Would you say Georgia has any chance of switching from orange to white in the foreseeable future?

Would you say Georgia has any chance of switching from orange to white in the foreseeable future?
Unlikely, but not impossible. Its share has increased from a low of 2.2% in 1960 to 3.1% in 2010, expected to increase to 3.3% in 2020. In 2050, that number is supposed to be around 3.8% and still rising, but the hurdle it needs to clear is 4.052%.

map based off the conclusion of a Victoria 2 CWE game i played last week, i played an aggressively expansionist US focused on reclaiming Eastern Europe from the Soviets. i started out by successfully intervening in the Chinese civil war and intervened in basically everything the Soviets tried to do. this ended up in a united Germany by 1970, thicc Poland and democratic, NATO member Yugoslavia.

other peculiarities of the game:
-i ended up with a population around 550 mil in 1995, obviously the US then is still nowhere near that
-LA was the largest city in the world at around 28 mil inhabitants
-Newfoundland and Labrador never united with Canada for some reason, possibly bc they were in my SoI
-one day in around 1953 Korea just spontaneously decided to unite itself as a democratic republic, no input from me or the Soviets
-during the Chinese civil war i decided to create international settlements in Shanghai, Qingdao and Weihaiwei and ended up annexing them bc of a bugged independence event so my total population is around 3% chinese. kmt never did shit about it lol
-i still own the Phillippines, they never rebelled against me or anything
-mauritania got INSANE immigration from around 1970 onward for some reason, it had a population of like 10mil by 2000 and about 1/3rd was Indonesian. no clue why
-despite america being like 2x larger in population than it was OTL, the total population is only around 6 billion (i assume bc game engine restraints)
-last thing i did in-game was get in a war with Indonesia in 1998 bc of an "Embassy Attacked" event, i'd probably assume that was this universe's 9/11. the war is still going as of my last save

the largest war in the game and the closest thing to WW3 was probably the Polish conflict about from 1979 to 1985. it was around 3 wars combined, first the Polish had a civil war resulting in a nationalist coup, then i invaded them to install democracy, then the Soviets invaded them to reclaim their territory. the savegame analyzer says the casualties are around 3.6 million on both sides, and it resulted in the soviets getting stomped by NATO + Republican China + Japan. the soviet union collapsed around 1999 or so and that's when i stopped playing.

other stuff i've gleaned from the savegame analyzer:
my america is a pretty damn good place to live. poor strata basic needs are like 90% fulfilled, the middle class's luxury needs are largely being met and this is all being funded by high taxes on the rich strata. the unemployment rate is at an astonishingly low 0.63% too. using irl GDP values from 1995, i'll say 1 Vic2 euro = 355.128205128 USD. this puts the american GDP in 2000 at 20.31 trillion.
average prices of some basic goods:
-a computer is $3178.39 (Computers)
-a pack of cigarettes is $20.73 (Cigarettes)
-a can of Coke is $4.73 (Beverages)
-an average beer is $1.91 (Liquor)
-a pair of nice shoes is $277.96 and a nice shirt is $171.11 (Clothing, Clothing and Footwear)
-international calling rate to Europe is $0.09/min (Communications)
-the price of a barrel of oil is $48.28 (Petroleum)
-average tuition per year is $17,040 a year (Education)
-your average utilities bill is around $190.80 a month (Heating & Electricity)
-gold is $1277.99 an ounce (Gold)
-1.00 SDR = 1.26 USD (Credit Money)
i calculated these values w/ the value of goods in Vic2's in-game economy and the conversion rate between the in-game currency and the irl US dollar. the goods i used are in parentheses next to the value

Which, for reference, would be at about 14-16 million people, which would necessitate a ~50% growth spurt in Georgia.

