I was referring to the city of Monterey, one of the oldest settlements in California.

I know. I was just giving another option. Here is what I was working off of.

Finally got around to doing something in the way of a key and legend. Central powers with more chums and more preparedness beat off the French and the Brits who fall into despair and fascism. The Ottomans collapse into a communist revolution. China solidifies and Japan gets over it's goth phase. Russian civil war is longer, bloodier, and the central powers have time to intervene. The Weltzollverein and the increasingly friendly Japanese are now facing a revanchist Soviet Union with access to the Gulf oil allied to a socialist America. The fascist half of the planet is not happy with them, either. Luckily the Comintern and the Paris Council are at odds with each other as well.

So how is life for the common man in Germany, the ASSR, the UK, France, Russia, China, and Japan?

If the CP intervene in the Russian Civil War, how did it still turn Red?

How did the US turn Red?

How is this world's technology?

A few names on where is who: Hitler, Stalin, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Wilhelm II, Charles de Gaulle, Winston Churchill, Chiang Kai-shek, Mao, and Mussolini.

And then in that case, Alta California to something in the neighbourhood of "Shasta" or "Jefferson", and Baja California to "California" period.
Alternatively, Monterey Territory.

So I've changed some subdivisions and borders. Utah now has subdivisions similar to OTL Colorado and New Mexico has a larger Northern subdivision which encompasses the historically (Spanish and Mexican settled) lands. Also the names of the territories have been changed! Now it's California Territory (OTL Baja California), Colorado Territory (or Jefferson), Dakota Territory, Kansas Territory, Idaho Territory, Indian Territory, Monterey Territory (or Colorado), Nevada Territory, New Mexico Territory, Shasta Territory, Utah Territory and Washington Territory.

The Germans are enjoying OTL-US levels of employment and culture, if not even higher, and experiencing population exchange as labourers are moving other WZ countries, and people of higher education are moving into Germany from elsewhere. The Americans have it not too badly either, as the socialist system is far less genocidal than in the USSR for example. It is no paradise either, with the media being a funnel of propaganda to the masses and the secret police eliminating any dissidence towards the Party.
The UK and France are pretty much your generic fascist dictatorships, with the UK being perhaps a bit more upper-class nation obsessed with the "white man's burden". France on the other hand is more populist, but also more romanticist: the Napoleonic period is idolized, whereas the British fascism is all about progress and innovation. Russia is similar to OTL or even worse as the result of an even worse civil war. China is still somewhat plagued by famines and pestilence amongst the peasant population, but vastly less than OTL. Beijing is importing German and Dutch professionals to oversee the construction of a modern capital. Japan, being now a rather stable and wealthy, is experiencing a social revolution if anything, with old customs being relaxed and old formalities stripped off; this of course pisses some people off.

The CP intervened in OTL as well, but eventually the organizing Red Army became too much of a risk to deal with. This was the case ITTL, only that the intervention was smaller in scale due to increased demand of troops in the breakthroughs on the western front as well as pushing back the communists in Serbia and Romania.

Communism in America started off as a coalition of mix-and-match mild to hard left wing organisations, usually under the banner of social equality for all. With the UK and France unable to pay for the American loans and arms deals on top of the large war reparations to Germany, the Great Depression hit the US even harder than it did OTL. The September Revolution was a rather popular movement from the very start.

The leading power in tech research is undeniably Germany with the UK as a close second. Breakthroughs in physics that occurred in the early 20th century OTL continued through the period of German prosperity, and this has boosted the German economy by introducing inventions such as the *microwave, the *transistor, and the solar cell, which was developed based on the work of Albert Einstein. The Atomic chain reaction has been theorized, but scientists are baffled by any possible uses to such a violent phenomenon.

Adolf Hitler has become a notorious drag queen in the Viennese underworld after his personal crisis regarding his studies in the Academy of Fine Arts of Vienna. Stalin rules the Soviet lands as per OTL. Roosevelt works as a communal lawyer in the People's Ministry of Justice. Kaiser Bill has moved back to Germany and lives in a modest villa near Penzing, spending his weekends in a certain club in Vienna. De Gaulle was shot in the shoulder by a Dutch soldier and spent the rest of the short war recovering, and nowadays lives in Monaco editing an anti-fascist leaflet. Kai-shek was blown up along with his comrades in a republican terror attack. Mao eventually moved to live with his comrades in Changsha, and as the revolution was crushed, was demoralized but resumed his life, and now studies philosophy in Beijing. Mussolini was never thrown out of the Italian Socialist Party and remains a controversial journalist.

Are you making alternate (western) US states?

Wait, why did he move back if he hadn't left yet? If the Central powers win, why did the monarchy go?

What of the Hapsburgs? Without foreign pressure they would have held either Austria or Hungary's throne (OTL the Hungarians tried to retain the monarchy but they were denied).

My take on a Bernie wins scenario, the year is 2025. Of course it´s a joke.
That looks cool. I'm curious about whether the various shades of red are meant to represent well-defined ideological differences, or if the implication is that the world is pretty ideologically homogeneous, with the current divisions being relics from the pre-revolutionary period. On a similar note, are the patches of green an indicator of environmentalist and/or Islamic sentiment in these regions, or is their color chosen because of its contrast with red? Sorry if I'm taking it too seriously. It might be a joke, but it's too interesting for me to ignore.

Are you going to make one with the alternate state borders instead of the county borders? It's just hard to read it like this.
