And now we're on for some heavy duty ASB as it's a slow Friday in map thread land...based off of this conspiracy theory.

20XX - The Republican President of the US is delivering his state of the union speech when feeds from inside the Capitol cut out. Reporters outside observe that the Capitol starts glowing, first faintly and then shining as if to be made of jade, while the edges of its columns and dome glow a fiery red and Latin chanting fills the air for blocks. After seven minutes of this spectacle, the building's lights dim, and Congresspeople start filing out. Of them, about half - as well as the President - appear to have suffered severe shell shock, and whenever they are asked about politics they slip into laughing madness. Others, mainly moderate Democrats, show a remarkable degree of intuition, almost as if they are mind readers. Over the next few months, the same thing happens at monumental traditional buildings around the world - The Forbidden City, the Vatican, the Kaaba - turning many of the earth's lawmakers and rulers - especially those on the far right as well as the handful of surviving far leftists - into maddened shells while others develop incredible powers of reading others. Indeed, the apparent ringleader is the Prince of Wales, who is able of inducing similar effects on people simply by pointing fingers at them. A year to the day after these events occur, the Prince announces that he has come back, as prophesied, to deliver the world from extremism using ancient occult wisdom from the days of Atlantis. By 2100, all of the Earth's mainland is controlled by a network of benevolent exarchs who use sigils loosely based off of their local architecture: a half timbered gable, an onion dome, a colonial Brazilian window, a shoji screen, a ziggurat, a ringed pedestal of Borobudur, even a cross of Lalibela...(pardon the shite symbol drawings)

I'm not questioning those early borders you mentioned, just suggesting for the west that looking over old borders would be helpful. When it came to Victoria I was mostly thinking about the name, as she wouldn't be Queen until loooong after the Americans got the land. As for the Californian border... I feel it would be a tad tricky. The Salton Sea is less than worthless and didn't exist until maybe a century back so no need to think of that, but having San Diego with Baja... I suppose it would depend on how things changes, since Alta California was run by Fransiscans and Baja California by Jesuits. Having the border moved further north, changing them to North and South California, and having the south by filled with Spaniards, Natives, and Mexicans and the north with Miner Forty-Niners seems a simple enough thing to do. It would need LA in the south through, as just getting San Diego would leave Baja as a pretty poor state. Lived most my live in San Diego. But yah, just my two cents.

Wasn't San Diego much more important at the time?

Shameless plug: I'm working on the writeup for a galaxy map, though I'm not all that confident on the style of the map as well as my approach to the writeup.
A WIP to keep the thread going;)
Why do I use Paint you (I) ask? Wouldn't other programs be far more efficient?
Uhh...
Because torturing myself is fun?

So, what's up with this WIP?

(Hint: the Olde World is about 70% done, while the New World is as yet untouched)

Remake of your old Worldwar map?

A WIP to keep the thread going;)

Bharati Commue eh? Intriguing as heck. Watch out for that artifacting on that map though.

I guess I'll mention that I'm currently making some maps and that I should be posting them soon. Well, soon-ish.

It'll be my first time doing it seriously, so they'll probably be shit, but I want to at least try.

You can never have too many tribal nations! :D

A preview for a WorldA map that's based on an old CKII game of mine - albeit accelerated to the 1920's.

This is a historical map.

I was sick and tired of not being able to find a high-resolution map of the Indian sub-continent prior to Babur’s invasion showing the Timurid domains as well as the various state entities. So, I went ahead and made my own. I spent a lot of time researching this piece as well as adjusting the colour scheme, but in the end, I’m quite happy with both - although I could have wished for a more detailed demarcation of the territories controlled by Babur, but such is life when you’re making maps related to late medieval/ early modern India and Central Asia.

Before the Tiger’s Leap

In 1525, Northern India was embroiled in a bitter struggle for supremacy between the Afghan Lodi Dynasty enthroned in Delhi and a confederacy of Hindu Rajput states under the leadership of the grizzled Rana Sanga of Mewar. It is into this conflict that Ẓahīr-ud-Dīn Muhammad (called Barbur, meaning The Tiger) the prince of Fergana and Cisoxiana (present day Afghanistan) one year later directed his compact host of Turkic and Mongol warriors. Babur himself was the scion of a prestigious Mongol dynasty, tracing his lineage back to the world conquerors Tamerlane and Genghis Khan which embedded him with a sense of a right as well as a duty to rule - by conquest if necessary. However, his grandiose dreams of restoring the Timurid Empire were unraveled by the loss of his beloved Samarkand to the Uzbeks. A prince without a throne whose destined place in life seemed denied him, Babur instead turned his eyes south beyond the Hindu Kush; to the Indian subcontinent and the lush riches of the Indo-Gangetic Plain. Forays into the Punjab had already been undertaken and the city of Lahore subjugated in 1524 before the Timurid prince crossed the Khyber Pass like the Ghorid and Ghaznavid conquerors before him and went on to make his own destiny in the field at Panipat.

Babur’s eventual victory over the Lodis and Rajputs created the framework for the growth and blossoming of the Mughal Empire (Mughal essentially meaning Mongol), which in time would supplant almost all other states on the sub-continent and mature into an unrivalled martial and cultural powerhouse under the stewardship of Babur’s magnificent grandson Abu'l-Fath Jalal-ud-din Muhammad Akbar.