Looks like a dystopian hellhole to me. Take a look:
  • a can of Coke is $4.73 (Beverages)
  • an average beer is $1.91 (Liquor)
With non-alcoholic beverages nearly 2.5x the price of alcohol, that’s a nation of drunkards. They’re just puttering along in a state of buzz thinking their lives are good. They don’t notice the price of goods skyrocketing…
a pair of nice shoes is $277.96 and a nice shirt is $171.11
…and they’re numb to the fact that communism won the Cold War. Never mind that the country is so overpopulated that they’re all stuffed into light-watching jobs…
the unemployment rate is at an astonishingly low 0.63% too.
…because “our glorious society has full employment” and they have hyperinflation worse than OTL.
-gold is $1277.99 an ounce

It’s a neat scenario, and it shows some of the limitations and brokenness of that Vicky II mod (I like it, myself). Wish Vicky III wasn’t going to be Manafest 2: And You Thought EU IV Was Too Dependent On Mana

Anyway, I like it. It’s always fun to see people write up stories about their strategy game playthroughs.

These are the two possible outcomes of *World War II in The Great War - a TL 191 map game.
Only the first one is canon, and currently, the biggest powers of the game are Britain, Germany and Russia, closely followed by Japan, the United Socialist States (USS) in Western Europe and Free France.

Basically: World War I is won by the CSA, and a socialist state is created in the Americas. Spain, Italy and Austria also go red and unite. Meanwhile, Germany finds an ally in Russia after its own red revolution was crushed - and thus, defeated *Weimar Germany (though still under the Kaiser) could rise again.
Who was not here to stay was the CSA - civil wars and revolutions tore them apart, and as the UK did not want to see every part of the former US go red, they supported Texan, Louisianan, and Chihuahuan separatists among others. The CSA was soon limited to Cuba, Florida, Suriname and Togo (both of which they gained after World War I). These were originally several governments, but they soon reunited into one CSA under (fictional) Virgil Staelendorp as POTCS.

World War II erupted because of remilitarisation of the Rhineland, and originally, it was France - UK - Portugal et al. vs. Germany - FSA - USS - Russia et al., but France quickly fell (to the USS) and, when Britain focused on America to fight the socialists, Germany and Russia made peace with Britain. And now, they have fought against the socialists - and restored the US, among other things! In the end, Cincinatti was nuked.

Anybody is invited to join us! We desperately need new players!

I have called the alternate outcome (Britain does not make peace with Germany, and instead, the Germans, Russians, and communists finish the UK off) Anfield Road after the place of the first large strike of British workers, Anfield Road in Liverpool. The Anfield Road Uprising became famous as it kickstarted the British civil war after Bristol and Sheffield were nuked.

I'm unsure, but I think a barrel of oil might be similar to, or cheaper than, a can of soda, given the volume,

The known world of ASOIAF, set right before the start of the series.

NOTE: I've kept Westeros colored Targaryen red just to make political distinctions more clear. If this map were used for a game or TL that started right around 297AC, then I'd recommend changing the Targaryen red to Baratheon yellow.

BTW, this is a resized map of Vylinus’ excellent map of Planetos on Deviantart.

Basemap is mine (rivers, shapes of the world and continents, etc was made 7 years ago by me), and about 80-90% of the political and cultural borders come from him. I’ve resized his original world map to fit the standard ASOIAF map sizes and redrew everything else by hand to make it fit.

Check his stuff out!

Russian_Balkanization.png

The balkanization of the Soviet Union from Calbear's The Anglo-American/Nazi War. After the Nazis held control over Europe for almost 30 years, the USSR descended into civil war once the Third Reich collapsed. By the end, all the constituent republics broke off, with Ukraine split in half and Russia proper split in three. In the west is the Russian Tsarist Republic, a constitutional monarchy built along English lines and recognized successor of Nazi-Occupied Russia, and was headed- albeit without any real power- by Andrei Alexandrovich.

The rump Soviet Union, based in the bombed-out husk of Krasnoyarsk, occupies most of Siberia and is little more than a horribly impoverished warlord state.

In the east is West Alaska, a territory and later state formed by an American occupation force at the request of its own people. In what became the most bruising legal battle since Reconstruction, the U.S. agreed to grant the appeal made by the region, though only by a single vote. The territory was gradually reconstructed, "Americanized," its people taught English, and heavily defended as attempted incursions were made by Soviet and even Chinese forces. It became the 51st state in 1978.

