It's for stuff like this that I wish there was an option to like something twice on this site. Great job, this series looks fantastic!
Thank you so much! Coming from such a bastion of althist talent, that's quite the compliment.

The start of my Many Americas series, done in the Equal Earth projection. My goal is to generate a large number of unique, semi-realistic successor states to America. The POD is always after 1945, and the current year is in the late 2000s / early 2100s.

As usual, this is entertainment, I don't endorse any ideologies here, so don't take it too seriously.

1. United States of America. This THICC America comes from a world where the 1990s neoliberals won (permanently), and the 3 North American powers moved further and further towards unity. Sure, there were rebels (Quebec and South Mexico), but they inadvertently speeded up the process. With the Left-leaning South Mexico gone, El Norte became more and more enmeshed with America, and eventually acceded. With Quebec cutting off the Maritimes from Canada proper, they almost begged America for accession. By 2100, this America has 650 million people (courtesy of liberalized immigration), is exceptionally stable and wealthy, and is the world's greatest power.

2. American Free State. The last one is a tough act to follow, and this guy looks moth-eaten in comparison. This state comes from a world in which the political malaise of the 1970s never ended, and America entered a new era of political polarization rather than the centrist-technocrat consensus we got in OTL. White nationalist groups burgeoned throughout the Rust Belt and Dixie, metastasized through the government and bureaucracy, and overthrew the state in a 2030s crisis. Of course, not all the country was on board with this, and numerous states and counties seceded, with the Southwest acceding to Mexico. The newly-declared American Free State secured Chicago and Detroit through hardball negotiations, and an advantageous position for the partition of the South with New Afrika. Unfortunately, while it had been very adept at gaining power, it was commensurately bad at using it. It went full bore on protectionism and statism, with some forays into neo-luddism. Its government resembles OTL Pakistan more than anything else, and xenophobia and saber-rattling substitute for political discourse. Not a very nice place to live overall.

3. Socialist Republic of America. In this world, the Soviet Union fell early (1970s), and the American anti-communist consensus fell along with it. Globalization and automation continued apace, but the neoliberal juggernaut met a very unexpected opponent: one with a red flag. The mofussils of the Rust Belt and Black Belt alike produced masses of socialists, though the ideology didn't win many fans in areas dominated by agriculture or the service sector (eg the trans-Mississippi, Eastern Seaboard, South Florida.) In the 2050s, combined with other fissiparous movements, the Socialist Republic of America broke free. It has returned various industries to its land, though in terms of wealth it can't hold a candle to its neighbors on the Eastern Seaboard. Still, it has created an impressive amount of interracial solidarity and harmony. Interestingly though, its citizens are generally religious and communitarian in temperament, and not the daring bohemians people expect socialists to be.

4. California. In this world, the populists won the war on the Right, but the demographic and cultural trends of California continued to set it apart from the nation, and this eventually triggered fissiparous tendencies among the Californians (and other West Coasters). As the government grew increasingly sclerotic and ineffectual, California broke free by the 2040s and cemented its liberal-multiracial identity. By 2100, California is quite wealthy and populous, but it is also a stratified and indeed almost neo-feudal society.

5. New Afrika. In this world, the Civil Rights Movement died out before it could gain much steam, but it later re-emerged as a more intransigent and militant entity. As America slowly went from a triumphant juggernaut to declining, polarized, sclerotic has-been over the 21st century, the Black nationalists gained ground by supplanting an apathetic state throughout the South. They secured an advantageous position for the eventual dissolution in the 2070s. Their state operates as a "Black Israel" in many respects, and while poor, it is stable and relatively harmonious.

That's about it for now, but more American successors are coming! Let me know if you guys have any ideas. :)

I suggest Cascadia as a potential idea.

