Hey guys, happy new year! Also
I want to re-vamp the maps for my greater Spanish empire, with a better mapping and also make it more realistic, however,
erm, I'm kind of going based off of my playthrough as Spain in EU4 for this series LMAO

The year is 2056...

Why did Pakistan collapse?

What is that small state south of Afghanistan?

What is that medium sized country south of that small state?

Why did Iran annex Azerbaijan?

Why did the BJP decide to give Jammu & Kashmir more autonomy, when one of their more consistent demands is to repeal all autonomy? Kind of like Trump pushing for open borders.

Why did Kazakhstan annex some of Uzbekistan? Is there some rivalry I haven't heard of?

Why are India and China suddenly good friends?

Sometimes I intentionally leave out details because I think it makes the world seem more realistic if it has just the right amount of ‘quirk’ to it.

Sorry to pick on Pakistan, Quaid e Azam, but they were defeated in a war with India in the early 2020s. The successors are Punjab, Islamabad, Quetta (maybe a rump Baluchistan with strong Brahui backing?), and Sindh (which has divided Baluchistan with Iran).

The collapse of Russia (and some neighboring countries like Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan) I was intentionally vague about too, but that has something to do with a failed revolution (and alleged CIA coup) devolving into civil war and ultimately individual states making peace with each other. The general change of Central Asian borders I’ll ascribe to a period of Eurasian instability (like the Yugoslav wars but on a geographically larger area).

Of the things in this map though, Kashmir seems the least unrealistic to me. [The BJP is already an insignificant party by the time of the map.] Indian military power over Pakistan means India’s never going to give up Kashmir, but the general will of the local population (not to mention demographic trends) will move out of India’s favor in the long term (especially when the Kashmiris on the formerly Pakistani side of the LoC are given Indian citizenship). The party controlling the central government will see no other option (even if they’re a Hindu nationalist party opposed to Kashmiri autonomy) than to give Kashmir greater sovereignty.

India and China being good friends is admittedly perhaps a long shot, but if they can manage their border desputes (and China stops supporting Pakistan once they’re out of the picture) there could be a lot to gain from a partnership. Add to this the backdrop of an angry U.S. adamant that it’s not in decline, and there may be real reason for this states to make up. As cutthroat as Asian international affairs are now, people used to feel the same way about France and Germany.

I hope it’s still believable though, even if a lot of it hasn’t been thought out or rests on a Pakistani and Russian collapse.

To kick off the new year, here's another map from the TL-verse now to be known as E Pluribus Unum, this time showing the dominant linguistic communities in TTL's United States.

(Credits to @LeinadB93 for making the base map)

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or privileging one tongue over another; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

-First Amendment to the United States Constitution

The Language Clause is a segment in the First Amendment added in the early days of the republic to satisfy the concerns of French-speaking Canadiens and Acadians fearing for the loss of their culture and heritage. In effect, the clause prohibits the federal government from setting an official language throughout the entire country (a situation that would've imposed English, as the dominant language spoken by the majority of its citizens, at the expense of others), allowing each state to set their own language policies. Over the next two hundred years, as the United States has expanded across the continent to reach its present-day borders, immigrants from all over the world (especially in Europe during the 19th and early 20th century) continued to pour in, bringing their languages with them. This trend still continues to this day, especially with the rise of Hispanic immigration in cities like NYC, Chicago, Montréal, etc.

In practice, while the federal government has no official language, English, French, and Russian (as the three most widely-spoken languages in the country) are most often used in official proceedings, as well as being used in broadcast media and other contexts. Overall, French is official in two states (Canada and Nova Scotia) and Russian in five (Yukon, Alaska, Kodiak, Kenai, and New Russia). In the Midwest, German continues to be spoken by small pluralities in Dakota and Absaroka, while Minnesotan (a creole of the various Scandinavian languages that has since branched off into its own tongue) has official status in its namesake. Meanwhile, the various Native American languages continue to be spoken by the various communities, though it is more broadly spoken in the northern territories.

numbering nearly six million active troops*,

Missing a footnote there. Perhaps some huge number of reserves?

How _do_ you pull off a "New Meiji" in a mature industrial state with sharply declining demographics? Perhaps (noting the bit on military robots) some sort of AI and robotics revolution leading a productivity boom? (Probably needs very active government intervention to keep it from just wiping out millions of human jobs: make everyone a shareholder in the new AI driven industries and businesses so they retain income while human society retrains?)