Here is 1918 which is the start of another map game I played with myself. Not sure how world reached this stage. But I did get it done up to 2019.

This is 2019 and I can explain how the map got there from the 1918 map above.

So I have this Timeline, an ATL of that timeline starting 1933 and an ATL of that TL starting 1981. The third one was created mostly by accident. Actually so was the second one but I was aware of its existence and kept it going consciously. Anyway that's not why I am writing this. The reason is that there is an EU analogue in all these TLs. That organisation in the original 1918TL is what I was calling "Post Soviet Cooperation Organisation" because it was made up of ex-SSRs for first 5 years and even after that it only consisted of Soviet puppets and SSRs. Candidate members are the remaining Eurasian socialist regions with some exceptions [PR. China, Chinese puppets, Korea, Denmark (due to the return of the Taiwan-like Government in Exile) and members of the Cairo Pact/Arab League]. I am still not sure of the name. I made a map of the evolution of this organisation.

Member States are:
the Founders being the Visegrad Group and Romania. The post-2012 members being the Baltic nations, Finland and the restored Swedish and Norwegian monarchies (conquered early 50s, became independent 40 years later). 2015 members Germany (Communist rule begin in early 50s, Austria joining Germany in 73, Prussian SSR combined with Germany in 91, democratizing in 96) and former Yugoslavia (Yugoslavia democratizing in 95, Bulgaria and Slovenia gaining independence in 91 (Bulgaria had joined Yugoslavia in 73)). 2016 members included restored Switzerland (Soviet puppet in 1955, French puppet in 1977, Fully restored to pre-1955 system (neutrality, Canton system) in 1987), Italy (Communist North in 1938; annexation of Naples in 1944; Papacy and San Marino annexed in 48; South Tyrol, Sardinia, Corsica and Monaco annexed in 54; Sicily stopped being a British puppet in 68; Monaco is annexed by France in a minor war in 1984; Italy democratized in 1990; Sicily reuniting with Italy next year), Montenegro (annexed by Yugoslavia in 1930, became socialist in 44, became independent in 1993), Albania (annexed by Italy 1930, Ottoman occupation 1936, Puppet in next year, Soviet occupation 1943, puppet next year, Democratized 1992) and Greece (Ottoman puppet 1931, Soviet occupation 1943, Puppet next year, Democratized 1992). In 2017 Spain (Spanish Civil War started in 1922 and ended in 1924, becoming a Soviet puppet in 1927, Democratizing in 88) and Portugal (Occupied in 51, Communist government established in 1954, at the same time Kingdom of Africa was established (Government in Exile), Portugal democratized in 87) joined. The Turanic Council (evolution of this organisation is a separate story. All members but Turkey were former SSRs) joined PSCO as one in 2019 and still exists as a more integrated open borders, customs union, mutual defense treaty that is more of a Confederation like OTL European Union (actually closer) (especially since PSCO is very careful in not being a confederation as a way of avoiding a new Soviet Union). Candidates for membership are Belarus, Ukraine, Russian Federation, Georgia, Armenia, Afghanistan and Iran (Iran and Afghanistan were not SSRs and democratized in 1989-1990; Armenian, Azeri and Iranian borders were reorganized in 1973; Iran became a full Soviet puppet in 56, Afghanistan in 1960; Soviet influence was extended into Iran in 1948).

cont. from my previous post. what's happening on the other side of the world.

lore copypasted from my reddit post (including lore for the previous map in this series (long):
the first NATO intervention against communism in Europe was the First Yugoslav War in 1952, prompted by (dubious) reports of the Tito regime's brutality. the Yugoslav state, still recovering from occupation during World War 2 was quickly overrun and "democratized". the first war directly against the Soviets was the American intervention in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. America secured an independent, non-communist Hungary and Czechoslovakia at the expense of Soviet pride. a decade later, the German War began and after 2 years of war resulted in the Soviets being routed once again and the reunification of Germany in 1970.