(A Part 2 to this post from the old Map Thread -- I was planning on it being done before that thread closed but oh well)
I won't divulge majorly into the world behind the Republican Sphere -- it feels fairly straightforward:

France wins the Napoleonic Wars (to an extent), but the Continental System weakens following the death of Emperor Napoleon I, thus leading to Scandinavia and Russia backing out of the agreement. With the ascension of Napoleon II, France officially dissolved some extensive holdings that were beginning to rebel (namely the Dutch and Italians, with French Illyria remaining a department for awhile longer before being let go to form the United Kingdom of Rumelia), and created the Republican Sphere. With this, too, came the dissolution of the French Empire into the Second French Republic; despite this name, the French Republic fashioned itself more in the vein of the former Dutch Republic, in that the executive was de facto a hereditary position.

As such, the Republican Sphere has, ironically, very few republics within its borders. The amount of territory the Sphere possessed made it a major player in global affairs -- eventually forming one-half of the global power dynamic, competing against the Tripartite System whenever possible. All other major nations (Russia and the United Kingdom) separated into vaguely neutral blocs, which would rise from the ashes following the destructive Great War.
Alas, it seems we still will not get a Kingdom of Bohemia including half of Austria. Odd they don't have it more cut up, with Styria, Moravia, etc in their own sections. I am actually unsure if Moravia actually ever had fully united administration with Bohemia alone until after WWI. I also feel the Kingdom of Croatia would not have that land. Dalmatia was administered seperatly from it when under French control, and later on it was referred to as one of the three Kingdoms the Croats claimed. Plus Illyria would be a better name for the whole area, as that was a name used for basically all of what you show here in ancient times. I imagine people would still refer to Thrace and Bulgaria as Rumelia here, though at different points in time perhaps. There is also the issue that you gave Rousellion (however it is spelled) to Catalonia despite being French for centuries. I also don't feel Piedmont should be removed from France. It was rather valuable economically, and the French Republicans are- wait, rebellions? And the French are just letting the Dutch and Piedmontese get away with it? I don't quite see it happening. If it did, they would want to break them back up to their component parts, as well as set republics there.

The Interstellar Union of terra Nova is a totalitarian and nationalistic and capitalistic state. It is very advanced and is the most powerful nation in the Milky Way galaxy. It has a post scarcity economy and a very powerful military. The majority of the country's star systems have lots of habitats orbiting them. The Interstellar Union of terra Nova has many underground cities, military bases, industry and hydroponic agriculture. Large arcologies both underground and above ground house millions of people. These underground cities are connected by underground highways, railways and walkways. Large interstellar networks exist and enable passengers and freight to be sent at FTL speeds to different star systems. The interstellar federation of terra nova possesses a technologically advanced and powerful military and space exploration fleet. The military is good at defeating enemies and exploring and surveying the universe. The Interstellar Union of terra Nova’s intelligence agency is adept at espionage and subversion and communication with aliens. The interstellar federation of terra nova’s economy is capitalist and enormous. It is also growing very quickly. Socially the country is collectivistic and militaristic and nationalistic. The country originated because some posthuman people ended up in the past millions (5 million years) of years beforehand with a fleet of ships that contained von Neumann machines, molecular assemblers, enormous databanks containing vast amounts of scientific and technological information, weapons, artificial wombs, computers, various tools, political information, medical, scientific and industrial and agricultural equipment and information about how to use it. The posthumans established a civilization on a terraformed planet and it became technologically advanced and later expanded beyond their planet and eventually their solar systems.

I would like to thank my good friend @Sirion , who helped me with the writeup of the map, as well as helping me solidify the lore within the world of A Yellow Sky. As well as @deleonism for the Latin translations

This is very cool! I love the style, the roman perspective and the transliterations!

Just a random map: felt like doing something to welcome the new thread. Based on an old Ken Hite scenario where the French do better in the Seven Years war and hold onto Canada.

A common scenario, but an efficient and cool one anyway, good job, How does canada compares to the US in term of Economic weight, population, and north american/international influence?

Here is 1918 which is the start of another map game I played with myself. Not sure how world reached this stage. But I did get it done up to 2019.
View attachment 470127
This is 2019 and I can explain how the map got there from the 1918 map above.

