So I'm doing a map on the side based on a comment I saw a while ago in the pre-1900 forum (which I can't seem to find, unfortunately) which basically made the point that had Thomas Aquinas lived longer and been able to complete various important texts then we might see social and technological progress go hand in hand with Christian theology, avoiding the Reformation and religion's anti-science association. But when I looked for that comment I then found some accusations that he indirectly caused the Reformation and so is somewhat responsible for the issues the Church faces today.
So I'm not sure what to believe, I'm no theologian nor a historian of that period. But I am a law student and we touch on Thomas Aquinas in quite a lot of depth due to his importance in the foundation of Natural Law, that there is a precept by which all rights and law are naturally derived and should emulate. So I've got an interest in the man, and I suppose this thread is to clarify and see what would happen had he lived say, a decade longer?
