TamrielISOT.png

Just a quick map I thought about when looking at various speculation of the scale of Tamriel in the Elder Scrolls games

To make it short, according to the TES I: Arena manual, Tamriel is roughly between the size of Australia and the US, This is the first "canon" scale of Tamriel and honestly the one that looks the best on an earth-sized planet.
There are a few others, Using the pocket guide of the empire one can find Tamriel to be roughly the size of Algeria (or Alaska), but IMO that's a bit small, individual Provinces would be the size of medium european countries. Using the out of game book The Infernal city gives an even smaller tamriel at about 1 million km², the size of egypt.
Kirkbride considers Tamriel to be about 30 million km², or the size of Africa, but honestly that seems to big compared to the described in game scale and the diversity (or lack of) of Tamriel, Africa is huge and I doubt any empire like the cyrodillic one could arise if it was that big.

Another Scale I like is the one shown in-game in Daggerfall, The Illiac Bay's landmass itself is about 205,000 km² large, which can be extrapolated to a Tamriel that is about 4.5-5 million km² large, roughly the size of the Indian Subcontinent, enough to have a variety of culture but also unified empires IMO, also vvardenfell is almost the same scale as the Shield of Olympus mons, which I find is neat.

Anyway Not much to say about this quick map, 4E201 Tamriel ISOT to the time of the first fleet in 1787, said fleet will probably get yeeted out of existence by some Telvanni Lord for disturbing him. Let's just say that the towers or some other magic keep the same climate, right? (Although it's not *that* far of, Skyrim is at the latitude of NZ's South island, while both have LOTR-esque landscape, parts of Elsweyr, Black Marsh and Valenwood are at the same latitude as Queensland's rainforest, the alik'r desert is near the Western australian desert, while the Illiac bay mediterranean-like coast are near perth).

So, just a really small reference map I have.

The Sasanian Empire's most important political families were the Seven Parthian Clans, descendants from Arsacid aristocracy which seem, according to new historical records, to have ruled in some form of confederacy with the Persian (southern) Sassanids, the ruling family.

There's a lot on confusion on the nature and location of these Houses, so I did a bit of a reference map that roughly delineates the areas of influence of each of the major houses.

Really nothing to be proud of, but I thought it might interest some people who are into Late Antiquity and have had problems (like me) understanding Sassanian politics.

This does look awesome. A very helpful map

If anyone wants to know more about the map, ask, I haven't defined the lore completely but I have managed to make a rough delineation of the map's world in my head
Sothos is inhabitable in this world, I'm guessing, or are those Brindled Men civilizations?

Ok, now I need to know the backstory to Columbia and whatever is that bit of land between the Brazilian Empire and Bolivaria.

Thanks for taking an interest in my map!

Well the world takes place within a "Californian Republic TL" that I had created on an account which has been lost to the aether - regardless I shall tell you the story of the Federal Republic of Columbia.

Columbia was once part of the core states of the old - Confederate States of America. As most would agree the economic future of said country was never pretty. The several wars between the United and Confederate America's only caused this to be exaggerated with the first war effectively splitting the country in two as the Mississippi River was occupied by the Union. Texas would leave the confederate states to form the 2nd Republic soon after.

The Columbia that is seen now however was born out of the "Confederate Civil War" in the early 1900's. The dictatorship was overthrown which allowed American values of liberty and freedom was installed into the broken nation. However, it still took decades for the horrors of slavery to start to ease however the 1960/70's did see a large improvement for the quality of life for Black Columbians which culminated in the first Black President in 1982.

As a nation they have close ties to the United States of America - even part of a free-trade block - however any previous attempts to marry the two nations together has been rejected by the people of Columbia. The people preferring to be able to chart their own nations path. Although there wasn't been any external wars within North America for almost 100years Columbia still find itself locking horns with it's southern neighbor of Florida every so often mostly over fishing zones and supposed occupied territory from either sides.

With the "nation" between Brazil and Bolivaria.

I am sorry to report that I have made a mistake with the map there. That is supposed to have been labeled and marked as occupied by Brazil.

The idea behind the Zone that following a conflict between the two nations it's a bunch of land that has not been transferred between the two nations. As the FB [Federation of Bolivaria] has been suspected of supporting pirate activities in the Caribbean - so too has Brazil been suspected of using that occupied territory to support drug operations in the area and infiltrating the FB.

