Tallinn-Helsinki railway, how it crosses the gulf of Finland?

Submerged floating tunnel.

There have been actually discussions in both Estonia and Finland about the viability of Helsinki-Tallinn railway tunnel. At the moment Finland is somewhat isolated from European transport networks so it could possibly help that. For obvious reasons a more likely solution is some sort of train ferry connection between Helsinki and Tallinn though.

The first map for my new TL Remember Remember the Third of October. Or RR3O for short. In short, James I is dead, his daughter Elizabeth is figurehead for a coalition of frightened aristocrats, Catholics and radical sectaries, with Ireland and Lancashire serving as their core territory. Prince Charles has become a figurehead for the mechanical mob, their peasant allies, Puritans, Presbyterians and are rather relying on Scotland for military firepower. The Navy is unsure who to back and East Anglia wants to stay neutral. That won't last long. And across the Channel, Guy Fawkes has convinced old war friends to raise a fleet and cross the Channel to back Elizabeth...

Here's a CP victory map. USA didn't join, and Germany reached Paris in August 1918. "A Just Peace" was signed in Rotterdam on the 10th of September that year. I present Europe and Africa on the 1st of May 1919, start of the General Strike in Germany.

  1. Ireland is fairly like OTL, except that the border with the North is more favourable.
  2. Britain came out of negotiations with her honour saved. The new Labour Government is keen on isolationism.
  3. Belgium, with mild border adjustments and some cash compensation, is guaranteed neutrality. Again.
  4. Luxembourg doesn't even have that.
  5. The Netherlands are an important partner in the Europäische Zollverein.
  6. The Socialists believe they were elected fairly.
  7. The Conservatives believe the will of the people is with them.
  8. The Communists believe elections are a Bourgeois smokescreen.
  9. Switzerland has mobilised, just in case.
  10. Despite their shiny new (Bavarian) duke, the Alsatians are adopting a policy of civil disobediance. Germany doesnt have the soldiers to deal with it.
  11. The war economy is still in swing, and elections are still delayed. is it any wonder the SPD are agitated?
  12. Reichsland Warschau is fairly quiescent. This may have someting to do with an entire army on garrison duty.
  13. Neither Austria nor Germany are happy with the Nth partition, but they were entirely unable to reach agreement on the nature of an independent Poland.
  14. Here, you see the Galician Disturbances, start of the chain of events which will eventualy destroy the entire rotten edifice of Austria-Hungary-Lesser Poland.
  15. As you might be able to tell, Charles I did not pull off reform.
  16. Sweden has joined the Europäische Zollverein in exchange for the Ålands and autonomy for Finnish and Estonian Swedes.
  17. The Finnish Expedition has buggered off home, leaving Mannerheim and the Kola Whites to fend for themselves.
  18. The soldiers are bolstering the far more important United Baltic Duchy.
  19. Lenin was sort of put off by German support of the Whites, but the Red Army is coping well enough with the new enemy.
  20. Lithuanians are barely 50% of the Lithuanian populace, but the German Army is helping with stability.
  21. An available Romanov has been made King of White Ruthenia. This hasn't helped as much as the Germans thought it would.
  22. The Getman of Ukraine is similarly unpopular.
  23. Even as the Red Army advances on Kiev, Ukrainian diplomats are negotiating union with the North Caucasian republics.
  24. The Ukrainian policy of blocading to apply pressure failed when the Ottomans responded by closing the Straits.
  25. Armenia? What Armenia?
  26. After resounding success in Azerbaijan (and Chechnya, but no-one likes them), the Army of Islam moved across the Caspian and liberated Turkestan.
  27. They also forced Kolchak to give the Alash government more power.
  28. The Czechoslovak Legion, disheartened by events in Europe, isn't quite what it used to be.
  29. Italy was awarded Nice and Corsica, to better punish France. The locals don't agree.
  30. Much of the Italian army has mutinied.
  31. Austria has "permision" to "guard" Venice against Communist aggresion. Greater Friuli came earlier, at Rotterdam. Strikes in Italian cities are disrupting the war effort.
  32. This is not Serbia. Serbia was found guilty of crimes against humanity and metaphorically executed. The (Habsburg) Kingdom of Sumadia is legally an entirely new entity, founded on unclaimed land.
  33. Bulgaria is feeling pretty proud of that haul.
  34. King Constantine's restoration is going... poorly.
  35. Many in the Ottoman Empire feel they were betrayed by Germany just to sate British pride. They are, naturally, correct.
  36. Faisal is stirring up trouble further North, but he has diplomatic immunity.
  37. Morroco has long been of interest to Germany.
  38. The Pied Noirs are not in favour of that ridiculous equality thing.
  39. Turco-German North Africa, with its protectorates Tunisia and Cyrenaica.
  40. Togoland to the Volta!
  41. The governor of German Sudan is keen on building a Trans-Saharan Railroad to showcase German engineering. Insane, but it might catch on.
  42. The Francophone elite of Equatorial Africa and the Congo New Free State are organising a resistance movement.
  43. Wituland reborn- it allows the Germans access to Ethiopia.
  44. The governor of French Somaliland has communist sympathies, but he saw what happened when Mogadisciu declared it's allegiance.
  45. The Sambesi Colony exists to connect other German colonies- Britain and South Africa maintain their commercial interests.
  46. South West Africa was partitioned between German Damaraland and South African Namaqualand.
  47. The Dominions are growing independent. ITTL Aussie PM Billy Hughes still said his famous line when asked if he would endanger the unity of the Empire just to extend Austalia to the Pacific.

There's some interesting stuff there. Ottoman Turkestan seems very implausible though, not to mention that not only would Lenin not be in Russia without German cooperation, but Germany was actually his main funder until Versailles.

Yeah, that's why he's surprised. (Note 19, if you don't want to read the wall of text.) However, I think the conflicting interests in Ukraine, Belarus and Finland were bound to blow up, and soon.

As for Turkestan, if you look at how weak and unstable the Tashkent Soviet was, I think even a small expedition could have taken over. Bukhara, Khiva, and the Kokand government were in Muslim hands, after all.

How does that strike go?

This map is fascinating because Germany's won, but looks like it's about to lose the peace.

Doesn't look like anybody is about to win the peace. Maybe Bulgaria.

Lavidor, what does East Asia/Oceania look like? Did Germany retain anything in the Pacific?

I doubt that'd help much in that respect, since the problem of both Finland and Estonia using a different gauge from the rest of Europe still remains.

Thanks for all the praise, everybody. I was also tired of all the admiration of the CP.

I haven't really decided on the strike. On the one hand, Ebert and the Socialists are more popular than Hindenburg and the Kaiser, but on the other the war is still going on which makes supporting the strike difficult for patriotic Germans (That was really the point of turning on Lenin). It could go either way, but Germany's losing most of its gains regardless.

The German Pacific colonies were divided between Australia and Japan, like OTL. I would have put it on the map, but that would have forced me to do the whole world. This took long enough as is.
