Map of the Fortnight: All Stars Invitational | Interest Thread

Thoughts on a prompt. Let me know which you think is best:
  1. Arena of Champions - Make a map of a multi-sided civil war from which one faction emerges victorious
  2. Shooting Stars - Make a map of the world after the impact of an asteroid or other cosmic debris.
  3. Back to the Start - Make a map with a point of divergence on July 24th, 2009.
  4. This Is My Legacy - Make an updated map of a Map of the Fortnight contest that you won.
  5. Greatest of All Time - Make a map showing the effects of several heroes and legends being ISOTed back to the ancient era.
Feel free to suggest your own as well.
Oh it definitely needs to be #4

4 is thematically appropriate, but I feel like I can also do a lot with 3. Ultimately, I'm fine with nearly all of the prompts.

4 is probably the most practical, although it may be a bit too advantageous to people who have won many rounds over those who won a single one, so maybe it’d be a good idea to allow those who only won a single round to make an updated version of a map they submitted but didn’t win.

1 isn’t bad but would fit a normal MOTF round better
Not sure what’s the relation between the subject and 2; 3 and 5 are good, although i’d prefer 3 personally

Quite a valid point, this. I also am not gunna lie and say I've largely forgotten which and how many of these I've won, on what prompts...

How closely does the map need to be based on the previous one? Can it feature another region and/or a different time period as long as it is set in the same world and timeline?

It doesn't have to be exactly the same, make adjustments as you see fit, as long as it's generally an update or continuation of the map you won with.

Hey everyone! Reminder that the submission period for this special edition closes in just a few hours! I'm about to finish my entry, I'd love to see what everyone's got.

Right here

I can’t imagine Eastern Europe having no illegal production hotspots.

Frankly in Yugoslavia such laws would lead to a revolt, practically every Christian household in the countryside produced its own rakija or wine, at least (this is an estimate off experience) 1 in 5, and it’s seen as an essential part of the culture by many. Serbs in particular would go ballistics “we didn’t keep our lifestyle through centuries of Turkish oppression just for our own rulers to take away our booze now” would be an unironic sentiment.

Oh, for sure. I didn't make it too realistic, mainly focused in making a pretty poster (for which there's a lot of room for improvement). I'm going to be honest, that idea was a last resort because I *really* wanted to submit something for that fortnight's edition.

I haven't decided much on Eastern European lore, but I'd go with the KGB cracking down on a lot of illegal breweries in USSR-aligned countries during the 50s and 60s, with a reeducation campaign for the younger generation, making people *want* less alcohol than usual. Yugoslavia can't really be justified, I wanted to do something with it (being a not-pro-USSR socialist nation was very unique) but never came down to figuring it out.