ALT 1540 AD (P.O.D. 1530's)
-The Spanish led under Carlos V von Hapsburg would manage to inherit the Franche Comte or Franco Condado in Castilian, as well as Austrian benelux through similar methods of that of OTL, however these events of inheritance occur decades earlier
-Immediately making use of their new power, and having Carlos V as the emperor of the HRE, the Spanish allow themselves to go to war with Genoa and annex them whole, soon setting their sites on the HRE state of Liege
-An anti-Spanish aggressive expansion coalition is formed, included Florence, Ferrara, Venice, Mantua, Nice (Savoy), and a few other states, the Spanish wish to start a war against the small coalition in order to authorize themselves the ability to annex these states
-The French are off to worse relations with the Spanish now, Spain's current new allies, Austria, Portugal, and Britain, are currently unwilling to aid them in a war, for a while at least
-The French and English dispute over English annexation of Calais, as well as English troops occupying northern France pushes the two powers close to war
-The Spanish attempt to weaken the HRE through reforms led by Carlos, however his reputation and authority is quickly declining due to the empire's expansionist ideas in Europe.
-The Scots find a strong ally in the French, hoping to fight alongside them if a war broke out against the British, in order to make themselves feel safe
-The Ottomans grasp control over Algiers, outraged, the Spanish begin their new desire to continue the Reconquista in northern Africa, Spanish city states such as Oran, are forcefully converted the Catholic, as divisions of troops begin to close in on Africa
-The Portuguese expand along the Arabian coast, finding a new Rival, Persia, while effectively monopolizing trade and weakening Oman to eventually vassalize or annex it.

Good map, but I see some issues...

I don't see Newfoundland seceding, but Labrador is essentially useless to the British, I think. Perhaps the "alt america pays a bit of extra money? Not too big of a deal, just a nitpick

The southern border is both WAYYY too convergent and in the western part, kinda implausible. I'm mostly talking about S.F. bay, which probably would be an Important location still ttl. Without the city of SF it would be extremely difficult to access the bay at all, and the bay is basically the only access to the Valley of California. What I'm saying is, It's pretty much impossible for a state in this position to fight a war in California overland if the place isn't completely undefended, so really the U.S. should have the whole bay (+maybe the Monterrey area south of it) or none of it, and if it has none of it than its very VERY implausible to have any part of California at all. (Oregon is a different story)

At BEST, I can only see 2 Russian speaking states due to the sheer inhospitality of Alaska. Only 2 of the 5 or so Russian States have any agricultural land AT ALL and it is of quite poor quality. It's a similar of the state north of lake superior as well. If alt usa allows states with basically 0 population, I guess I could see this happening but otherwise it's too much of a stretch (for me, at least)

I don't see dutch surviving up to otl time. It's similar to English in grammar enough that assimilation would be very hard to prevent, and If i'm not mistaken had mostly died out by the time of the ARW anyways.

Hopefully these aren't too big of a deal, just some issues I see.

ALT 1570 AD
-The Polish, Danish, and Swedish gang up against the Teutonic Knights, annexing them and splitting their land amongst themselves
-The Spanish reconquer their western Saharan Claim which was previously owned by the Berbers, The surrounding north African coast is either fully colonized by the Spanish, or invaded by aggressive Spanish armies of around 20 thousand men in total
-Spain Vassalizes the Knights of Malta, before then annexing them 10 years later in 1553
-By 1547 tensions erupt into a war in Northern Italy, The Spanish fight the entire anti Spanish Coalition with a 35 thousand strong army, the Pope is forced to keep the Papal state neutral due to his ties with the Spanish, the Spaniards defeat and annex Liege (in Benelux), Mantua, Florence, Parma, Lucca, and gain reparation payments from Venice and Ferrara all before the end of 1549
-The Papal state later gets into a territorial dispute with Ferrara shortly after the war, this leads to the Papal military to conquer Ferrara and annex it
-The French view the Spanish negatively and wish to engage in a war with them in order to stop Spanish mass expansion, however by 1549 a massive war finally breaks out between the English and French over Calais and northern France, The English are not ready for the threat they are about to face, Scotland is almost immediately in the war after it officially starts, the British are caught fighting on two fronts, The British towards the end of the 1560's manage to almost completely occupy Scotland using 35 thousand troops, however, due to their distraction of focusing too much against the Scots, the British lose Calais and their occupation in France, the French bombard the English channel with an army of 45 thousand men which push through the County of Kent and Storm the gates of London,
-All while this is happening, the English begin attempting to convert their nation towards Protestantism, however a large majority of the nation is still Catholic, a peasant army of 21 thousand men rise up near Liverpool to defend their Catholic faith, in the middle of the war
-The end of the war brings about reparation payments from the English to both the Scots and French, while the French annex Calais and occupy much of South Eastern England (1567)
-At the same time, the French are in no shape to start a war with the Spanish now, as only about 22 thousand men remain in the French mainland to defend the border, meanwhile the Spanish have about 55 thousand men on their border with France, the French have almost 45 thousand men still in England recovering and waiting to be sent back home
-The British give into the demands of the Catholic rebellion, giving more rights and tolerance towards the Catholic faith, ultimately weakening their political move to convert their nation
-The Ottomans annex the remainder of North Africa
-With the Anti Spanish Coalition defeated, the Spanish look to unify with the papal State and Venice, they move to increase their influence in Rome greatly

