Not sure how things turned out in your TL, but even conceding the possibility of a fully democratic, non corrupt socialist government you may need a lighter shade of light pink for Italy, expecially southern Italy. There is a deep rooted history of corruption there that exploded in 1992 but goes way back into the early history of the country with the Brigantaggio (the direct ancestor of mafia in the 1880s. Not even hard repression during the fascist period took that away, and I don't think even a gulag-style purge could do any better.
Just my opinion.

No confidence in the Neapolitans eh :p

Do you have this map with modern borders, or any OTL borders, or even blank? I'm always trying to collect maps to use for Alt-history drawing and I don't much care for the smaller map. This one is perfect. :)

I'm pretty sure a base map meeting the terms of your request can be found in the Blank Map Thread.

My entry for the MoF3. If you would like to read the history behind it, check out the MoF3 page, as there is a lot of writing and I doubt you would want to be weighed down by it.

Comments are welcome, since I want to know how I can improve my cartographical skills for MoF4.

Some random comments on your map (which, I think, looks rather nice on the whole):

- The labels seem rather large and thus clutter the map;
- The difference between the outlined major countries and non-outlined minors is huge and does not look good, because that reveals the boxy non-anti-aliased borderlines which are at least partially obscured where the outlines are;
- Some parts of the map look rather cluttered in general (France, Germany), while others are wide open (Russia); while this is true in many cases, it may be helped by reducing the city labels and maybe adding a few non-capital cities here and there in the less cluttered areas;
- The style of the ocean (rather dark, non-saturated colour) and the crumpled paper really don't work with the colour scheme you used for the country outlines; ever heard of the four-colour scheme? You may try using that instead, or try copying the colour scheme used in the maps of the period you are trying to emulate; in any case, the country outlines should be less saturated;
- The longitude and latitude lines look rather messy and completely artificial (as in, they don't fit with the rest of the map).

Hope this helps :)

I have one that's blank in the "uninhabited" UCS colour and one that is in OTL current international boundaries.
I can PM them to you if you like, or post them in the Base Maps thread. Your call.

If you could PM them to me, I would be most appreciative.

Just tried to. Since it won't let me upload images for a PM, I tried uploading them to imageshack and posting the links. And...the 'Shack won't work. Keeps timing out. :confused:

So, you'll find them in the A Blank Map Thread right now.

Where can i get a free picture editor that's simple to use but isn't as crummy as paint? Because i want to make a few maps for war but i can only do it in paint which looks horrible and is hard to follow, because I look at some of these maps and go "whoa"

Well apart from Photoshop, which is'nt free, well unless you torrent it, their's GIMP (which is what is apparently used for some of the fancy maps) and PAINT.net.

I took a map I found showing America in the early 1800's and got an idea.

I give you the Confederation of North America, a sort of EU like thing comprised of three republics or what is America.

The only problem I would say with the plausibility of your map is Vancouver Island. The British would never surrender it to the Americans for two reasons: strategic location along the entire region and that it was two far north of American settlement of the region.

Cool map:cool:
Not necessarily; the United States had a shot (maybe 15-25%) of getting Vancouver Island south of the 49th in OTL 1846; it wasn't likely, but very, very possible- and since the northern half of the island had about one settlement at the time, it's within the wide realm of possibility that, with a POD around 1842, the island could end up under US control.

WHAT DID YOU DO TO OREGON!?!

WHAT DID YOU- oh, I see what you did. Carry on.

(Oh, boy. I'm becoming a single-issue fanatic. Susano has his HRE; AnalyticalEngine has his Turbo-Austria/British Empire; I have Oregon Country. :eek:)

Paint.net. Use it. Love it.

WIP fantasy map - click on the thumb to see it. I've tried to make it look badly-printed.

Does anyone have any advice on drawing roads?

Okay it's not a great achievment, but it's the first time i'm not cannibalize Wikicommons.

Socialist Federation of Czechosilesia, in 1974, french communist party document.

I have only one criticism that comes to mind; I can't speak French :eek:.

Aesthetically speaking, your map is very well done. I have to agree with the textbook feeling. Very interesting.
