My idea was that they'd be transported to an empty world, a bit like TwiliAlchemist's Vietnam scenario.

Oh.

I don't think it would go well since they is no infrastructure, no buildings, nothing really to start an nation with besides what they have on them. If ships, tanks, and planes come along, it could be a bit better. Now, if they nation came along as well...

dA page here.

This is a bit different from what I usually post, I've had this kicking around on my hard drive for a while now.

This is a regional map of Titan, Saturn's largest moon and possible home for alien life. It is one of the largest moons in the solar system, and holds by far the thickest atmosphere. Under the orange haze that surrounds it, there are many large lakes, rivers, and possibly seas of extremely cold liquid methane.

This is based on an original map by Peter Minton.

Oh what the heck, since I've spent almost a week on this. Here's my latest map from my TL: Of Rajahs and Hornbills.

Though the main story focuses on Brooke Sarawak, it also branches out to other places that were hard-hit by colonialism, like Africa. The main POD here is the ill-heath of king Leopold II before the Conference of Brussels, forcing the delegates to redraw the continent and give the whole basin to Spain.

Goddam this is textbook material good. I am impressed

Sounds like a fossil fuel gold mine for Terran natural gas companies.

I hope that by the time we can set up companies and colonies as distant as Saturn, we'll be using more efficient fuel sources (probably nuclear, since it's so far away from the sun to use solar power).

Methane could stay a very usefull rocket fuel (especially around earth)

Yeah, not to mention Titan's other hydrocarbons and their use in organic chemistry and chemical synthesis for fertiliser. And I'm not too familiar with industrial chemistry, but aren't many of Titan's hydrocarbons convertable to ethanol? And hopefully in the future, we can easily convert methane to methanol, which has a myriad of uses and hopefully even more which will be in use at that time.

I'm no expert, but can't we convert methane to methanol now quite easily? With the added bonus of Hydrogen gas left over, with all its uses?

In small quantities, but it isn't efficient. There are papers now which analyse the problem. Most all methanol is made through other means of synthesis. In theory, methane to menthanol can be produced efficiently, but that's a problem for future science to solve.

Hi Everybody!
This is actually my first post on this site. I've been really interested in althistory maps and decided to take a crack at a possibly overused, but still fun trope:

The United Provinces of North America (Blue, territories in lighter blue) were formed from the American Revolution of 1776. The old Dominion of New England broke away and, inciting revolution in the Two Canadas, decided to confederate and join together in a radical new experiment in federalism and republicanism. The newly named United Provinces of North America (UPNA) took its name from a letter from Revolutionary War hero (and later First President-General of the Federal Council) George Washington. It's capital is Washington, Upper Canada (OTL Ottawa)

Upon major victories in Virginia, Charleston, and Savannah, the British solidified their hold on the Southern and Mid-Atlantic colonies. Pennsylvania and later, Erie, joined the stable union of British colonies. Upon the addition of the Floridas, Cuba, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Saint Domingue, the colonies would later unite as the Union of Columbia (Dark red, Amerindian territories in lighter red). It's capital is Charleston, on the coast of the Royal Province of South Carolina.

The Spanish, then French Louisiana territory would never join what would become known as the Mexican Confederation, instead opting to be it's own Kingdom, under the rule of the house of Bourbon. To this day, the Kingdom of Louisiana (Gold-ish) is a modern, cultured, albeit devoutly Royalist nation in the Francophone community. The Royal capital is located in St. Louis, though New Orleans is by far the largest city in the Kingdom.

Meanwhile, though the proclamation line was still technically honored by the British (as part of the 1785 Treaty of Savannah with the Cherokee, Choctaw and Muskogee Tribes), many settlers inhabited the area within and around the Appalachian mountains. These areas continually resisted closer integration within the British North American Empire, though they did manage to settle with, trade with, and even adopt the culture of the Amerindians. With loosely based family, or clan societies holding supreme, in the coming Plantation Wars through the Southern areas of Columbia, these clans, under pressure from the Mittleamerikabund to their North, as well as Louisiana to their west, decided to join forces as a neutral union, known as the Free States of Appalachia (Yellow). Though fairly agricultural and low on economic development, Appalachia can arguably pointed to as the most democratic country in the hemisphere, other than possibly the Nordamerikabund. It's capital is Boone (OTL Boone, NC)

The Mittleamerikabund (Purple) is a union of the Germanic, Scandinavian, and Slavic settlements surrounding the Great Lakes in North America. It is a very loose Federation, governed as a parliamentary republic with a collective head of state, similar to the UPNA to their North. Their capital is New Hanover, Huronia (OTL Detroit, Michigan).

**Other countries of note include the Federal Republic of New York (Orange), and the Confederation of Central America (which lives up to Bolivar's vision of a great nation with a thriving economy and city in the vein of Constantinople lying in Nicaragua, where a Pan-American Canal is built (with the help of the British, Mexicans, and North Americans).**
Very interesting and not bad for a first scenario!

Could you explain the Nordamerikabund a bit more? How exactly are the Germans, Slavs, and Scandinavians establishing colonies in the North American interior with such a late POD?

I'd also suggest using a better basemap that does not leave stray pixels. I'll trying link you to one later, when I get to my computer.

Is there a new Long build map game coming!?
I do have plans for the next Long Build but as the first one took two years I'm gonna take a bit of a break to focus on some of my own creative projects.

Of course there's nothing stopping you from starting your own city-building map game...
