I have to ask, how is there next to no Islam in Arabia or the adjacent areas? Is it just that Muslims are consistently at 49% of the local population while Christians are at 50%?

Ah, similar reasons why there isn't many christians there today. Muslims never had a long enough hold of the place to truly establish a lasting stronghold. Arabia was only fully converted around 1600. Current year is 1830. In addition there weren't many economic incentives for wealthy Muslims to stay there with the former wealth of the Roman empire under their control, by this point most have decided against jihading for it, (like how the British didn't truly care to set up a Christian government in the Holy Land in OTL)

WIP ethnic map. Many of these groups have gone through a wave of ethnogenesis and most are at least somewhat of mixed ancestry.

Ah, that's the thing, Western Europe remained Christian far longer than the East. Though I will change the Frankish thing. The Italians didn't convert, they were conquered forcefully.

.

Yes, I saw that part about Italy, I was just tossing it into the "people who won't convert to Islam without force" category. [1] Because you seem to have western Europe convert to Islam by cultural attraction or something: pardon me if I'm not understanding.

[1] Conversion to Islam and Christianity, before modern times, was usually a one-way street: converting to something else is very aggressively opposed, often lethally. Long established Monotheist states are not in the habit of converting to alien religions without a metaphorical gun to their heads, although they may go for "reformed" or "purifying" retcons of their own religion.

Let's just wait to see how the votes are tallied. Gotta respect the democratic process. (seriously though, they could get by it if Armenia was Christian minority ruled. Though I doubt the Kurds, Azeri, Turks, Alecis, Sufi, etc would be thrilled about going under the sway of the Hashemites. Especially if it the caretaker of Mecca trying to make things into an Arabian Kingdom rather than an Islamic stare or caliphate.)

I realized that and decided it was from a fringe group that gathered support to put it on a ballot but ultimately the other ethnic groups decided the vote. This allows for the Armenian state to basically become a buffer state from the hostile Turkish State in the West. The Saharan Protectorate and the Timbuktoo Protectorate passed the measure with minimal opposition.

King Abdullah I bin al-Hussein is eyeing the rest of Islamic Africa; especially Algeria and Morocco. In Morocco, Mohammed Ben Aarafa reigns as the Sultan but, he only had daughters so al-Hussein marries his son Talal bin Abdullah to Ben Aarafa's eldest daughter in hopes of bringing the incredibly independent Protectorate into the Kingdom. In Algeria, the French claim a vast majority of the coast only allowing Algeria a small costal zone. This protectorate currently acts as a buffer state like the Armenia Protectorate but King Abdullah I bin al-Hussein is concerned that bringing this Protectorate into the kingdom will threaten France sparking an unnecessary conflict for the newfound Kingdom.

Anyways here is the map with the new and larger Hashemite Kingdom.

Ah, no what happened to the Visigoths was a slow eroding of their northern territories by the Franks and Burgundians, who by this point had become Islamic. (Working out details later, might make the Franks the Saxons instead), eventually a Gothic islamic state formed in former Visigothic Gaul, which went on to Jihad, along with some Celtic invaders, into the divided remains of Visigothic Hispania.

Italy actually still has some Christianity around it, mostly in the South (I forgot to add the Miaphysite parts of Sicily) and there's chunks of Christianity in Western Europe still. The thing is that the map only shows majority religions in areas.

Disgusting. o_O :p

Doesn't the map embiggen to visibility when you click on it?
I tried, both on here and Deviantart. It does zoom in, but due to the size of the map it blurs. I can read some of them, but it rather strains my eyes. I do use an iPad, so that might be part of the the issue, though.
I take it Miami, Ohio, and Translyvania are freeing to the Midwest states on here? For a moment I thought Translyvania might be in the far south on here, which given the climate and the origin of Sylvania... Really makes my wonder how Mississipi, Tennessee, and Alabama were like before settlers came in to farm and land speculators set up plantation economies. I like how for your Commonwealth of America that you didn't have Georgia take all of its IOTL claims. I always found it a little odd that an area so sparsely settled at first would get claims to such large amounts of land. Though they did give up most of the claims, partially for help removing tribes from the modern state borders. Ahhh, Charleston. Gotta be quite a city in this world...
Anyways here is the map with the new and larger Hashemite Kingdom.
What is the capital? And is the old Ottoman practice of having local elites do nearly all the local administration still going under Hashemite rule? And I do think an United Arab Emirates thing would be a good way to try getting people in, if there is a small portion of oil revenue going to her emirates or provinces joining the country.