The First World War begins in 1913 and ends in 1916 with the victory of the Entente. The post-war economic crisis is causing the socialist revolution in France and the United States. The Russian Fascist Party seizes power in 1926. The Russo-British confrontation in Asia is intensifying. -After almost 5 years of increased Spanish influence over the Papal State, the next Papal ruler ended up becoming a Spanish influenced one, by 1576, the Papal state was being occupied by thousands of Spanish troops as if it was a Spanish vassal or a Spanish province itself
-By March of 1579, the corruption in the Papal government and the influence of the Spanish led to the Spanish assimilating the state into the Spanish Empire.
-The Spanish soon get into trade disputes with the Ottomans and Venetians due to their islands near Anatolia, which were formerly Genonese, the Spanish in retaliation decide to Embargo the Ottomans, and begin to annex new colonies in Africa and India at a new pace
-The Spanish declare war on the Venetians, immediately sending 25 galleys into Ottoman seas to conquer Venetian controlled islands, furthermore sending multiple transport fleets to carry an army of 15 thousand men to raid the Adriatic coast of Venice, and the mainland, another front of 25 thousand Spaniard troops would quickly break through the western Venetian border, siegeing the capital by July of 1582, thus leading to the forced annexation of Venice, and later assimilation
-The entirety of the early 1580's is spent with the Spanish disputing that their king should be the new heir of Portugal, due to the death of Portugal's ruler, and the implementation of Regency council, the Spanish, much like OTL are unified with the Portuguese in almost the exact same way, however this more expansionist Spain not only integrates the Portuguese, but they also annex the entirety of their empire, consolidating all of Portugal's vassals as well as colonies
-By 1585 Spain seems almost unstoppable, they are allied with the British, Austrians, and the Polish.
-Tensions in the Mediterranean are much higher as the seas are now either dominated by the Ottomans or the Spaniards
-New Reconquista policies put in place have led to a brutal assimilation campaign in Spain's North African colonies, thousands of rebels and believers of Islam are executed monthly out of fear of conspiracy, meanwhile missionaries run wild forcefully bringing down Catholicism upon the land
-With the final HRE reforms of Carlos V in the early 1570's, the Spanish crown is able to keep their power over the HRE, however, Phillip II of Spain understood that the Spanish were becoming much to powerful to keep obeying and keeping the peace over the HRE, Phillip pushed many new reforms in the HRE through, many against the will of some of the Princes, he simplified the legislative system of the HRE, while giving a great deal of power to Austria and Spain,
-Finally, Phillip removed many lands from the HRE, he declared that Franche Comte (Franco Condado), Spanish Italy, and Switzerland, be removed from the HRE
-Phillip II fears of a potential dutch rebellion, therefore he sends an additional 10 thousand men from Italy to Benelux to increase Spanish grip over Benelux, he also increases much of the funding for the Government to assimilate all Spanish cultures to Castilian, and learn to Speak the Castilian tongue.
-Due to Phillip's reforms, he also grants Eastern France's lands to not be considered apart of the HRE, in order to improve relations, he also considers southern Denmark not apart of the HRE
-Phillip spends a majority of the 1580's promoting war between the HRE states, so that only a few will remain, and those few should decide how to divide up the land (currently Bavaria is almost 40% larger than in OTL, they have mostly expanded west and north, Prussia is also about 20% larger than OTL)
-Little did Phillip II know, his actions to bring Spain to the top, would lead Europe into the largest war it has ever faced, which will start in February of 1600.
