It didn't look that way from the basemap I used for Earth.
The southern part was. It looks like you've transfered Thunder Bay to Manitoba. Also the 'Keewatin' region simply can't support the population for a province. It's a mix of swamps and rocky boreal forests for the most part. (There's a few patches in the south that could be farmed following significant global warming. Right now there's maybe 80K people in the area.)

Alright. I don't feel like editing the other maps. But I'll retcon it in the future.

EDIT: Thunder Bay thing is intentional. Bit of political disagreement in the Ontario provincial politics.

Gaea is being busily settled by the Afroeurasian powers. China's racing cross-continental, and Japan, Russia, and the A.C.S. (Association of Commonwealth States) aren't far behind. I'm afraid I'm not especially interested in talking about this half of the world, so feel free to ask questions if you have any.

How come Indonesia hasn't taken a claim yet?

Lack of ability, since it doesn't have many friends amongst the great powers, and its naval capacity isn't that impressive. It has plenty of settlers piggybacking with the Dutch, and they're talking about buddying up with the Japanese, but they get a steady stream of cheap goods already, so a lot of Indonesians don't see the point in expending all that effort when others are willing to do it for them.

It's surprisingly common for people to try to put provinces there. I guess people see it's got a coastline and so should be a province. For everonye's benefit:

I was bored, so I started doodling around on a 1905 map. Current year is 1950. There have never been any Communist countries and Fascism is still on the rise. World War I is still known as the Great War.

Russia is a Democratic nation, but very authoritarian. Russian secret police are watching almost every move you make. The Nationalist Party is in charge and has been since 1925.

Japan is a growing Fascist problem. No one cared too much when China fell to Japan in 1947. Japan has a lot of rebuilding to do in China.

India fought for their independence in the 1940s and is facing the threat of a religious civil war.

Brazil is Fascist and strong. Brazil's only real threat is Argentina, which is also Fascist.

Germany is still led by Adolf Hitler. The Russian Prime Minister has warned Hitler that annexing the Berlin International Zone will result in war. Germany's allies are Spain, Italy, Japan, South Africa, and Brazil. German scientists are working with Albert Einstein on an atomic bomb.

Egypt is Democratic, but led by an authoritarian President who is hungry for more land. South Africa is White and Nationalist. A civil war is starting in the American Congo.

The United Kingdom has lost more than half their empire in the last decade. Iraq has been asking for independence for the last 20 years and British Africa is ready to fight for independence.

The United States, led by Republican Thomas Dewey, is trying to build an empire. Mexico is not far from becoming a US puppet and Canada is basically part of the US.

The Scandinavian Union, the only Socialist country, is not as powerful as it wants to be. It is prepared to help Hitler if that means taking Finland.

Part 2 anyone?

Almost done, now I just have to do the labels for this insanity... the scenario's kind of obvious, but I didn't intend for what happened after to be plausible.

During the last glacial maximum, the climate was overall dryer, this would translate to hotter in equatorial regions. The only question I would have is how long it would take after Yellowstone for the climate to settle into that form.
Not hotter, just drier. So savannah replacing rainforest, but max temps about the same.

Really? I would have thought reduced cloud cover would allow the equatorial regions to get hotter? I guess if there is less energy making it into the system overall, because of the albedo of the ice sheets...

Savannah replaces rainforest, then desert replaces savannah?

Yeah, there's more overall reflection. Plus clouds are roughly as likely to trap heat as they are to reflect it (which makes climate change modelling really tricky).

Desert will replace savannah in some areas, but it's complicated.

It's seems more high rainfall areas are hit hard, but low rainfall areas change less.

I would love to see a part two.

How is technology?

Tell us more of this Berlin International Zone.
I'll post part 2 tomorrow night. Technology is 1960s (minus atomic and nuclear weapons). No second world war gave people time to research. The Berlin International Zone is greater Berlin. It is in between Prussia (in the Russian sphere of influence) and Nazi Germany. It's like the Tangier International Zone that existed from 1923 to 1956 in Morocco. Most people born there have German citizenship. There are Russian secret police and lots of Russian immigrants.

Hey Beedok, when can we expect to see world K ?
Within a week. Probably. Maybe this weekend. I've really got to update D-398, and the one update I have planned requires reading through the whole thing to double check dates and names (and cringe and my lack of research early on and various mistakes...).

Fifty years ago, on the planet of Nausicaa, invaders from space invaded. Looking and speaking like normal people, their arrival was a surprise. The Americans, as they called themselves, descended quickly and made rapid advances. They established a new home on Nausicaa, clearing out everyone who was trespassing on their Manifest Destiny. After the initial shock of the blitz wore off, they sat back and began to consolidate their gains into the Holy American Republic. The Americans have come to dominate the world, though their technological advantage has narrowed considerably. Their motherships remain high in orbit around the world, and their small army of Valkyries has grown considerably, giving them a definitive advantage.

The Holy Republic's most recent war against Cambria has bogged down into bloody trench warfare as the front has barely moved in almost two years. Meanwhile, on the continental mainland, the Americans are looking to expand their holdings, causing the nations along the shores of the Great Lakes to form a mutual defense alliance. There are some that believe the Americans are preparing to target the island nations of Cayuga and Seneca. Both are rough and mountainous, and any attempt to seize them would be costly in terms of men and material. To the south of America lies Alleghania, which has been a constant thorn in their side. Alleghania has attempted to remain neutral throughout all of it, but with insular possessions so close to American territory, it's only a matter of time. All that said, nothing seems impossible for the Americans as its believed they have almost 20 million men and women under arms, and with the arrival of new motherships, hope grows dim for those who oppose them.

Elsewhere, the arrival of the Americans had a major impact on the rest of the world. Syndicalist and other-leftist revolutionaries have banded together to form the Labor League along the shores of the Middle Ocean. Standing opposed to the revolution is the Metropolitan League, a rather ad hoc alliance of densely-populated city-states led by Gotham and Pomona. Both nations claim large swathes of territory, but in actuality, their populations are more than 90% urban and concentrated in a few large cities. Further to the south lays the once-proud Empire of Byzantium. The Old Man of Nausicaa is on its last legs as nationalist, political and religious revolutions ferment under the surface. The United States has few friends and allies on Nausicaa, but it has exelled in divide and conquer. The Lakers League has been unable to unify all Great Lake nations under one banner, and they remain distrustful of the world-spanning and aristocratic Anglican Communion. In the cold, mountainous wastes of the far north and far south, tribals and barbarians have begun to raid frontier outposts, armed with new Springfield battle rifles, raising concerns of American involvement.
