get would be highly competitive).

I do remember reading something about how tonnes of Californians are moving to smaller, mostly Red states as to escape the taxes and other overbearing government programs (don't quote me though). So that would make some level of sense. :)

Wouldn't just be Republicans and moderates, Humboldt County has a very active Green Party.

How interesting... So Jefferson could easily be the halfway point between the more SocDem/Green Politics side of the Left and the moderate/libertarian wing of the Right? That would make for some very interesting political dynamics.

That's just in Humboldt County AFAIK, the rest of the area which Jefferson would contain has fairly typical rates of third party politics. Local Democrats also seem to be on the moderate side too. But I wouldn't be surprised if you had a strong libertarian (lower case) streak in politics in the area among both Republicans and Democrats and the actual Libertarian Party.