Aftermath North America (2276) Names.png

The World of my Aftermath timeline. It is 2266, 200 Years since the war that ended the world as we know it. The world has changed since my last map. The UCA (The evolved version of the USA) has expanded across the wasteland reclaiming cities towards the empire of liberty. They had war many states, they're most prominent being the Confederacy. The Confederacy is near the brink of collapses as the Brotherhood (The independent military of the UCA) has crushed them on all sides. Meanwhile, the UCA has ended its war with New England who divided the new york wasteland. New England itself has also become a prominent nation, as they begin trading with the factions of America and even re-open world trade with the factions of the world. In Texas, The Texan's republic was overthrown and an autocratic state has been established by the "Emperor". Those who are loyal towards the republic founded the Lone star republic and called for aid from the UCA and te California. The Texas legion has advanced across Arizona towards California and the UCA brotherhood troops in Arizona. Meanwhile, California has become a prominent power expanding across the west coast. California has also become imperialist using its power to force tribes to join California or be killed. California has also been facing attacks by the Texas legion who are at war with each other. In north Cascadia has expanded south and north who have to enter conflict with California. In the midwest, The Unixt has advanced across the plains, assimilate Humans into Cyborgs, Robots or Physics or slaves. They begin fighting all those accepted for the mutant hordes who created an alliance to create a new human race. There are a bunch of small states but the most important is Oceania. Oceania is the unity of Australia and New Zealand has become a superpower and has created colonies in California.

Sothos is inhabitable in this world, I'm guessing, or are those Brindled Men civilizations?
Sothoryos is, in fact, inhabitable (I always found the deathworld that it is on the books both intriguing but also a bit boring), but is still dangerous (is less that if became less dangerous and more of a mix of the deathzones not being the entire continent and those who came managing to remain). On the matter of the brindled men, they are still there, and they are less the orc-like creatures of the books and are more like different humans (and some in fact look normal, the looks they are said to have are disguises and tribal clothing).

The north of the continent has civilizations mostly based from settlers and colonists from outside the continent (a Goggossi Empire, at the moment in a civil war so the brother-sister couple who rules it can decided who of them will have the pants on the marriage; the Zamoyos is made of Rhoynar states originally created by a grandson of Nymeria who ended up reestablishing the Rhoynar civilization in Sothoryos; successor states of the Sea-Jade Dynasty of Yi Ti... Also, wyvern point is ruled by a civilization of wyvern-riders, considered the "Dothraki of Sothoryos"). While the lands south of the lake on the middle of the Zamoyos are mostly native, although still interconnected with the peoples outside since the continent is less Australia and more Western Africa if it was made of rainforests.

i got a lot of influence from this, this and this so

basic premise is...
Africa rolls all sixes, and Europe is forced into multiple wars and is unable to be able to colonize Africa, paired with pressure from america, Britain and Brazil and the billing of the reservation of Africa. the remaining nations, Britain and america included, both have port cities along the coasts for trading and economic purposes.

-Ethiopia, morocco, and Egypt especially have all industrialized for the most part.
-communism is a rapidly growing ideology in west Africa
-a ideology called "social mahdism"also is flourishing, basically combining traditional Islam with political and economic socialism.
-this world's nasserism is especially popular in north Africa and Egypt
-Africa has become the worlds testing ground for new ideologies in a sense, with technocracy being implemented as well as European company interests going into deep Africa.
-a war between the old rulers of Africa, mainly monarchies and empires, against the new rulers, nationalists, communists, and republics has recently ended, and traditional monarchism has all but stayed.
-the Egyptian military has recently took power in Egypt after a coup d'eat and unauthorized invasion of Hejaz, similar to the Japanese empire's military government.
-both Africanism and apartheid like systems are being propped up by European powers

there will definitely be more then just a green world, trust me.

The battle of Warsaw was the greatest defeat for the western imperialists. The red flood, lead by Leon Trotsky of the RSFSR, descended upon the Poles and took the city, in the last cavalry battle in human history. They would not stop at the Vistula, or even at the borders of Poland, as they continued to march upon the tattered Weimar Republic to relieve the broken Spartacists from possible destruction at the hands of the old order. Flooding upon the broken remains of Berlin, a triumphant Rosa Luxemburg saw the red flag of the new Socialist Republic of Germany fly upon the remains of the Reichstag. The revolution had taken its second victim.

