This moment when you already have done the same region on two titan-class worldmaps (MBAM and VBAM) and think about NOT ruining others' fun of mapmaking

"nah dun care" *starts making districts/municipalities*

Here is the requested population map for my Africa ISOT in 1944:

I know there are probably some major inaccuracies in Africa, but I hope you guys get the main idea.
Key:
Grey = No human habitation
Light Orange = Between 10 and 1,000 people per pixel (most areas outside of Africa are much closer to the 10 part of the spectrum than the 1,000)
Orange = Between 1,000 and 25,000 per pixel
Red = Between 25,000 and 100,000 people per pixel
"Major" cities outside of Africa (in order of size): London, Paris, Lisbon, Madrid, Berlin, Marseille, Bristol

I think the densities in the middle of the Congo jungle are pretty skewed, but everything else is on point.

I had an idea where the modern US is ISOTed to the old world, So I did a thing where I transposed 2000 municipalities from the lower 48 states onto positions in the Old World: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1kf1XnTZVUjwcpT7S6xIoQv_8944&usp=sharing

The map is searchable. Latitudes are exactly the same for all cities, but longitude is... funny. I tried to (1) preserve relative longitudes so that a city to the east would stay to the east and vice-versa, and (2) position cities so that they ended up in a place that's survivable and not in the middle of a desert or ocean. To that end I used a spreadsheet with the latitudes and longitudes of both old world cities and new world cities and did a bit of matching. However, my goals began to contradict each other and I ended up with some weird results, like some cities in Maryland being west of some cities in Iowa. Even so, the east coast is on the east coast and the west coast is on the west coast, and cities on water are not too far from land.

If I had to pick transposition areas for Alaska and Hawaii, I'd probably go with Scandinavia and the Caribbean, respectively. The Caribbean isn't in the old world, but then again Hawaii isn't in North America.

As an example, here is where my home city of Cleveland ended up, on the Macedonia-Bulgaria border:

The city on the upper right is Burbank, Illinois, which is decidedly not northeast of where I am.
The link to the map is broken, it gives me a 500 Server Error when I try to access it.

I wish I knew how to fix that. I got the same thing but when I accessed it from my account it showed the view counter continuing to go up, so it looks like some can view and some can't.

My guess would be that since there are 2000 data points, it takes more bandwidth than usual to serve and as a result either Google is throttling me or their server is just having issues with it.

Heart of darkness

Ladies and gentleman, I present to you second map of my dieselpunk series. This time, Empire of Japan. Please excuse bad english.

The year is 2111. In the country of the rising sun power belongs to the dogmatic authority of the Son of the Heavens, His Divinity Emperor Hirohito. All people of Japan - peasants, soldiers, scientists, generals – abase themselves before his majesty. And they shall abase to the end of their days – just like their children and children of their children will do, because the Emperor will never die.

When at the end of XX century His imperfect body was beginning to perish, smartest minds from all over Asia were brought to the Imperial Palace. This included physicians, mathematicians, engineers, biologists, medics, neurosurgeons.

Now the Emperor is no longer human. Only thing that’s left from previous Hirohito is nothing more but a brain and fragmentary nervous system connected to never-ending corridors of cold steel and electronics.

Emperor’s power is currently more religious than political in its nature. Only from time to time he serves as a kind of oracle, the higher instance to which some prominent persons in the Empire may appeal. Once he realized his godlikeness, the Emperor almost completely abstained from “mortal affairs”. These include things such as direct governance of the state, which now lies in hands of two competing factions – Imperial Japanese Navy and Imperial Japanese Army.

For the last couple decades the essence of Empire’s existence was war. Constant conquest, freeing different regions of Asia from white domination and at the same time subordinating them to Japan, was crucial for survival of imperial political and economic system. As long as the war was going on, there was legitimization for military junta that ruled the country with an iron fist. Rivalry between IJN and IJA was growing over time. Division of available resources and spoils of war was a question of national importance. Conflict achieved its zenith after the dead of prime minister Hideki Tojo, who had been able to somehow hold the consensus between the two vying factions. Currently each of the two intuitions has its representation on the peaks of oligarchic power and each has created its own “state within the state”.

Let me guess- on the rare occasions when the Emperor does involve himself in "mortal affairs" his pronouncement coincidentally agree with whatever the military leaders say.

Ya, is his brain actually still kept alive, just woithout enough communication with the real world to do anything or is he truly dead but the military claims to have kept him alive to avoid the problem of a new empoper who might meddle?

As much as I like the fact that more or less, you've done some work for me and I also highly appreciate that, I just want to point out that VBAM is more a sole project of myself and following I'd just really like to finish it myself before letting others freely use it.
I hope you can understand what I mean ^-^
Yea sure. I just needed a larger map of the Netherlands for a series of maps I have planned showing some extreme polderization. I posted it to this thread bc I figured you or others could use it. You're doing great work with the VBAM project, good luck on continuing that.

"While there were some food problems, the nation of Malta did surprisingly well for it's self. There was some tightening of belts, but they made it out of it and now by their 2214, they have begun colonizing and rebuilt the Vatican. We predict that this world will be relatively peaceful in the long run." - John Long, leader of the project.

civil war
"The Maltanese Government was overthrown in the coup of 2389 by the radical Communalist Party. They were exiled to North Africa and made a ceasefire deal with the new government. While in the west on the Iberian peninsula, the rebel state of "The Holy Malta Empire" broke into civil war between the pro-democracy faction in the south and the pro-theocracy in the north. The pro-theocracy faction is backed by the Papal State while the pro-democracy forces are backed by the Malta Government in Exile. The Communalist Republics of Malta have declared neutrality in the conflict, but are secretly supporting the pro-democracy faction in hopes they will eventually become communalist."

I wanted to test the gif/animation system in GIMP, so I threw together a BeNeLux ISOT and a Scottish ISOT. I don't really have a big backstory for either, but I can answer any questions on the two maps!

Wait, what gif system in GIMP? Are you telling me I could been making gifs ten times earlier just by using GIMP?
