I do have to ask about Vietnam. Doesn't seem like quite the flag they would have, closer to the French flag. And the flag in Manchuria has the emblem of the Manchukuon Emperor, which wouldn't make sense, since how would he remain on the throne with Japan weakened?

Ok....here is one. Map from the year 1915.

Guess the POD. Hint: After 1900.

This is a world where the Assyrian Empire under Sennacherib (who survives the assassination attempt that killed him OTL) and his son Essarhaddon conquer Anatolia and then Greece. There is a Great Exodus of Greeks to southern Italy and Massilia, where in time a Massilian Empire is born. The Assyrian Empire eventually decays and splits apart in civil war - the Thessalian Empire is ruled by offshoots of the Assyrian nobility.

It is a fictional colonial flag based on the also fictional flag of a France that lost WWI but avoided direct implication in WWII. By 1968 it still is an authoritarian monarchy ruled by Action Française. See the flag thread.

In the case of Manchuria I searched some icons used in Manchurian flags. At first, I used a red flower from a Manchurian "nobility ensign", but I changed it just because it looked too simplistic. Well, in this TL there aren’t commies and the main aim of Russia is to keep Manchuria out of Chinese control; the Russians simply don’t care if the head of that state is a puppet emperor or a puppet president. Pu Yi simply can claim that he was just a hostage of the Japanese who couldn’t do anything against the nippons or even that he didn’t know what they were doing with the Manchurian/Chinese population.

1905. After the Russian defeat against Japan in OTL Wilhelm II. actually convinced Nikolaus to signe a alliance-treaty. Both goverments were against it and so the treaty died. Maybe both monarchs are able to convince their goverments and then the Russians convince France to become the third member. Somewhere around 1910 this continental allliance starts a war against Britain.

This is true. Maybe they conquer Dobruja?
The Transylvanian Saxons could possibly fulfill this role...

Thats exactly what I was thinking about. Andrew II of Hungary does not expell the Teutonic Knights and suitable ground for creating and independent nation is created. Still it wouldn't be as succesful as Teutonic Order in Prussia.

Very close! My idea was a succesful revival of the Holy Alliance of post-Napoleonic times around 1902 or so...Wilhelm II, in a political move that would have made Bismark envious (and spinning in his grave) is able to play on French sentiment post-Fashoda and get the French involved.

Austria gets control of a chunk of the Balkans and Italy, Ruissia gets a free hnad in the Middle East, and Germany and France get morecolonies (and split the Low Contries between them.

I figure the war could be a Russo-Japanese conflict that kicks off the alliance systems.

My sentiment is the French were absolutly not rational about anything involving Germany in this time. By 1910 you have two full generations of men who were learnt to hate Germany and to get ready for war. A common picture shows a teacher learning his young pupils the future tense using the following exemple: Tu seras soldat (you will be a soldier). Further in every classroom you found a map of France with the lost provinces in black.

I must admit you got a point.

Nice. Is this GURPS Infinite worlds inspired? And is the Massilian empire Greco-Celtic or Celto-Greek? :)

Seems uncharacteristic of either group to manage to establish an Enduring Empire [1], but then there's probably some Latin in the mix, too...quite different western Europe culturally, for sure.

best,
Bruce

[1] Yes, I know, Byzantium. But that was also a Roman project, and they never did succeed in "Grecifying" the Balkans or the Caucases.

Yes. Germany (non-Nazi), Japan, and fascist US conquer the world. Of course, it doesn't really make sense, but who cares?
