I'll have to look into that. I find Canadian borders are bit difficult. It's a wide, tall and mostly uninhabitable place, do drawing internal borders can be tricky.

Everyone remembers the day that God left.
The Tribulation was almost over. The Adversary, the Antichrist, who was revealed to be Nicolae Carpathia, and the False Prophet, the former pastor Joel Osteen, and the legions of demonic armies had arrived at Har-Megiddo to do battle with God. Sure, the Tribulation was a bit... different than expected. The evil One World Order had far less power than what had once been expected. But it was still the day of reckoning, the day when God would come down and establish His kingdom on Earth once and for all.
Except it didn't happen.
Heaven erupted into chaos as the question of God's location suddenly, for the first time ever, became an issue. Angels poured out of heaven in search of their master. The Archangel Raphael took most of the souls of the Just somewhere that can only best be described as to the side of existence. The rest of the Angels, however, suddenly realized that nothing would ever be the same.
Satan, then assuming his pre-fall name of Azazel the Lightbringer, or Azazel-Lucifer, marched his armies into Jerusalem, wholesale slaughtering most of what was left of the Christian and Jewish population of the world, destroying the New Temple, and then centralizing things in Beirut, in what was once Lebanon.
However, Satan was not without rivals. The darkest wisdom from before the great Flood of Noah speak of one even greater than Azazel, once who originally lead the Demons to fall, and even tempted Azazel away from the bosom of the divine. And with the disappearance of God, Samjaza of the Forbidden Love felt his arms free as the shackles that were once fated to bind him in Tartarus for eternity dissolved like mist. Him and the Samjazanese Host ascended from hell, breaking through in what was once Nebraska. Legions upon legions of demons poured into the heartland of North America, torching any Luciferian forces that got in their way. Soon, the entirety of the Americas was under their grasp, and Europe was quickly being overrun.
Azazel-Lucifer, of course, would not stand for this. The archdemons confronted each other at the Second Battle of Armaggedon, where the two entities assumed their true forms. Quickly fading from earth view, the two creatures became what could best be described dragons, if Dragons were the size of the known universe. The fabric of existence rattled as the two great demons tore at each other like dogs. Ultimately, the battle was won by Azazel-Lucifer, who jammed a third of all of the stars in creation into the side of Samjaza. Defeated, Samjaza retreated deep into friendly territory, to reestablish his dominion.
Azazel-Lucifer then ascended into the heavens of heavens. All of heaven was desolate, with most angels hiding behind whatever star or galaxy they could to keep away from the firefight on earth. Azazel-Lucifer entered into the throne-room of God, where the train of God's cape still engulfed the marble pillars that supported the roof. The demon snipped off the bottom of God's train, as was custom back in the days of Israel, and ordered the rest burned.
Naturally, having a literal demon sit on the throne of God was not exactly going to please everyone. Michael and Gabriel, the two greatest of the last of the Archangels, confronted Azazel-Lucifer. However, Azazel-Lucifer merely laughed at them before sending them plummeting to Earth just as he had once been thrown. The two Archangels, realizing that they could not reasonably attack the demon at full power, then decided to attack his beloved: his children, the Nephillim.
The Nephillim were a race of half human-half angel hybrids that once lived on the earth in the distant past. With the Flood of Noah and the Great Binding, nearly all of them were killed. However, with no God there to stop them, the Demons took for themselves whatever women they wanted. To these children there was given only one commandment in this demonic Eden: Thou shalt lay with Angel or fellow Nephillim, but do not lay with the children of Man, for a curse shall be upon thine progeny.
Naturally, this was immediately ignored. And thus, the Rephaim were born. The Rephaim had all the strength and power of a Nephillim, and then Human ability to be compassionate and to be civil. However, there was one very, very important issue. The Rephaim did not have souls. When a Rephaite died, there was no life after death. There was only the here and how. And yet, in their inevitable quest for immortality, they became the most ravenous of hunters and adventurers the world, and yea the Universe, had ever seen.
Michael and Gabriel, however, were going to have none of it. They conquered nearly all of Africa and South America, and wholesale slaughtered anything that was not an angel in their path. Thus included Demon, Nephilim, Rephaim, and yes even Human ("it was your fault God left! Shalt thou like to meet him?"). Soon, angels that had once followed God settled in
these areas, building great and incomprehensible and vain structures, like a bee forming a beehive without a queen. Even the waters were slowly "blessed" so that only Angelic beings could drink them They were ultimately confined to their lands, and over time have been pushed back, but this does not make them more docile, except perhaps that Humans are now mostly left alone.
Meanwhile, in a great ceremony, Azazel-Lucifer consumed the Antichrist in a display of power never before seen, with the poor Antichrist's essence and nature dissolving into that of the demon's like a drop of honey into the ocean. When it was time for the False Prophet to be subsumed, things did not go as planned. He declared that he himself was the true prophet of God, and that He was secretly sent to conquer the earth in preparation to bring in the New Jerusalem. Narrowly defeating the weakened Azazel-Lucifer in a fight, he escaped into England, where he gathered an army and began to expand. However, all of the lands he controlled became... tainted with something not human nor angelic. It was something of his own creation, which was completely unprecedented on earth. He also revealed himself to be viciously sadistic. Demon and Nephilim alike were humiliated trying to stop him in the beginning.
Realizing that this mad Prophet would be an existential threat to existence period if he was not stopped, the two great Demon Lords drafted a truce between eachother, for a time,times and half a time. Meanwhile, Azazel-Lucifer began to parson out the lands he had conquered to victorious demons. Baal was awarded China, with which he had no idea what to do or how to react. He eventually began a process of treating his human serfs less like food and more like pets, which, while not great, was still better than cattle.
Humanity was not quite down for the count. What bits of the US nuclear program could be moved in time were shipped to the Dominican Republic. Nuclear Bombs couldn't really kill demons, but it could mess up the earth and hurt like hell. (A similar event happened in India) The Chinese were far more successful. The People's Republic of Asia was established by top Communist Party leaders essentially high tailing it out of China and into their puppet state of Laos, from which they expanded across southeast Asia nearly welcomed by any human areas left. To prove they were not to be messed with, the Chinese launched nearly a thousand Chinese and Russian nuclear missiles into New Babylon. While ultimately radiation doesn't really affect Demons and Nephillim that much, and the nuclear fallout and winter lowered Chinese crop yields for years, it made their point. Some of the most hardline and desperate Chinese communists invaded the chaotic and undefended lands of Australia, which now has an Asian supermajority and is the China to China. Both nations operate off of a form of rigid scientific atheism, with all religion in the country banned, all religious people that would not convert killed, and religion labeled a serious mental illness. And yet, life marches on.
Meanwhile, Rephaim uprisings in Russia (Russia was quickly conquered after Armageddon, and was essentially used as a Rephaim dumping ground) and Patagonia (same story different demons) established Rephaite states in both places. The Rephaim also allied the demon Penemue, who helped them decypher old Human science. There are Rephaite colonies throughout the solar system, and perhaps soon beyond as the first FTL spacecraft is scheduled for flight this "year." While things are still volatile, at least a new equilibrium has been reached.
If only they knew that God was juusssttt about to come back, this time with some friends...