In the nations who had been part of the entente, there was much concern about what was to happen. The Soviets were already pressuring the Turks as their next target, using socialist policy as a bribe for getting the entente out of Anatolia. This titan staring down the new mandates in Anatolia, as well as a plausibly resurgent Germany (who was already preparing to incorporate Austria), was not the most calming thing to happen to the western powers. Their disarray in debates on how to deal with this sudden red threat was counterproductive, as several states soon fell to the new plague, such as Hungary, Czechoslovakia and even the Baltic states. Not even the death of Lenin and the sudden disappearance of Stalin (although almost no one put more than cursory investigation into the latter’s death) could stop Trotsky, as his place atop the people’s throne looked to be more powerful than any royal of London or President in Washington. The red behemoth stood atop the world, and this would not be challenged for the rest of the 20th century.

Lord knows, however, that people have tried.

The British were completely and utterly dumbfounded by the actions on the continent. The mainland was always unstable, but this red horde had swept to the borders of France in no time at all! The Soviets had their eyes on Iran and Arabia, too- endangering both the Suez and the Jewel of the empire. The people of the empire were going to need to sacrifice their newfound liberties, as the dominions were brought back into the fold as the new Federation of Imperial Commonwealths. Many of the Princely states were folded into the Commonwealth of India, which was essentially powerless compared to their Anglophone peers. Only an iron fist gripping the crown jewels could keep a hold on the restless Indians. India was safely British, but this military government strained the control over other parts of the world. The FoIC would not make it through the 20th century unscathed. Nobody enjoys colonisation, especially the Africans. Seeing what was happening in South Africa, many states instead chose to rebel against the Pink Menace, scoring victory after victory. Piece by piece, the British territory in Africa collapsed, with Rhodesia emulating South Africa, Egypt forming a new form of socialist thought (often called Socialism with Egyptian characteristics, or simply Nasserism), and East Africa forming a neutral confederation, hoping to stop either side from safely taking over Africa.

The French were now in an even worse position. With Italy’s fall to the Promethean league, a set of Left-Leninists led by one Amadeo Bordiga, and the fall of Iberia to the Syndicalist CNT-FAI, France was surrounded. Belgium was not to be much of use in a war, and the Swiss were too busy being neutral. This caused politicians to begin to see reforms in North Africa as healthy, however they took care not to give the People of Algeria any ideas. While much of the West African coast still rebelled, they were able to form a new (and absolutely not independent, this is the French in the 1930’s we’re talking about here) federation of semi-home rule to perhaps mean they wouldn’t see a collapse of the French Empire like what happened to the British in Africa.

The Americans had no care for the machinations of Europe. Imperialism was finally dying, they figured. Both the Republicans and Democrats agreed it was all about time that the Europeans left Africa (although segregation wasn’t going anywhere), but the real worry they had was the Soviets. There was a fairly high chance for the US to collapse in the style of Russia, they hadn’t particularly been kind to the unions. America needed to find a scapegoat, something they could use as a distraction to end the Red Menace once and for all.

The best target they had was Japan.

Japan had been ascendant since the end of the Great War, and by the time they had begun meddling in East Asia the Europeans had their own problems. But now, with the status quo finally settled, the Rising Sun appeared to have a target on its back. And by god, would people aim for it. Instantly taking advantage of the declaration of war Japan signed against the Republic of China, the Japanese had essentially signed their own death warrant as the Americans, followed suit by the British and the French, came to the aid of the Kuomintang, whereas the Soviets begrudgingly allied with Mao’s CCP. Together, the two powers met in secret in the pact of five, agreeing on how to split China, and to create some form of world order to stabilise the world. Neither side was particularly happy with this compromise, but it has lasted to this day. The Japanese were crushed, seeing the first nuclear bomb dropped on Tokyo buy the Soviets (leaving the Americans a tad angry, the pact had agreed the Japanese be united under the Americans), and the current status of the world emerge.

The Internationale has never been as unified as it was in those early days. The faction has split into Left (made up of Spain, Germany, and Italy), Centre (mainly made up of the USSR and its puppets), and Right (Egypt, the PRC, Arabia, etc.) sects, while a more authoritarian League of Free Nations maintains a more unified vision up to the start of the 21st century, even as more nations get home rule (as long as they don’t dare set up any form of minimum wage, or anything to stop the Americans from making money off of their newfound freedom. Humanity remains in the balance; however, one inconvenient gust of wind could see the entire house of cards collapse in an instant.

