Why isn’t south/Vietnam part of the USA , the fact that it became the 51st state is a very well known detail.
If anything it be more left wing with out the spector of an evil soviet empire at its back door ... probably a very progressive social democratic state that would make Merkel-ian Germany look down right far right.
In the writeup it mentions that it left after an independence referendum in 1999.
I like the map and scenario, but I don't think the EU is worse than TTLs EF. And I didn't yet nnotice any "cultural Marxism and socialism" in Brussels. To the contrary, beware of such right-wing populist propaganda.
My bad for not reading all the way though ... but also wouldn’t that have broken the common legel view that states with in the union can not leave the union ... like you know when some particular states tried that once and it was demed illegal?

Operation Unthinkable, and the 20th of July Plot combined.
This timeline diverges when operation Valkyrie succeeds in Germany, and the Nazi high command and Adolf Hitler are blown up in a bunker. In the following days, Germany's war effort grinds to a halt with a lack of leadership. Ludwig Beck becomes chancellor of Germany and begins pulling troops back from the western front, allowing the western allies to gain land while he began throwing more soldiers towards the Soviet Menace that was invading from the east. The western allies had discovered that Nazi leadership was eradicated and, in an effort to stop the advance of the Soviet Union further, reached out to Ludwig Beck, Germany would be allowed to join the allies, as long as they unconditionally surrendered and faced occupation. Ludwig Beck had no other options, and accepted. Germany joined the allies, however the soviets were quickly advancing.
Shortly after the Soviet Union had learned of the assassination, Stalin had ordered the Red Army to advance forward, betraying the allies in the process.
Why is Stalin betraying the allies? Stalin was a member of the Allies.
Why have the plotters agreed to unconditional surrender, instead of their actual plans?
Why aren't socialists throughout western Europe rising up and engaging in strikes because the Western Allies have decided to invade Russia? Why are the American people okay with a massive invasion of their former ally to, as far as I can tell, defend Germany? Who based on the above map seems to ahve won WW2? (keeping Austria?)
I believe I see India still claiming at least a portion of land from China, and if that is so then China would keep their own claims. Also, I see India having lost the one enclave in Tibet by now. I do wonder what the place was called, as I see it on maps so often. Also, the area beneath the Spratley Islands has some dark color missed with the pink. What country or group would that refer to? I also think there was a mistake with the number for Queen Maud's Land.I call 'em ASB scenarios.

Kills butterflies? Oh buddy, butterflies are now extinct thanks to this map.
The best part is how Bolivia does not seem to have actually regained a single square mile of land that it ceded, sold, or conceded to Brazil. Not even an Acre. I also think the linked map would help out on any future improvements, such on expanding the French area. I also suggest having Equador becoming virtually transcontinental.

more from my Victoria 2 CWE campaign. soviet union gets sorely defeated in the 1980s, gorbachev pulls it back from the brink and it dissolves mostly peacefully in 1999-2000. clinton was never elected, there's no American influence in the first election and the reformed CPRF gets reelected in Russia.
dates are the date of countries leaving the Warsaw Pact (pre-1999) or the Soviet Union (1999-2000).

Ah! This reminds me of a map/couple of graphics i had been working on a month ago or so. It's a Spanish Amazon, but focusing more on its effect on Brazil.
It's a bit more than a Spanish Amazon, that is indeed the first divergence but i also changed the location of the France Antarctique colony from rio de janeiro to IRL to IRL Porto alegre, and i also prevented the iberian union (which facilitated settlement west of the tordesilla treaty line).
Note, Antarctica is just a translation of France Antarctique , while Nueva Castilla corresponds to the early 16th century governorate (aka let's just divide south america along straight paralllels) where the mouth of the amazon is.
This is/was a part of a scenario of sort of Lusophone "Hail Brittania", where this brazil would be divided in 5 vice royalties that are equal to mainland portugal, or angola, or Ceilão

