It's not even funny how small the max file size is on this site. Anyway here's my latest map. Check it out on DeviantArt for some more pixels.
Oddly, before zooming in I was thinking of a mistake I keep seeing people make were Croatia is called Croatia-Slavonia even when they have Dalmatia. Despite how IOTL they claimed Dalmatia in their own name for the Triune Kingdom. Seems it happened here as well if you do do edits I would suggest going with Triune Kingdom for that area, as Croatia-Slavonia-Dalmatia is rather impractical. And the max file size on this website isn't so bad. Your map is simply larger that ones I have seen on the 1632 website detailing ever single border in the Holy Roman Empire from the day of the Ring of Fire. And I can't help but feel there are far more borders within the Rhine Monarchy than in Austria. How do you see the Rhine and Danube Monarcheis here? One union or seperate? And how they end up with Corsica? Also, I feel that Württemberg might not have went around to changing their name to Swabia. It could have been a bit of a claim on some Bavarian land and possibly some from Baden and Switzerland. I also feel the Franconian parts of Bavaria might not have been Austrian here, since they went to Hollzerons IOTL, even if not the main branch. I also think Rhineland might be too simply a name and boundary area, plus a lot of the states were on both sides of the river, or at least the rulers had possessions on both sides. Westphalia is also a bit iffy. But then, I can only imagine the weeks it would take for you to research, think up, and plot down changes for practical boundaries for the rest of Germany. I very much like how the French have Luxembourg and how you didn't go with our modern boundary for other places in the area.

I imagine the war will be fought using a lot of these.

I have… no words for this image or its source, much like your own. I just love the idea of a gun that shoots bullets that are large enough to have their own hangar bays in them. He also made bigger ones…

Using reverse image search: apparently it was part of a project called "United Superweapons" on the SpaceBattles forum. The creators are apparently Buugipopuu and Phantom Llama.

Yes, Rabin was still assassinated.

Social media and the internet are almost the same as OTL, no great firewall on China. VK and Weibo do not exist. Telegram is a competitor of WhatsApp. The world is even more interconnected.

Three more questions;

What has happened to the Philippines ITTL? Is there still a mass killing of drug dealers going on? Ditto for Myanmar and it’s Muslim population.

Has anything significant happened to American/Western popular culture due to the PoD and butterflies? Also what about Bollywood and Chinese movies?

How is Central America doing? With two canals and all.

I don’t mean to bother you with so many questions. I really like this map and it’s story, maybe somebody should make a TL of it!

Long story short, this is an old idea for an alternate South Africa that I had previously posted when I was new to the site. I had previously posted it on DeviantArt, but decided that it was natural I posted it on this site as well.

I may reuse some older ideas from this to create alternate versions of both the Boer Republics and Rhodesia, as part of a greater TL I hope to produce one day.

UPDATE: Replaced second flag. The original can be found here:

https://althistory.fandom.com/wiki/Flags_of_South_Africa

What’s the POD for this?

A final version of this map, now with names for each state! I promise I will get around to posting a world map of this some day :coldsweat:
The basic premise is socialist revolutions sweep the west in 1968-1979, with the revolution in America being lead by Fred Hampton's Rainbow Coalition which expands onto a national scale as the Revolutionary Coalition for Liberation (RCL) incorporating the SDS and AIM as well as MLK's Poor People's Movement along the way. I am opening to answering any questions!

Turco-Greecian Sultanate of Rum - 1432

rCZBdwn.jpg

[r/ImaginaryMaps] | [DeviantArt]

Descriptions

The year is 1432, decades after the Mongols faced a disastrous blunder in the fields of Kösedağ. The Sultanate of Rum stands high and mighty across the two known worlds, boasting its glory across all of its neighbors - both Muslims and Christians.

Searching for opportunities to merge the legacy of the Romans into their own, they committed themselves into years of systematic migration and assimilation. The cultures of both the Turks and Greeks have merged together into creating a new cultural epoch for the Sultanate; branding themselves as the successors of the Caesars while committed to spreading the Prophet’s words. The intermingling of Turkish and Greek language emerged from this endeavor and their patronage has paved the way for a new syncretic architecture.

