Map Help: Plausible Austro-Hungarian Political Parties

Hi, I'm currently working on a map of a surviving Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Empire I have in mind is based on the "United States of Greater Austria" Proposal.

The few (ASB) idea's I have:

Christian Social Party/Christlichsoziale Partei (CS)

Social Democratic Workers' Party/Sozialdemokratische Arbeiterpartei (SDA)

Constitution Party/Verfassungspartei (VP)

German National Association/Deutscher Nationalverband (DNV)

Communist Party/Kommunistische Partei (KP)

Any other ideas what parties I can use?

That is what actually happened - just take a look at this list and count the different parties.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste...hen_Abgeordnetenhaus_(XII._Legislaturperiode)

The representatives used to argue among each other (more like scream at each other) in 13 or more different languages.

I think that 13 languages is too much, from north to south, I count :

10 or maybe 11, if you count croatian and serbian separated,
- polish
- ukrainian
- czech
- slovak
- german
- hungarian
- rumanian
- italian
- slovene
- croatian
- serbian ? if it is not the same as croatian for you

Almost all of the countries of the former Habsburg Empire have successful right-wing populist parties: see the FPÖ, BZÖ and Team Stronach in Austria, FIDESZ in Hungary, Smer in Slovakia. We might also include the Polish PiS here. So I'd add a party family that is somewhere between the centre-right CS and the (supposedly?) far-right or separatist DNV. It could be called something like "Freedom Party", "Justice Party" or, as an Hungarian analogue "Young Democrats".

If this Austria-Hungary becomes Communist for a while, we might see some other features of post-communist party development as well. For instance, the post-Communists becoming economically liberal afterwards (as happened in OTL Poland and Hungary), and the emergence of civil-rights "Green" parties. Likewise, Hungary, Croatia and Romania had a long tradition of major peasant-based parties, therefore I'd add something like a "National Smallholders' Party", which might later get absorbed by either the CS or the right-wing populists.

There's lots of smaller groups like Albanians, Rusyns, Jews, Roma, Romansh and probably some more.

Seconded.
A "Bauernpartei" (Peasants` Party) and "Die Grünen" (the Greens) make sense. A right-wing populist party makes sense, too, if things remain similar to OTL. What about "Freiheitliche Volkspartei" (People`s Freedom Party)

Would there be an old school monarchist party? Furthermore, would these parties be representing the entire empire, or just the Austrian dominions?

Could you post a link to that timeline?

Not a timeline. It was a plan popular among a clique of scholars around Franz Ferdinand for federalizing the empire.

As for parties, at the very least I'd think there would be a nationalist/separatist party for each nationality. Whether of the violent ultranationalist variety, the regionalist decentralizing and rent-seeking sort, or both.

Why would? There were 7 Slovak representatives in Hungarian parliament. For example Ferdis Juriga for Slovak People Party.

Would there be an old school monarchist party?

If there's a break - like Communism or fascism -, there probably would be one after the revolution. Otherwise, I'd say the CS would be staunchly monarchist, whereas the Social Democrats would be the leading republican party.

The abbreviation for the social democratic party was SDAP or SDAPÖ.

Depending on the way history develops, you might have a party that develops from the SDAP's militant tendency. In OTL, the more militant members created the Republikanischer Schutzbündler (Republican Defense Corps). If the SDAP leadership continues its OTL course of moderation, you might see a radical splinter based on that. Or they might just join with the communists.

You're also missing the Austrofascist Vaterländische Front (Fatherland's Front).

You might want to get rid of the communist party at least if you don't have WWI, there could be a big socialist party, maybe with a lot of sections for all the nationalities.

If you really want to have parties for the entire Empire you would need something like presidential elections, not easy in an monarchy...

In fact, it finally got so bad that the Emperor had to essentially rule by decree as there was practically no way any government at all could govern with the consent of the Reichsrat.
