Nations that are only outlined in light blue…

Okay, are my eyes broken, everyone else’s screen broken, or everyone else’s eyes broken?

Why has the thought that the UCS America color is blue continued for so long? It’s not even remotely blue. :p

Sort of a muddy green-blue, as far as I'd give it a description.

I was referring to the client states, not America.

But the fact that the only thing people have to comment on is my choice of word for the color is kinda disappointing.

Africa will be finished tomorrow, then I'll post the full map. Afterwards, I'll start showing colony words and the UTC's claims on them in more detail. Need a good title for this verse.

Maps a long way from finished, for one thing. Also didn't think much of the basic notion of the unification coming through a WWIII western victory - I'm not a believer in winnable nuclear wars [1] - but then of course the fact your gates apparently lead to "fictional worlds" means any sort of ASB technology may have been involved, and without knowing details I really can't talk plausibility.

[1] Save in the "you should see the other guy" sense. :D

War didn't go nuclear (outside of a few tactical nukes that warning was given for), for reasons I'll explain later. But yes, you're right. I shouldn't have posted it so soon. Africa will be finished today, and then you can all be disgusted by how awful it is.

Which is itself a client color of America’s.

What’s there to say? It’s ASB, so no one can comment on the plausibility or story itself. All that can be said is about the map’s construction.

Fair enough. I kinda had my knickers in a twist there. Sorry about that.

Inheritance: Terra

In 1970, an odd portal opened in the deserts of Nevada. After its discovery by a rancher, it was quickly covered up and bought by the US government, for it led to an alternate planet. Vespucci, as it is christened shortly after discovery, is examined by scientists and military explorers until 1976, where a second portal opens in the Florida panhandle.

This world is completely alien. Vespucci was a garden world, with endless redwoods and trees, like a mixture of the Californian forests. The native animals were Earth-like, with plenty of analogues for horses, bears, wolves, and other creatures. But this world, Capek, was entirely mechanical. American explorers eventually found heptapedal insectoid robots inhabiting it.

The Capekians invited the Americans to a central chamber, whereupon they were exposed to Auriel, one of the last of the Malaki, the species that created humanity. The angelic being explains to the group that they are their successors, and the rightful inheritors of the universe. Terran humanity's current purpose is to expand, settle, and assimilate non-Terran life around the galaxy.

Obviously, this poses the problem of taking completely alien beings into a culture they aren't used to whatsoever. But Auriel informs them that all species in the Milky Way have human-like brains and cultures (or at least similar enough to understand), thanks to Malaki genetic engineering, and all Earth has to is subsume them.

As the explorers leave, Auriel dissipates entirely, leaving an archive of Malaki technology for America's perusal. NATO is brought in on Operation: Star Crossing in 1982 after the seventh world appears in the American backwoods. In 1994, America goes for full disclosure after the final rumors threaten to reveal the operation without the government's doing so.

This creates a backlash against America, as the rapidly escalating capitalist nation terrifies the communist bloc. China, which America was already distancing itself from, begins to saber rattle and cancel treaties at an alarming rate. The Soviet Union, already in the midst of collapsing economically, is essentially turned into a Chinese puppet.

World War Three lasts nine years, from 1995 to 2004. Twelve NATO cities are destroyed by nuclear bombs, but two hundred and twenty four communist cities die to radioactive fire. This is due to Malaki missile defense, which America was beginning to grasp the basics of. The ancient technology crushes any enemies that the capitalists may have, and only guerrilla warfare/sheer numbers keeps the war going as long as it does The war ends with the Soviet Union broken up into two dozen or so nation states and China having a good chunk of territory bitten off of it, as well as switching regimes.

In 2010, the United Terran Cooperative is formed, dominated by the United States. It takes the form of a massive parliamentary system, with one representative for every one million people. Nations with populations smaller than that will only have observers. The UTC takes a front seat in colonizing the fifty-eight worlds America has a portal to, as well as waging wars of unification on Earth.

The Latin American drug wars result in major territory gains for the UTC as well as increased relations with Brazil. Africa is slowly being subsumed between four power blocs. The dominant UTC, the Republic of Zaire, the Arab Union, and India. The Cooperative is easily a hyperpower, with only India, Brazil, and the Congo able to even slightly compete.