Adopting the terrifying power of gunpowder, the Turks used this power to carve their empire into their whim, striking fear against the crusaders squabbling over the Levant and seizing the Balkans in less than ten years. Christians slaves of the Danube we’re brought into the Anatolia to train them under the way of the sword and guns, molding them into powerful guards loyal to the Sultan. Cannons were forged and the fortress was built, flexing their might against anyone that stands between their ambitions.

The Beyliks, appointed by the sultan, govern the provinces and making sure the process of tax collection is at ease. Responsible for the health of their respective lands, they develop the empty lands and ushered it into another productive community of the empire. While some are appointed relatives, most are slaves; trained not only in the arts of the sword but also in the pen.

Trade and industry prospered under the Sultanate. People across the known globe, from the traders of Zanzibar to the emissaries of Cathay, millions of strangers flocked to the City of the World - Konstantiniyye, to trade their rare goods for our own. Workshops are set and guilds are formed to keep their trade a secret; producing a variety of goods ranging from porcelain to matchlocks.

All empires; from the Turco-Persian empire of the Ilkhanate to the mighty Danes, paid tribute to the Turks with either gold of gifts. Mighty kingdoms such as Ajuuraan and Oman brought exotic animals into the court, bewildering the Sultan with a creature so alien that they could eat the leaves from a tree with their long neck and horses that covered with black-and-white stripes.

While the Emirate of Sicily looks towards north to begin their next conquest and the Byzantine exiles of Theodosia begin to push towards the unknown frontiers of the Slavs, Rum seems to content for the time being; relishing under the prosperity they have brought for years to come.

Turco-Greecian Sultanate of Rum - 1432
--- A Follow-up ---

Believe or not, I've been working on two other projects before designing this one. It was one of the most infuriating wastes of time I've ever committed myself to, mostly because it doesn't really achieve anything I desired it to be. The first project is about Makhno, the topography is beautiful but I can't make it merge with the abstract that well. The second project is something about a greek rump state under Ottoman suzerainty... and that one sucked. Anyway, let's talk about my attempt to replicate authenticity.

I'm aware someone replicated this kind of style before I did, YNot1989 and ToixStory attempt to replicate the texture of hardcover paper but they usually plaster some texture on top of it from what I've observed (no offense, btw). But I've learned to achieve this process is more than just that, especially when half-tones is a thing and making something authentic out of a digital screen is hard to accomplish.

Trying to find the right method was hard at first, mostly because I don't really know the terminology for it. I just googled "How to Make Print Paper Dots" or anything that sounds like a haiku. It wasn't until someone pointed out halftones that I get the results and the tutorials are relatively easy, especially for someone who wasted his spare time on designing weird and esoteric shit. Yu those little dots that cover most of the sea, those are the halftones. It works well with the color scheme without being too drab, adding some grime to make it work.

Another problem is to add some grains and this is where the necessary evil comes in. Textures, while kinda lazy to some extent, is probably the most useful assets to achieve authenticity. But at the same time, I don't want it to look like a smudge on the screen. Thus, I tried balancing it by merging two different textures and do some fine-tuning with the opacity and hues.

Anyway, that's it for now. I'll probably extend this diatribe into a journal entry, where I explain the reasons why I made this in the first and how I achieved it.

Outstanding map!

I should note though that you can upload your map to another host, like imgur, and copy and paste it to here. That way it keeps the high definition.
Though definetly best that he also put a smaller one here and, more importantly, linked to DeviantArt. Ahhh, the amount of timelines on other sides and on here that are torn apart by the images having long vanished.

For some reason hosting an image through imgur and embedding it here has never worked for me - it’s always an image icon with a red X

Imgur is pretty reliable if you have an account and you can copy and paste from DeviantArt as well, though it sometimes compresses the image when you do that.

Don't embed just copy and paste.

I find the mere concept of this to be absolutely terrifying. Multiversal eldritch empires, capable of fielding armies that consist of entire universes. For scale, just one of these directly aiming for humanity would be like if the collective energy of our whole universe was brought to bear against a single atom.
Lovecraftian horror is truly a delight isn't it?

One of Philip Jose Farmer's SF novels had that as a theme - the entire universe as we know it being one cell of a cosmic being. Unfortunately, all those spaceships passing through hyperspace were essentially poking holes in the cell walls, and had triggered an immune response...
That sounds quite interesting, what was the story called?