finally, the Polish Wars (1979-1985) were the final nail in the coffin for the Warsaw Pact. a successful (but bloody) nationalist revolt in Poland in 1979 resulted in a junta taking control, prompting NATO intervention. the intervention secured democracy in Poland, but enraged the Soviets. the Soviets invaded in 1981 and while they enjoyed initial success, NATO-led strategic bombing crippled the Soviet war machine fatally. this war was the closest the world got to a true third world war; the 1983 nuclear missile false alarm incident involving the Soviet early-warning system was prevented by one man, Stanislav Petrov, stopping a potentially fatal retaliatory attack.

by 1985, the Soviets had lost a large swathe of land to the revanchist Polish state and had been forced to release their grasp on the Baltic states and Finland. by this time, the only remaining European states in the Warsaw Pact were Romania and Bulgaria. the Soviet Union stood alone.

the economic devastation following the Polish War kneecapped the Soviet Union severely. however, the final leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev (1985-2000), moved towards reconciliation with the West. his domestic policy advocated expansion of political rights for the average citizen and attempted to democratize the one-party state. his efforts brought the Soviet Union back from the total defeat it had suffered in the Polish Wars at the cost of its ideological purity. Gorbachev's reforms prolonged the Soviet state until the turn of the millennium, when his government allowed self-determination for all Soviet republics. over the course of 1999, former Soviet republics slowly broke away from the mother country. the final republic to secede officially was the Republic of Mongolia, on January 4th, 2000. Declaration 152-H, issued January 7th, 2000, officially declared the Soviet Union to cease to exist as a state. legal continuity was devolved to the Republic of Russia.

now to go back to Asia, the subject of the original post (lol), the Indonesian war of independence was significantly bloodier and longer. the Dutch stubbornly held onto every foothold they could find, and when they were facing defeat, they created the state of Indonesia Timur as a method to continue power projection in Indonesia. during the late stages of the war of independence, modern Islamist ideas crystallized in Aceh. Sekarmadji Maridjan Kartosuwiryo, an Acehnese revolutionary, penned many of the first text of the Wahhabist revival. while his group, the Negara Islam Indonesia (more commonly referred to as Darul Islam) failed to gain traction in its time, its ideas persisted.

the Indonesian war of independence ended in 1962 with the reunification of East and West Indonesia and the total retreat of all Dutch troops from the nation. the law system of the new nation drew influence from classical Islamic law while remaining nominally secular. neo-Wahhabist groups gained traction in the tumultuous political landscape of post-war Indonesia, and by the mid-1970s they had attained power in posts across the nation. a popular revolt against the president Suharto, widely unpopular, pro-western and oft-regarded as a pseudo-dictator, occured in 1979. neo-Wahhabist groups galvanized the Indonesian people against Suharto's regime, and overthrew and exiled him to India. the Islamic Republic of Indonesia was declared by national referendum on July 1st, 1979.

the theocratic rule of the Islamic Republic (henceforth referred to as the Negara) was deeply intertwined with Darul Islam, which had grown into a sort of paramilitary group. DI functioned as a sort of combined secret police and intelligence agency for the Negara, and enjoyed government funding. they would impose government-compliant dress codes on the populace, organize "vice squads" to crack down on so-called anti-Islamic activity, and even allegedly commit political assassinations. a hardline splinter group from DI, the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) formed in the late 1980s. they at first carried out attacks on local Christians, but as they grew in size and funding they becan to fund terrorist groups abroad, primarily the Moro insurgency in the southern American Philippines.

however, in the west, they are most known for the 1994 San Francisco bombings. on June 24th, 1994, 5 truck bombs were set off in the city center, killing 1,736 and injuring another estimated 3,000, in addition damaging multiple skyscrapers beyond repair. the attack was preceded by a declaration of holy war against the United States by JI leaders. the attack prompted an immediate response, and CIA intelligence pointed towards JI. the nature of the group's connection to the Indonesian government prompted an immediate response. the Indonesian government's lack of cooperation with apprehension of the terrorists implicated them, and common belief in the international community was that the Indonesian government condoned the attack. a coalition of multiple nations was gathered from the United States' allies, and by October 1995, the intervention deemed "Operation Indonesian Freedom" was ready to be set into action. this brings us to this map.

