So im considering a doomsday map like i previously made. Should this doomsday be before, during or after the nukes?

I tried making a map kind of in a style like that in a school book for a timeline I'm working on where all the British colonies join the Revolution as well as some Amerindian tribes.
Feel free to ask any questions about this I worked a while on this.
Iroquois? As in, a state for the Iroquois who joined the revolution, or merely a new state named after the people (like OTL Iowa)?

A Louisiane with those borders would probably go for la Nouvelle-Orléans or Saint Louis. Not Baton Rouge.

Got approval to post a map request here. Yet another Kaiserreich map, except this time one of the world as of January 1936:

First time making a map with QGIS, so do bear with me if there's some problem details I left out. City names are also kinda eh, the deadline wasn't as kind with them as it was with the borders lol

Higher resolution version of the map won't be available for quite some time yet, but KR team will have one for display this PDXCon.

Hope you enjoy.

Good map, but isn't it kinda weird that Chinese warlord states are shown on a serious world map? They would rather show the internationally recognzed government.

cyberpunk map1.png

This is my attempt to create a cyberpunk world that isn't just OTL but with bionic arms. It is not necessarily realistic.

The year is 2020. In the early 1970s, the Yom Kippur War expanded across the Middle East, causing the fracturing of the Arab World. After Iraq joined the war on the Syrian and Egyptian side, Iran declared war on Iraq, and the war became an attrition-driven quagmire for both sides. The Khuzestan Front devolved into trench warfare with widespread use of chemical weapons in an effort to break the stalemate. All the while, petroleum prices continued to rise around the world. The Arab coalition finally agreed to a peace settlement in 1978, as Egypt had left the war the previous year due to Israeli forces occupying the Suez Canal, and al-Assad and al-Bakr feared popular uprisings in their countries if the war continued. The result of the peace settlement was status quo ante bellum. In the aftermath of the war, Syria and Iraq joined forces more closely, out of the belief that Egypt had gotten off too easily and was drifting too close to the American sphere. They also restricted their petroleum exports, causing the energy crisis to persist despite some improvement.

Seeking solutions to the energy crisis, some countries turned to nuclear energy as a solution to their problems. Due to their dense populations, China and Japan made the shift quickly. The United States nuclear industry lagged behind, causing their economy to suffer a depression in the 1980s. After the collapse of the Warsaw Pact and the bombing of Yugoslavia, NATO dissolved in 2002 when the European Union became a political union. The shift toward nuclear energy from petroleum meant that electricity was hard to come by outside of areas with a nuclear reactor. Small town and rural areas emptied out to escape from rolling blackouts and unreliable utilities. To compensate, Canadian and American oil companies and British Petroleum merged into Ecotec, a megacorp designed to exploit whatever oil reserves they can obtain. Cities around the world experienced population booms, which came with a rise in unemployment and crime. The other American megacorp is Impulse, an enormous entertainment company formed from the merger of Disney and Sony.

The energy crisis gave the Soviet leadership the motivation to reform the country's political and economic system. First, Gromyko allowed for economic liberalization but cracked down on political reformers, like Yeltsin. Later, Gorbachev also introduced limited political liberalization, including the toleration of multiple political parties (only those approved by the General Secretary, of course) and acceptance of (a heavily censored version of) the internet. Today's USSR, under Alexander Lukashenko, has halted any further reforms after the 2011 Moscow Spring and looks back to the Gromyko and Brezhnev years for inspiration.

In the early 1990s, the Warsaw Pact crumbled and the USSR nearly dissolved. The communist governments in Poland, Czechoslovaka, and Hungary were overthrown, while Romania, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia remained under communist rule. In the case of Romania, Nicolae and Elena Ceauscu were deposed by the KGB in order to preserve communism, and in the case of Bulgaria, multiple parties were permitted, much as Gorbachev had allowed in the USSR. Yugoslavia crumbled in the 1990s, leaving a Serbian, Montenegran, and Macedonian core under a nominally socialist government. Due to NATO bombing raids against the Yugoslavs during the Bosnian War of Independence, Yugoslavia is more zealously pro-Soviet than ever.

