Map of the Fortnight: Main Discussion Thread

Well, Becca's officially gone fishing, so I think that it's up to us to decide. There are three people currently in support of one idea, so I think we could conceivably use that and post the threads.

The idea:
The Great Game - Make a map of a non-military struggle for influence and power in a given region.

Some people supported the irony one too.

Ahh, I actually didn't see that one. Seems like it has more votes, though, so it could easily be the topic of the next one. I can post the threads if people want me to, though not until tomorrow morning...

Works for me, and yeah the Irony one seems to be the winner.

I'll post the voting thread at 9:15, unless lots of people have an objection (no point in extending the deadline, there's four solid entries).

A week? Again? Look, I'm all for people getting stuff in but at this rate we should just rename the contest "Map of the every three weeks'. There's a deadline for a reason, and while I recognize that everyone has real life stuff going on, I don't think two weeks is an unreasonable time frame.

Agreed. As others have pointed out, there are 5 solid entries, a consensus on the next topic, this contest is extended much too often, and everyone that has said they want an extension has only now started their map, after the original deadline. The extension should only be put in place so that people who started their map before the deadline can finish it, and even then only if they're relatively close to doing so.

For all of these reasons, I'm going to be posting the threads. Sorry to everyone who has just started a map for this contest, but there is a clear deadline that the map must be completed by, and that deadline was yesterday.

Does the initial conquest that's being ironically reversed have to be one that occurred in OTL, or can that be AH as well? Also, how strictly are we defining conquest?

The initial conquest does not have to be OTL; I just used examples from OTL, though it would most likely be more compelling if it were.

Conquest as in the subjugation of the former subjugators by the former subjugated.

Given that tomorrow's the deadline for this round, does anyone have any ideas for the next one? I'll start by reiterating my last one:

Long Live the King: Make a map of a disputed succession in a monarchical entity of some kind.

I saw a contest suggestion back in 2009 I thought was pretty funny:

Perversas: Make a map of a Roman province where there definitely shouldn't be one.