The year is 2050. Over one hundred million humans live off world, with rule over sixteen million nonhumans and seven million non-Terran humans. Apparently Terra was not the only place the Malaki deposited humans. The United Terran Cooperative is overwhelming the last remnants of the Honduran drug lords and Azerbaijani militants. War is being prepared against the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the clusterfuck that is South Sudan. Colombia, collapsing in on itself, will see Cooperative troops on its beaches oncemore soon enough. Meanwhile, Houston (the capital of the UTC) is worrying about the increasing number of communist rebels in the woods and mountains of China.

And in the wide galaxy, colonial militias overwhelm the grinauts, a krill-like species that attempted to resist UTC control. The Cooperative subsumes Bridania, a native human state on the world of Gridonia with roughly sixteenth century levels of technology development, giving them three million more humans.

Life is good. The UTC rules over two hundred and one worlds, has recently set up settlements on the Galilean moons, and Zaire is finalizing talks to fully join the UTC. 2075 is coming, and that is the day when the Cooperative will form a single nation. Until then, humanity shall continue on their path to claim their birthright.

A map of Vespucci is forthcoming. I may very well make a thread entirely for Inheritance in the future. Questions welcome.

One day, someone will do a world where the Soviets gain their place as the next step in human development thanks to magitek.

I was actually thinking of doing that, but I decided against it. America is much more interesting and less susceptible to collapse.

Inheritance: Vespucci(American Colony of Vespucci)

It is debatable which world was America's first visit. Luna was the first landing, but Vespucci was the first to receive actual explorers and to be claimed by the United States. Regardless, none can deny that it is one of the most important planets in the American geopolitical scene.

Vespucci has five states and twenty-one territories, all listed below with the map. The climate is reasonable, mostly redwood forests in the equatorial areas with moderate tundras to the north and south. No sentient civilization has been discovered on this planet, only moderately advanced Sasquatchian creatures discovered in the highlands of the southern continent, who are roughly on the level of dolphins. There are no apparent Malaki ruins on Vespucci either.

The world is one of seventeen moons of the gas giant Amerigo, and is the only apparent garden world in its system. The nearby moon of Nastagio has large mineral deposits, and Vespuccian exports are mostly based around timber, exotic life/food and Nastogian mining. For bureaucratic purposes, the moons of Amerigo are counted as part of Vespucci.

Population: 3,483,289 (as of 2050 Census)
Demonym/Endonym/Exonym: Vespuccian
Largest City: New San Marco (201,659)
Administrative Capital: New San Marco
Primary Language(s): English(92.2%), Spanish(2.3%), Russian(1.6%), French(0.8%), Indonesian(0.6%), Korean(0.5%), German(0.5%), Other(1.5%)
Religion(s): Christian(66.5%, sect may vary), Islam(11.4%, sect may vary), non-theistic(20.8%), Other(1.3%)
Origin Nation: United States of America
Currency: Terran Dollar

State/Territory List

  1. Florence
  2. Soderini
  3. Wilkinson. One of the original explorers of the moon.
  4. Jameson. Likewise.
  5. Etruria
  6. Tyrrhenia
  7. Kennedy
  8. Mountain Pass. A clerical error, the original name would have been Pisa. The name stuck.
  9. Dionysus. An infamous party was thrown here celebrating the tenth year anniversary of discovering Vespucci.
  10. Good Tidings
  11. Planctae. A group of scientists and soldiers were killed by a sudden typhoon off of the shore of this territory, so it earned this spiteful name.
  12. LaFayette
  13. Steuben
  14. Redwood. Damn it, Jerry. Be more original. High command will think you're serious. *Two weeks later* “Damn it, Jerry!”
  15. Aegea
  16. Centralia
  17. Ismay. This was around the time that the NATO disclosure happened.
  18. Eisenhower
  19. Eagleton. 38th President of the United States, Thomas Eagleton
  20. Mahan
  21. Actaea. The rocky coasts were infamous amongst the Vespuccian navy.
  22. Delta
  23. Prosperity. Named for the gold deposits found in the mountains of this territory. Scheduled to make statehood in 2054.
  24. Kelley. Three things. A head officer in north Vespucci who passed away shortly before the naming of this territory, and after Oliver Kelley/Florence Kelley, two heroes of the past.
  25. Dragon Isle
  26. Boreas. The fact that a territory in the south gained the name of the north wind was noticed by quite a few pedants.

The red dot is where the portal opens to.

...yeah, this needs its own thread.