'The Caucasian Pressure Cooker' - Map of Chechnya
Just a simple map of an alt-Chechen conflict. Nothing too hard.
I was inspired by @rvbomally's map(s) on an Iranian-occupied Afghanistan.
- The Soviet Union undergoes a more violent and bloody collapse in 1991, leading to more former SSRs and ASSRs seceding, with some of them succeeding and some of them failing.
- Russia remains a corrupt, semi-authoritarian state that’s beholden to an unholy amount of influence from the military, crime lords and the state-owned corporations. However, Moscow is on good terms with the West as they supply them oil for dirt cheap prices - plus their military and political leadership is too weak to ever be considered a threat to the West.
- Because of a friendlier relationship between East and West, the Arab Gulf States begin to feel backed into a corner and start pumping more funding and resources toward various radical Islamist groups, with the Taliban and Al-Qaeda being amongst them.
- Osama bin Laden is killed by an American-backed airstrike on an Al-Qaeda compound in Sudan. 9/11 is obviously butterflied away.
- The Chechen Wars start in a similar way to IOTL and end in a ceasefire circa 1998, with no armistice being signed. The Arab Gulf States, Pakistan and representatives of the PLO petition for the international recognition of the Chechen Republic, which eventually succeeds. The US, Russia and NATO are quick to declare it as a rogue state, however.
- Yeltsin is eventually kicked out during the 1999 elections, leaving a weakened Russia to occupy the northern side of the Chechen-Dagestani border.
- The Saudi-backed armies in Chechnya, with Al-Qaedan support, bomb the Moscow Metro in a similar attack to OTL 2004/2010 in 1998, killing hundreds of Russian citizens and tourists alike. Among the dead is the FSB Director and potential Presidential candidate Vladimir Putin.
- After a series of weak and ineffectual Presidents, the Liberal-Democratic Party wins the 2012 elections in a landslide with full support of a reinvigorated Russian Army. The Russian military re-invades the northern half of Chechnya shortly thereafter, but is currently bogged down in the northern half of the state.
- As of mid-2013, the Russian military and their Western backers haven’t made much progress, being bogged down due to poor infrastructure, lack of proper planning on the Russian government’s part and good old-fashioned corruption among the ranks.
- The backers of the Chechens, meanwhile, revel in the ineffectiveness of the Western states to defeat the Islamists in traditional warfare. Iran and Iraq are using the war as a game of greater political chess as to keep their respective governments from collapsing. The rapidly fracturing Syrian government (albeit not at full-on OTL Civil War mode – not yet at least) under Bassel al-Assad is one of their other battlegrounds.
- Meanwhile, the Taliban government of Afghanistan, remaining a neutral player in this geopolitical game, seeks to back the Chechens and other Islamists in the Caucuses, Central Asia and Western China, just to stir the shit.

Iran and Iraq are engaged in a mini Cold War in the Middle East. Russia, Iran, Israel and the US are uneasy allies as they want to kick out the Iraqi-backed Sunni nutjobs from Chechnya.

The more you look at it, the more you begin to see things similar to earth. The image I see not mine, but I just wanted to point out areas for possible improvement. New Zealand down south, The Great Lakes, A Hudson Bay and related islands, and Greenland. Otherwise, it's fine.
