One question though, should I try to "indigenize" some of the toponyms if the country at large still speaks Spanish (or at least a Spanish creole)?

I'm lately getting into the two Americanizing factions that exist within Age of Civs, so I decided to create aerial "maps" of two such colonial schemes.

The one on the left is a typical Attucks Society village, based off of the urban northeast. It's named after a man shot by the NYPD in the early 21st century (but also after its founder, a Mr. Ramathorn), is styled after Northeastern cities and towns complete with a New England village green, and has a more ethnically diverse population (40% white Anglo, 40% white Hispanic, 10% black, 5% East Indian, 5% Amerindian/other/thoroughly mixed). The one on the right is a Jeffersonian colony that is based more on the romanticized agrarian past and the South in particular; it's quite a bit whiter than the Attucks settlement but both are generally respectful and well-behaved communities. Note that explicitly American symbols are kinda taboo in this universe for historical reasons (the 2020s-2060s see a huge backlash against the US on environment and economics) so even having a white picket fence or a flag modeled after the American one is seen as subversive and "dark" in the same way that pentagrams and black ski masks are today.

Yup. It's a deconstruction though, and on Terra the Culture eventually collapses into a robot war as some AIs decide that humanoids cannot be trusted. The Culture eventually prevails thanks to help from its colonies, but it turns out that good old Earthling ideologies are a far bigger threat imo than classic sci-fi enemies.

In the actual culture (the one from the books) i don't think there has ever been a case of rouge Minds, plus humans can't to much to minds.

What was the robot war like? I'd imagine with the advanced technology of the culture, serious shit would go down.

This is a deliberate attempt by humans (and, after the singularity, modded humanoids) to build the Culture (the books are fictional in this universe too but are seen as an ideal by much of humanity by the 2200s). The war occurs because (again, this isn't canon because the Banks Culture is fictional in this universe) of a virus that causes some *Minds to behave in extremely erratic fashions, making very large and inexplicable miscalculations that cause significant scarcity and even hunger in some cases while in other cases the *Minds go berserk and attack the humanoids that they are associated with. The result is that in several cases humanoids attack the mechanical components of these *Minds with flamethrowers and other weapons, blaming them for the tragedies earlier in the year. It's later revealed that the Humanoids First! riots in North America and the viruses that infected numerous supercomputers were orchestrated by the same terrorist group, which sees the Culture as dystopian, authoritarian, illiberal, stifling, and at risk of destroying itself with decadence; the group views the imbalance in power between superintelligent AI and humanoids as a serious long-run threat and decided to demonstrate it in a spectacular fashion by causing some AIs to go bananas. A number of other, unaffected AI conclude that humanoids are fundamentally irrational and must be kept in check. The resulting conflict is a three-way mess that sees Culture loyalist AIs and humanoids (along with loosely aligned but non-utopian indigenous peoples) battling against bands of humanoid supremacists and their AI slaves on the one hand and against anti-humanoid AIs on the other. The result is a heavily automated and yet very deadly war that sees AIs launching rockets at one another, in many cases with limited regard for the thousands of humanoid civilians caught in the fray, and the Culture's military/Special Circumstances Force for the first time in either the books or in the Aeon Musk is forced to order strikes against its own cities and ships.

Is that Cities Skylines? I love that game! Pity it can't run on my 8GB RAM gaming computer from all the mods I've piled on it. :(

Yup! I got into worldbuilding through it ;) because I found having a backstory made my cities more immersive than just building a random old city on a random old map.

Inner Glow and Colour Overlay in Photoshop.

Inner Glow is Blend Mode: Normal, Opacity 50%, Noise 0%. Technique is Softer, Source is Edge, Choke 0%, Size 20px. Normal contour, range 50% and 0% jitter.

Colour overlay is just the same colour, blend mode normal and 10% opacity. The under layer is just white.

Edit: and the layer itself is all black, and the fill is 0%. Eg, if I am drawing Virginia, I have all of Virginia in black at fill 0%.

I see potential with that map of yours. Keep up the good work dude! It’s about time a UAR-wank concept finally got more attention. :D

    "Cavorite Mars' 1930s.

The North Sea Group (NSG) is Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands; who operate a joint Voidship program
    .
The Pacific Pact (EPP - what with it more accurately being El Pacto del Pacifico), is Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, and the United Mexican Republic, who also operate a joint Voidship program.

Map shows all settlements with over 5000 people, quite a lot of them are more for prestige than pragmatism. The population is growing rapidly, as the other powers try to prevent the post-Orleans Treaty British and French refugees from out-numbering everyone else by bringing their own people in.

Mars survived the Great War pretty well, being on the far side of the sun from earth at the time and no-combatent wanting to provoke the neutral powers or disturb the various Martian relics.

War may be coming to Mars though, for unlike the great chasms that have been parcelled up to everyones acknowledgement (if not desire), the fertile expanse of the Hellas Basin has become something of a free for all. The next time American fillibusters try something silly it might blow up in theirs, and eveyone elses faces.

-Germany once had a much larger presence in the Chaisma-Acidalia region, but conceded land to the Treaty of Orleans refugees, quite the source of ire to German hypernationalist Mars-dwellers.
-Hellas is deeper and more habitable than any other lowland reason, but had lower population after the Terror tore through mars, recent brinkmanship between Germany and the USA may change this as both side bring more and more in, and Hellas is now also a favoured destination for cosmopolitian immigrants.
-The treatment of the Green Soss varies widely by region, in Hellas they are effectively herded and used as a slave labour source, the less intelligent Argyre strains are treated with amusement and are used to watch goats and build drystone walls, Utopia-Isidis and Amazonis fearly try to ignore them, whilst a great range of treatment can be observed in the Chiasma-Acidalian basin (which also has the greatest range in intelligence amongst its strains).

Here's a basic map of an enlarged Lake Eyre with OTL Australian state/territory borders overlaid. Obviously ASB, no need to tell me about it. :p

I might do a follow-up to this map with the entire country including alt-state/territory borders to reflect the changes in the environment. :)

Assuming you mean Adirondack and Long Island, Long Island was never part of the Province of New York during the colonial era. Long Island in this timeline was settled by the Dutch and New Englanders from the New Haven colony (as it was in reality), however there was far more settlement than in reality, which caused the English to grant Long Island its own charter, with a capital in Southampton, making it more distinctly New England. Like the rest of New England, it remained loyal to Great Britain during the American Revolution, and thus never joined the United States.

During King William's War, the New York Militia refused to move north to help the militia in Albany County. The militiamen from Albany mutinied and fought alongside New England militia units to protect against native attacks and the French. The so called "Albany County Mutiny" is what caused the King of England to revoke portions of New York's charter, which separated Albany County from New York. Fast forward to the American Revolution, and Albany County, along with Vermont, are portions of the Province of New Hampshire, which, like the rest of New England, remained loyal to Great Britain.

This map isn't yours. By all means post it, but attribute it clearly to @Nugax if you're going to do so.

Why? Now they're being ruled a lot more locally they'll probably be more stable than OTL.

I fucking love these maps Kit.

My reasoning is mostly that an Assam of these dimensions would be ethnically, linguistically and religiously divided. This demonstration map which I've mocked up quickly rather shows my point:

    india edit.png

...that's languages - ethnicities - religions. As you can see, the area of your Assam (marked within the red border on each map, roughly) is quite divided. That's simply not a recipe for long-term stability. It's basically a Yugoslav-style civil war waiting to happen.