Looking good, though I'm not sure how Tunisia/Algeria could be portrayed as being stateless, unless you just haven't gotten around to filling it in?

Dang it. Danopomerania is such an excellent name. I would have liked a Danorwegian empire, but you take what you can get.

@Bob Hope it is almost a shame that you are doing an OTL map. I was looking forward to see what you did with Jülich-Cleves-Berg, Guelderland, and the Cologne War. Ahh well, you map will be extremely useful for people on here, especially those areas of the Papal States that used to be claimed and fought over by many.
Must admit, the thought had crossed my mind but I'm obsessed with trying to do the entire 16th century, god knows why!

A brave thing. Perhaps afterwards you could try a maps showing the Wittlesbasch, Wettin, and Habsburg control over the appointments of Prince-Bishoprics.

Wow, I don't think I could survive that!!!
Yes, I suppose it would vary a lot. In the one of the Cambridge Historical Atlas they needed two maps to show it at different times. Still, after the Cologne War you get Liege, Munster, Westphalia, Cologne, and several other places all under one guy. It is a useful way to show alliances on maps, but... Hmmm. Come to think of it, that one guy was not actually an ordained priest anyways. Still, mentioning when a person becomes a Prince-Bishop of multiple places probably wouldn’t be out of place on the maps writeup, but only because of how it would tie into wars, like the issue with Utretch, Cologne, etc.

Interesting, i'll look into it, thanks

I'm trying my hand at alt-historying for an eventual CK3 mod.

Rome was stillborn, and Alexander of Macedon (who miraculously was not butterflied away) went on to conquer as he did IOTL. While circumnavigating Arabia on his way to conquer Carthage, he fought some Bedouins and experienced a spiritual revelation that had him turning back towards Mesopotamia and settling in for a nice long rule. When death by old age drew near, he wandered off to India to become an ascetic, never to be seen again.

I made some changes. Unspecified conditions in China drew much of the proto-Turkic peoples eastward instead of west, resulting in a quieter pontic steppe and a slavic ethnogenesis that saw far more input from increasingly sedentary Iranic tribes. Once in awhile a tribal confederation would smash into Central Asia and North India, but there was none of the massive migratory waves as seen IOTL. That changed ITTL with the recent movement of Yeniseian peoples, themselves driven by Tungusic harassment (Jurchens, maybe?).

Druwidos - Caste-based, ossified, and losing ground to the Hellenic religions that provide far easier paths to a favorable rebirth (or an escape from the cycle altogether).
Forn Si'r - Traditional Germanic faiths.
Suomenusko - Traditional Uralic faiths.
Starivery - Traditional Slavic faiths.
Hamuni - Once polytheistic, now entirely centered around the worship of Baal Hammon. It's the odd one out in a Mediterranean dominated by faiths that are both polytheistic and accepting of reincarnation.
Oikoumene Dharme - A wide swath of traditions that draw from local pantheons, traditional Dharmic religions, and Hellenic philosophy. The discriminating factor between this grouping and the other Dharmic traditions is their uniting belief that Alexander Megalos is a Buddha, a diety, or otherwise worthy of worship.
Sramana Dharma - Jainism, Buddhism, and Vedic traditions.
Bon - Traditional Tibetan faiths, collected under this slightly-anachronistic term.
Yehudi - Judaism.
Al-mu-minin - Traditional Arabian faiths.
Tengricilik - Shamanistic, pantheistic steppe faiths.
Khwarenah - A monotheistic religion that draws heavily from the largely-extinct Mazdan religions. People have one life in which to find and fulfill the purpose God has laid out for them, after which they are consigned to the afterlife they've earned through their actions. Reincarnation and foreign deities are lies and demons that threaten to condemn one to hell for eternity. Fire and water play significant symbolic roles.
Kel Tagelmust - A gnostic(?) faith born from punicized Berbers that recognizes the existence of multiple good creator Gods and one evil destructive force (often identified with Hammon). Draws on Dharmic faiths in a superficial manner - there is no Nirvana, enlightenment, or escape from the cycle of rebirths. Worshipers can achieve favorable rebirths by several means, though different sects will emphasize different paths. All faithful agree that the best way is to act in accordance with the divine plan laid out by the Gods. By doing so, one may eventually be reborn as a God, and join in crafting the divine plan.
Harikanne/Boorii/Dunyabatteh/Oferi/Waaqeffanna - Traditional Sub-Saharan African faiths.