Looking through my old computer, I found a map I made that may be interesting.
It's based on Roman Empire in current day. (It's not done, and never will be.)

I decided the capital is in al-Qāhirah. I decided the Ottoman practice would initially be implemented but eventually be removed for a semi-democratic election for the provinces. Yeah, i realized this morning this is a massive Kingdom and I should've gone the way of more independent protectorates. Would you divide this gigantic kingdom into Protectorates like i had before or are more needed?

Was the Roman Empire here supposed to be democratic (constitutional monarchy or republic?) or authoritarian? Or even totalitarian?

A work in progress.

The story is that Medieval Italy unites and becomes a superpower. The year is now 1920, 5 years after the Great War, which pitted Italy-United Eurasian Communes-Oman/Egypt versus Scandivia-Plantagenet-Mali. The Italians and their allies won, but Italy got locked into a Cold War with the Communalists. Now Europe is divided by a massive fortified border known as the ''Limes Magnus'' or Great Line. Colonial empires are beginning to crack, Communalism is on the rise and Italy's extensive holdings in ''South America'' are under dire straits by the independent minded Golden Dawn Alliance.

The Afghan Confederacy

Afghan Confederation Base.png

So my PC resumed working last night, so I decided to mess around with a concept I have been brewing for a while, while at the same time finally trying something with internal divisions. The POD is simple, Afghanistan draws closer to the allies during WW2 in order to safeguard themselves from the threat of the Soviets. From there on the nation keeps a pro-western policy until it decentralizes in the mid 1980s.

The history behind it is kinda fuzzy, and if I wished I would go back and write up something more realistic.

How has global warming affected Egypt?
In this timeline the sea level rises even faster, than it does in the real world, causing some vulnerable countries (such as Egypt) to take actions in order to minimize the losses. Unfortunately, sometimes it's hard to make things right...

I appreciate any language corrections you can make!

I like it.

So how did Italy united?

My entry done for Krall and his Telephone Map Game on AltHistoria: http://althistoria.proboards.com/thread/760/tmg-3-mars-back-again

Basically I was given a map without any real explanation as to what was going on and was supposed to make a map in response for someone else to look at and make a map based on mine. I then proceeded to get wildly carried away and made this entire thing out of my own ideas of what was going on in the world of the map I was given. I think it turned out pretty well, and I hope you all enjoy. This map was not intended to be a political statement so much as a reflection of our own current events.

A very basic sketch of the climates, using the excellently projected map provided by @Lowtuff, and some of the overlay maps from the original thread.

Blue circles are various kinds of cold climates, ice-caps, sea-ice, and tundra. Dotted blue circles are tundra-steppe.

Yellow circles are dry steppe and deserts (the Russian Desert is the worst). Orange circles are Mediterranean type.

Blue-green circles are temperate climates. The large green circle is the ancient and managed Saharan Forest. Green circles are tropical climates.

And then Siberia's mix of colors means it's a no rain desert with some permanent rivers, for almost the entire year, and then with sopping wet & blistering hot monsoons, every year, so not quite like anything on Earth. And Madagascar gets a cold monsoon, so also not like anything on Earth. And Antarctica is general tropical climates, full of microclimates everywhere.

I'm keeping the climates fuzzy in my mind, it's ASB so that's one free hand-wave. The next map will start a thread in ASB, where I'll compile the maps and text from this thread into one place.