If you ask about why the population is so high despite being half the size of brazil, well there's a rather interesting fact, the amazon and the rio grande do sul were actually useless during colonial brazil! The Amazon would still be useless and underpopulated (except by indians and some poor metis, sadly many were killed during the cabanagem revolt) until the rubber boom, and the rio grande do sul was virtually empty until the second half of the 18th century, and even during the late colonial brazil was only useful as a cattle raising region. Of course later it would be the place of important german and italian migration, and would become one of the wealthiest region of brazil.... But colonial brazil wouldn't be any less populated by 1820 than IRL by any signficant amount. The Mato Grosso was also very underpopulated and was still a savage, untammed places by the late 19th century.
But actually, quoting wikipedia, only about 20% of the current population comes from 19th/20th century immigration (not counting slave trade...), and anyway most of those who came there went to plantations in sao paulo, rio grande do sul or interior parana were only secondary destinations, and most of the migration to the amazon was intra-brazil, few migrants (only some dozen thousands IIRC) went directly there IRL. And then i added the fact that i made it somewhat wealthier (although still with large inequalities... slavery was still a reality as IRL) and more interconnected with the portuguese empire (which is larger there) there is a continued sustained immigration from africa and the indian subcontinent and europe in the 20th century, hence why it's even more populated than IRL (although lower poverty rate means the natural growth during the late 20th century would be lower, but it's a good thing, the country's more educated and favelas are inexistent).
(French) Antarctica is an interesting bit, it was colonized by the french and served as a dumping ground for Hugenots, but between the very early colonization (late 16th century, british continental north america wasn't even a thing), the disease free and fertile reigon and the large numbers of (not all volunteers...) settlers, its population very quickly grew to several millions and expended through the southern cone by the 18th century, it unilateraly declared independance from france in the 1710s, and were at this point already a few millions, France couldn't do anything to keep them... Then they evolved very particularly, i imagine them as "French Boers", after all the Cape colony had strong hugenot immigration (at some point they outnumbered dutch), they got along well with the local calvinists and this is why many afrikaners have french surnames. They quickly outnumbered and killed/displaced all natives from the entire southern cone, but at the same time were very rural, religious and also anti-immigration. The result is that today they are nearly 200 millions in a quite isolationist country, the largest food producer, although not quite as much an industrial power as its population and development level may make you think (still a major power), and minorities, either migrants or natives are very few, the vast majority of the population being able to trace their ancestry entirely to 16th/17th century settlers.
While most who went south stayed in the country, some french speaking hugenots/voyageurs went north and mixed with local natives, particularly guaranis and ofayés, these métis were creole speaking and reformed, but the antarcticans didn't consider them their countrymen... eventually they decided to split and make their own state in the IRL mato grosso and Paraguay, their presence prevented, or at least detered the Brazilians/Portuguese from going into the Mato Grosso.
Spanish New Castille was for most of the 17/18th century limited to its capital, Navalilla, at the mouth of the Amazon, along with some prospectors who heard about supposed gold and riches on the Marajo island, although it turned out to be just isolated relics of the Marajoara culture, and the place stayed a backwater for the prospectors too poor to leave for nearly two centuries, the poverty of the colony means that Navalilla, the only true city, decided to stay with Spain when other colonies decided to become independant in the mid 19th century, but it wouldn't be developped until the rubber rush in the late 19th century, hundred of thousands of Spaniards came to the colony, which was for a short time the first destination for spanish migrants, cities appeared nearly overnight along the amazon, much to the dismay of the natives who suddenly had to fight for their survival. Eventually by the early to mid 20th century, when the revenue of natural rubber started to drop and spain increased its taxation, it decided to break away, but it hasn't done too well since, and the natives who live outside of the main cities live in some of the poorest conditions on the whole continent.
Now about some of the languages spoken in this Smaller Brazil, i wanted to make it a bit like "Hail Brittania" by Leinad, in which some of the former local languages, such as New Amsterdam dutch, New Sweden swedish, Detroit/Illinois French has survived. Brazil has also a lot of potential for something like this
I'm sorry for the poor colour choice, but it was just supposed to be a design document, i'm just sharing this now because it's somewhat related to the earlier post.
I made Italian and German dialects (like IRL Brazilian Venetian, or East Pommeranian) survive much more, get significiant early legal protection and become the majority languages in some regions, so that today there are more than 10 millions speaker of them together. Levantine Arabic is also very much spoken in São Paulo, reflecting the large lebanese immigration (after all IRL there are more people of lebanese ancestry in brazil than in lebanon!). And i also wanked Japanese, there is an entire 500,000 large neighborhood of São Paulo which is nearly entirely Japanese Speaking.
Then you have modern tupi that is spoken as a native language in huge part of the hinterland of the nordeste as well,it got more protection, but frankly tupi is such an awesome language it's a crime it mostly dissapeared IRL. The Guarani-Ofayé creole speakers are those metis i talked about earlier.
I also made the french settle more the colony of France Equinoxiale in Maranhão, who survive today and are akin to the IRL Cajuns, speaking both a very different dialect of Antarctican french as well as a local french based créole.
And then somehow the dutch in New Holland don't leave to New Amsterdam but stay there, creating a solid community that keep economical power for a long time, 18th century new york style, and in the 19th century there is a dutch revival in the region of Recife and today like 20% of the people there speak dutch.
So these were some of the concept i had, i intiailly wanted to make a few maps/infoboxes on it but lost interest, the earlier post by fluttersky reminded me that i made this so i shared it.

nice! I like when people map their campaign. Why didn't Finland leave earlier ,more in the 80s like the baltic countries/poland, i don't know much about the CWE mod but was china ok with the USSR taking mongolia?
couldn't tell you myself, really. they got puppeted in-game by the Soviets at some point somehow when i wasn't looking and eventually had a rebellion and a civil war. Poland and the Baltic states were all freed at the end of the same war.
i (as the US) intervened in the Chinese civil war in 1946 which stunted China a bit, the Soviets controlled an independent Manchuria until the 1970s which i forgot to put on this map too. once the RoC had gotten back on its feet (1965 or so) they helped me out in the East German war and added a wargoal to free Manchuria, so i console-commanded it to them after the end of the war. mongolia was in-game a Soviet puppet until the collapse of the Soviet Union, and bc of weird game mechanics releasing core territory as a puppet makes it near impossible for the AI to take it. but, China had cores on them so a couple years after it got independence it became part of RoC.