I also have an alternate timeline of this timeline departing from this in 1933. The point of divergence is European powers not intervening in Congolese Communist Revolution against the Belgians that led to partition of Congo. That not happening allowed the creation of a socialist republic in the Congo. there were several departures that created a smaller but more widespread and multipolar socialist world. German and Ottoman empires survived in Congoverse when in 1918TL they fell to socialist rule. Collapse of the Socialist world was also different in these timelines. In 1918TL only Peoples Republic of China and 5 puppet states remained while in Congoverse there is the 10 nation New Comintern (also known as the 5th Internationale) while the Soviet Union and Peoples Republic of China both fell apart in which Republic of China reclaimed the Mainland. There was a Morocco wank in this verse too but *EU dismantled it. They are currently trying to decide what to do with the Sahara.

Oh really? Jacky did this after she became a leader

irrilevant unless she become Stalin 2.0, remember post Uncle Joe nobody in the URSS had that kind of power for obvious reason, ask Krushev; basically you must take in consideration that yes the ASB put you in charge of the URSS but you need support from various faction with different interest and it's not that just because you say so things happen ask Gorbachev

Oh, speaking of Nucleep's wonderful Milky Way basemap (approx. 94ly/px or 8821 square ly, remembering that each pixel is infinitely thick (the galactic disk is usually abt 2kly, while the core can be up to 20kly iirc)

Made a little map for the purposes of playing around. Not really a shitpost, and hey this thread is young let's pad it out a little.
Other than the fact that the blue state in the centre is Humanish, and the larger states are much more likely to be hiveminds or other easily coordinated bodies, there's one other worldbuilding element I've come up with- the "coastlines" visible on the map are areas where the "elevation" of star density rises rapidly, destabilizing drives. Faster drives can be destroyed by these crossings, while slower drives can more efficiently traverse them.
the punchline is that there is no punchline.png

I’ve always been interested in the alt history potential of a world where Fukuyama was right about the end of history

byz rep 795.png
A time ago i imagined a atl scenario. The year 795. Right here , some "byzantine general" overthrow Justinian II in 695. ASB or not that general want to grant the senate more power and turn down the imperial crown for instead someone elected every 7 years. As he saw how much the imperial throne brings a lot of civil wars. But of course the general claim to be dictator for as long as "necessary".

The exarchate of Carthage became the siege of the heraclid dynasty. They claim the imperial title who is not of course recognized by Constantinople.

Constantinople undergoes a lot of war in the balkan who brings results. One another thing probably ASB is the fact that Constantinople is willing to give his italian land and the imperial title to the lombard king if he give theme soldiers and gold. After a treaty of alliance , the new roman-lombard emperor take his part of the balkan and pannonia. After that he set a cold war with the heraclids of Africa.

Of course this a avar and bulgar screw.

Hand free in Europe , Constantinople set a war against the arabs to take back Syria and Judea. They seek to "liberate" Egypt but not his annexion. Egypt is turn into a "Coptic Kingdom" and a ally of the roman.

Peoples of Persia and Tarbistan goes to revolt following the defeat of the arabs. Persia , Media , Parthia , Bactria and Gedrosia are set free. The dynasty of Tarbistan become the rulings house and islamisation is reverted. Urbanisation continue despite of this.

Constantinople turn Cyrenaica , Armenia and Bulgaria into sister republics. The caliphate is still here but quite beaten.

The franks here divided by a western kingdom and another east one named Austrasia-Saxony.

I don't have a coherent or well thought out story to back this up, but there's some things hidden in the stats.

The Aum Movement is very aaaaaaaaaa.

I assume that this is a very different beast to the Aum Shinrikyo of our world.

That's about it for now, but more American successors are coming! Let me know if you guys have any ideas. :)

Perhaps go further back to increase possibility. Maybe a successful Indian Stream or Rough and Ready?

The United American Socialist Republics from a TL I've been working on, several POD's resulting in a 2nd Revolution and civil war in 1968, The various republics are roughly based on the zones of control of the various groups that were victorious in the 2nd civil war. Feel free to ask any questions, though I haven't quite figured it all out.