@lou3004 It seems odd the Americans don't take the Ryukyu island chain. It would make a decent Commonwealth on its own. I see things are a bit messy around Assam. Did Burma into Manipur, Nagaland, Mirozam, etc? And if so, was it before Baptist missionaries helped get the areas Christian minorities? That sort of thing is likely to have a big effect on American policy makers. I also think there was a rather high mountain range in the way. And as for Bangladesh? Should we assume that, given how India looks, the base map may have just been a bit undeveloped in that area? Also, what is the Kurile Idland dispute here? In Or world it was because about half of those you show in blue were claimed by the Japanese as not being a part of the island chain. Here are all the islands claimed by Japan or do the Russians want all of them, or at least what IOTL Japanese would call the Kuriles? I also find it odd how Hong Kong would not be shown on this map, as it still would be a major port. I also don't think the Americans would exactly want Shanghai. They wanted the Open Door Policy so they could trade anywhere, rather than staying in one port. Perhaps some extra color or added text should refer to what areas on here are occupied or leased, versus annexed? And how did the US take Samoa (the part they didn't already control from New Zealand? And I am surprised Palau is independent. Given everything else, I mean. And why Guam isn't separately labled, but that is comparatively minor. Ahh right, based off your game. Still odd.

The evolution of the Turanic Council, a more integrated EU and all members of the less integrated Post Soviet Cooperation Organization (name pending if anyone finds a better name I would be glad to hear it). The Council is more or less unambiguously led by Turkey (Soviet-Ottoman War started 1941, though fighting had started a year earlier in Yugoslavia, War ended in 44 for the Ottoman Empire but Turkey kept fighting (led from Sivas). Two years later the Turkish Peoples Republic was recognized and government of the Turkish SSR was disestablished. Turkey lost the Dodecanese to Greece after this war. Comintern-Western War was started in 51 and ended in 54 (ending the German and the Ottoman empires). Socialist Arab Federation was also established. In 73 Caucasian borders were reorganized. Turkey democratized in 1993 and created the Turanic Council after the 6-Years War where 8 nations fought against Iran and Arabia. Azeri borders were changed to give Turkey and Iran land). Azerbaijan (created as a Ottoman protectorate in 1920, Azeri SSR was established in 1944, gained independence in 1994, losing land after 6-Years War in 2006), Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan (Turkmen, Khiva and Bukhara protectorates were established in 1920; Turkmen SSR established in 1944 including Khiva and Bukhara;Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan gained independence in 1992; Uzbekistan gained some land Kazakh Republic in 2000; getting some more land from Kazakhs in 2006), Kyrgyzstan (gaining independence from Kazakh Republic in 2000) and Uyghuristan (Xinjiang Peoples Republic established in 1923, Uyghur SSR established in 1938, gaining independence in 1992, annexed by China two years later and regaining independence in 2006 after four years of war) are the other founding members. Tuva (gaining independence in 2005 after three years of fighting against Russians) joined next year. Mongolia joined next year (after four years of war against China, gaining independence at the same time as Uyghuristan, having joined USSR also at the same time as Uyghuristan, after two years as a Russian Republican puppet becoming a Soviet puppet again in 1921). Kazakh Republic (Kazakh SSR established in 1922, gaining independence in 1994 and later lost some land in the south to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan) was the last nation to join the Turanic Council a year later. The Council joined the 2009-2015 Sino-Japanese War (continued for one more year against Cambodia having joined the war in 2014 and becoming a Chinese puppet in 2016) along with the Indian Republic in 2014. A year later India and Turanic Council signed peace along with Japan with China, Korea becoming a Japanese puppet instead of a Chinese one and Tibet gaining independence as a Chinese puppet instead of a Chinese territory.