With the decline of the United States and USSR, new global powers arose to contest them. These included Japan, China, India, the European Union, the United South American Nations, and the African Union. Japan pioneered in workplace automation, and the electronics and aerospace industries. Japan has carved out a small sphere of influence in the Asia-Pacific region, including East Timor and Malaysia. Their economic miracle continued into the twenty first century, and is only now beginning to show signs of stopping. In 2019, Japan launched its second space station from the Okinawa elevator (the more common word for cosmodrome), and has a mission to orbit the moon scheduled for 2022. Japan is the home of the Nyle megacorp, which is a delivery service, auto manufacturer, robotics manufacturer, and film and animation studio. The company has purchased concessions in Borneo, Papua, and Sulawesi for resource extraction and use of cheap foreign labor.

China has adapted well to the world of megacities and megacorps, and has become a global power in its own right. China's sphere of influence has grown to include its African proxy states, such as Angola, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Eritrea, and most Southeast Asian countries. An exception to the Chinese sphere is the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, which has shifted over to be allied to the United States. In 2017, a trade dispute between China and Vietnam became an actual war, and the United States intervened to help the Vietnamese government. The USSR also sent advisors to the Vietnamese to forestall Chinese expansion in the region. The US and China are technically not at war, but trade has ceased between the two countries. Security analysts warn that the conflict could boil over into the whole region, dragging China and America into direct conflict. The Chinese government controls state-owned enterprises who own concessions in Myanmar, Angola, and Australia. The Myanmar concession produces rice for domestic consumption and opium, which was previously for sale to the United States pharmaceutical industry; The Angolan concession produces oil; and the Australian Concession is used for manufacturing.

India also possesses a sphere of influence containing Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. The Emergency in India dragged on until the military overthrew Indira Gandhi's civilian government in a coup, martial law was revoked, and the generals set up a new civilian government based on the ideas of Vedic Republicanism. In practice this was a revocation of the rights of non-Hindu Indians, who began to be treated as second class citizens. India has a severe crime problem prompted by the growing wealth gap, and its growing metallurgical and chemical industries have drawn people into squalid conditions in slums. Some Indian land has been corporatized, and is owned by the Laxmico conglomerate, which was formed as an explicitly Hindu Nationalist megacorp from a merger of India's industrial companies by decree in the early years of the Vedic Republic.

The European Union adopted more central control in 2002, leading to the breakdown of NATO. The "New European" states of the former Warsaw Pact have been forbidden to join the EU by the treaty ending the Warsaw Pact, but are definitely aligned toward the EU in their politics and economies. East Germany is a special case, in that it voted against rejoining West Germany in a referendum after it gave up communism. East Germany is now a nationalistic state that claims to uphold "real German" traditions in the face of the West. The main megacorp operated out of Europe is Vulcan Industrial Solutions, which produces industrial machinery, robots, consumer appliances, and military equipment.

The United South American Nations formed in 2004 as a response to and rejection of the growth of megacorps, and as a currency union and military alliance for South American states. It originally included all states on the South American continent, but nationalist governments in Colombia, Argentina, and Chile suspended their membership, claiming that Caracas was undermining their national sovereignty.

The African Union is similar to the South American Union with regard to its rejection of megacorps, and its desire to spur the development of African states. The African Union is an outgrowth of Qaddafi's Third International Theory, especially the ideas of self-sufficiency and direct democracy. The headquarters of the African Union was originally in Benghazi, but was moved to Kinshasa when the Democratic Republic of the Congo assumed leadership of the organization. Sudan was expelled from the organization for its behavior in Darfur and South Sudan, and Morocco and Botswana never joined. There are some corporatized regions in the AU, but in general they were corporatized by their own governments instead of being sold to a foreign megacorp.

On the map, countries nominal GDPs are given in trillions of US dollars, population density is given in people per square kilometer, and annual megacorp revenue is given in billions of US dollars. Green on the orbit map indicates private satellites and stations, not African Union owned ones. Credit goes to Sirion 101 for the basemap

This is a map of Iberic Peninsula divided in Sisters Republics during French Revolution, in a TL where the French Army have invaded a good part of Spain and the Spanish Bourbons and the Portuguese Royal Family flees to America.
