Denmark as China, or alternately as Medieval Europe with internal visa requirements.
OEY3m5L.png

POD: The Nordic countries' housing crisis persists for many years, resulting in some governments adopting an internal visa and passport system similar to those in China (hukou, which indirectly inspired the Danish word, literally meaning "housecard" = Google Translate warning I don't speak Dansk) and in many medieval societies, where those in the lower classes were prohibited from leaving their hometowns or masters without a job or were prohibited from partaking in city rights such as voting and common defense. Because of the high cost of living in Copenhagen and Århus, both metro areas are granted license by Parliament to establish a quota system in which legal Danish residents who do not have the resources to contribute a large amount of tax revenue are denied entry until the housing market is able to provide for them. Copenhagen has two different tiers, with the more cost-burdened, often working-class communities requiring a higher level of residency permit (an "A" permit) and the more middle- and upper-middle class communities, often with developable land, requiring a lower level of skills, income, and contributions. Århus also adopts the system, but as it's only one municipality it adopts a single tier. Lastly, several areas with strong local cultures and dialects (Bornholm and South Jutland) are allowed to limit immigration subject to the preservation of the local dialect.

How did the Labour and Mosley get in bed together? Politically, they were about as far apart as a mainstream party and an extremist can get in the UK.

Frankly, given that Mosley was part of the Labour government of 1929-1931, perhaps Mosley purged the more horrible elements of his movement and had his original followers in Labour support him.

Back from a fishing trip, which was a nice break at gunpoint that simultaneously let met focus on some mid-semester tests. Here's a nearly finished WIP of a sorta three-way Cold War between democratic/constitutional North America & co, a mostly fascist continental Europe, and a technologist (i.e. syndicalist) bloc that used to include France and briefly California but has been reduced to Brazil and their rambunctious African allies. Then there's other fun stuff like Britain-in-exile(one of two actually) Indonesia, Catholic southern China and big-ass Morocco.

Little thing I worked on sporadically today.

Wow, that got a lot more likes then I thought it would. Thank you guys!

Here's some more for y'all!

If there is enough interest in the continuation of this series then I'll make a new thread (don't want to spam this one :)) and go into a bit more detail about the countries then just a title!

It's a vaguely defined region, admittedly. I consider the Great Lakes to be separate from the Midwest.
The Great Lakes, at least from where I am from, are considered possibly the most defining feature of the Midwest. Admittedly, it is indeed a vaguely defined region, but the Great Lakes States are practically the core of it. I think if you were to ask an average American (or at least a Minnesotan) about what states define the Midwest, states like Illinois and Indiana would consistently be in there

Unless this is not an OTL future map and the US breaks up well before 2017, plenty of people will remember before GAS and PRE were at war: 2060 is only 43 years away. (Admittedly, that may seem an eternity to the site's young fry).

To assume Mexico will collapse without US help with its crime problems is a bit insulting. (An alternative: Mexico collapses when the collapse of the US kicks off Great Depression II With All the Trimmings).

Also, New Mexico will join with Texas and Arizona over our cold, dead bodies. :p

Nice, but that's a rather threatening grey color for a democratic US-equivalent. Isn't that the sort of color that means independent confederacy or something along those lines when it's in North America?

I do believe it may well be, a remnant from when I was going to make them more isolationist and thus backwards. I rather like the colour, it suits the colour palette, but a dull shade of blue or green or maybe even purple will do the trick just as well. Blue looks pretty good, though could maybe be a touch dimmer. As some may have gathered, I'm very particular about my colours. It's what takes up the most time on my maps.

Well I guess I can trade my home city for the rest of the region being socialist... I assume California's "corporation" refers to some sort of left-corporatism?

Yep.

Oh, the little GAS and PRE thing was more of a joke, referencing the fact they ideologically hate each other.

And I did mention an escalated drug war. I meant idiotic Nixon style policies by the US that made the drug problem worse, then the US, after creating said problem just kinda went poof, leaving the Mexican nation to struggle with the now highly profitable drug cartels who had been selling to various factions in the civil war zone.

Lastly, that's pretty much how New Mexico went down. The Texans were not afraid to threaten nuclear war against them to connect to Arizona.

Thanks for using my Soviet Middle East patch
Yay you're the one that made that patch! I saved the map cause I loved it but I forgot to put the username in the file name. Is it okay that I used it? I was trying different internal boarders and yours looks the most visually appealing.
