Hello there!
As a few of you may be aware, I run a map contest over in Maps and Graphics called the Map of the Fortnight contest. Recently we've started running 4-week-long "Map of the Month" contests once a year, and the challenge chosen for this year's Map of the Month round is rather unusual.
The challenge is to make a timeline and then make a map set in that timeline. The intention is for entrants to team up, with one person making the timeline and the other making the map, which is why I'm here! We have plenty of people who are willing and able to make maps and enter them into the contest, but very few people with experience in making full timelines in a short amount of time - the purpose of this thread is to try and get some of you timeline-writers interested, and get you paired up with map-makers before the Map of the Month entry period begins.
The rough rules of this year's Map of the Month challenge are thus:
-Any number of people may enter as a group.
-The timeline does not need to be extensive or very long - something that would qualify as a TLIAD (timeline in a day) would suffice.
-The timeline must be posted on the forum after the beginning of the entry period and must be made specifically for the contest (so no using a pre-existing timeline, basically).
-When the map is posted into the entry thread, the timeline it is connected to must be linked to, and the names of everyone involved in making the timeline and map must be listed.
-There are no restrictions on when or where your timeline may be set, or what your PoD is. Fantasy and sci-fi maps are permitted, though ASB maps are not (this rule can be confusing, but the difference between "fantasy and sci-fi maps" and "ASB maps" is that fantasy and sci-fi worlds operate on different rules from reality but are internally consistent, whereas ASB worlds violate the pre-set rules of the world - if you have an idea for an entry and don't know whether it would count as ASB, feel free to PM me and I'll be able to tell you).
-The entry period will begin once the entry thread is posted on Sunday the 29th of June, and end when the voting thread is posted on Sunday the 27th of July.
-Victory will be decided by voting poll, which will be posted on the 27th of July and will remain open for one week. The entry with the highest number of votes wins, and other entries have a chance at getting Honourable Mention awards for impressive entries from first time contestants, unusual or experimental entries, and for getting a large portion of the vote.
Hopefully that wasn't too confusing, but if it was feel free to PM me or post your questions in the the Map of the Fortnight main thread.
So if you're interested in participating, please head to the Map of the Fortnight main thread over in Maps and Graphics and state your interest, and we'll see if we can get you grouped with a map-maker! As I said the entry period doesn't begin until the 29th of June, so you have lots of time to find a group and discuss possible timelines/maps.
And if you have any questions at all, or need the rules clarifying, feel free to ask them in the thread or PM me at any time!
