Done, at last.Sorry, taking longer than expected due to continually-crashing computer. I still aim to get it done today.
Why on earth did I think it would be a good idea to spend about six hours making a fictional map for a little online contest?

Accidental. Sorry! Why is that island in Denmark on Fluttersky's map colored yellow?
I just included the Catalan-speaking realms in the state of Catalonia, and didn't know that Valencia and the Balearics would be opposed to this. And I can only imagine how much the Valencians and people of the Balearics would hate to be saddled as appendages of a Catalonian based state, rather than a Spanish or Catalan one. Here I use Catalonian to refer to the smaller region based around Barcelona.
Flanders seceded following a successful independence referendum, but the Belgian government managed to retain a corridor from Brussels to Wallonia. And Belgium looks like it would have been difficult to break in such a way. The German-Speaking Community prefers a united Belgium but wouldn't rule out jumping ship if it did break up. Probably join with Luxembroug.
Ehh, the French language of Occitania isn't that different. And besides, the majority-Francophone Brussels still contains quite a few European governmental institutions despite no longer being the capital, so the Francophone regions aren't being particularly marginalised.Ahh, the Walloons are going to feel uncomfortable with everyone speaking either Germanic, Slavic, or Meditteranean tongues rather Parisian French.
Not sure if that was a yes or no...Nah, but it's okay!
All is well in the world.English is the de facto language of government, and lingua franca, of the European Federation...
How about, going off a similar vein, the prompt involves maps that look convergent but have history and reasons for why whatever convergent elements look the same or similar?Prompt idea, entirelystolen frominspired by this map by @Anekcahdep: https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/map-thread-xiv.383564/page-303#post-13222631
The Hyundai DS Incident
Make a map that is strangely convergent... in all the wrong places. An EU-like entity in the middle of South America, a DPRK and ROK in the Pacific Ocean, et cetera.
What's up with the roundels?
If you're talking about the 3rd one, then that represents "A Conquest of Irony". I decided to make it a smaller nation invading the larger one, as I couldn't think of any other way. What's up with the roundels?
I really like this idea. A lot. Imagining the history of one region applied to another can be quite interesting.Prompt idea, entirelystolen frominspired by this map by @Anekcahdep: https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/map-thread-xiv.383564/page-303#post-13222631

There were some challenge suggestions made specifically for MotM challenges, I'll see if I can find them.I like the idea of a MotM, but can we come up with something other than the HDI suggestion? I don't think that would work well with it.
Mark of a Nation
Make a map showing a political entity (be it an international organization, nation, subdivision, etc.) and depict its various symbols (such as flags, coat of arms, etc.).
