Map Continuation X - Map 3 - Meganesia and the East Indies

Kingdom of Papua
This nation is very, very unlikely to exist. For one, where does the kingdom come from? How is it going to exert control over a jungle of sporadic and independent tribes? How did it form from a jungle of sporadic and independent tribes?

I'd suggest that this nation is more likely to be one or more colonies.

EDIT: Here is my proposal for Meganesia, with Portugal controlling the majority of the island, whilst England has a small colony in the west.
I've given Mauretana the whole of that Swedish puppet, and given Sweden Borneo.

@Hannover: yeah, it's hard to have such a small state with somewhat random islands in this area - they could have one or two islands in the Caribbean, though, and/or even be 'TTL Belgium', BUT remember that Belgium was in a very particular situation OTL which is not that trivial To achieve.

@DrTron and chris456: that's the spirit! Everyone should have an 'important' nation, but this doesn't mean everyone need to have colonies all over the world to increase the status of their nations. Remember, there are still three other continents.

@Name of the Americas: it's very unlikely that a guy with exactly the same surname discovers the new continent and it accordly.
As Portugal is that sucessful in the East, I don't think it sent the first expeditions to the West... that could be Castille, France or Mauretana, ie, the direct 'rivals' of Portugal. Dano-Netherlands and Italy are commercial rivals of Portugal, so they probably had the interest too.

@Kingdom of Papua: uhnm, only if it is a colonial sucessor state, but even if it is, this island is rather poor, with lots of jungles and mountains, so it would be quite hard for a single, young nation to control all these islands - specially with lots of hungry europeans looking to them.

@Gandavien version: I like it.

How about Minotia?

Ha, nice name!
It's after who, however?
The French explorer Gaston Minot? The Castillian Hernando Minoto? The Mauretan Sanço de Minota? The Genoan-born Napoleone Minotini?
Let's keep the Americas for a later date, shall we? Let's focus on Meganesia for the time being.

Ok, ok, back to Meganesia...

The Sikh Kingdom of Butuan always controled, more or less, its Archipelago, even with the budhist Dati in the northern islands.
In the late XIXth Century, however, the Butuan King allied with the Dano-Dutch King, breaking his alliance with the Portuguese, which never really helped the insular kingdom. The Portuguese, then, supported the budhists against the Sikh rule and backed the Tagalogi Union, which gained independence from Butuan after a short civil war and allied with the Portuguese.

So, in the north we have the portuguese-protected and budhist Tagalogi Union, and in the south is the danish-allied and Sikh Kingdom of Butuan.

edit: I'm in favour of:
-Giving the Celebes to the Scotts (or the Celebes and the Butuan Kingdom to the Danish)
-Dividing Papua between Portuguese and a non-colonial power, like IOTL Germany got a part of the island.

Castillian claims

their small (and could be smaller if need be) because I think we said they would be primarily concentrated in the Americas

The Spice Islands should also be partly Portuguese, since they're supposed to be the "great power" of this region. England should also have more, I think.

Froccitania probably has some sort of presence, either in the Indies or out in the Pacific.

And if Mauretania has that one very valuable colony, chances are they have at least one other one in the region as well.

It sounds like consensus is against minor powers being given colonies here: the Germanies and Italies, and Scotland, particularly. The Americas and Africa will offer more opportunities for minor colonial projects, and I expect Bohemia to have a presence there.

-I gave some more land to the Scotts, before, because it was discussed a little before that they were quite influent in this region, but they already have half of Java and half of Sumatra, so indeed they don't need it.
-I agree that Portugal and Angland need more influence here;
-Lower France will receive half of Papua then, ok?
-Mauretana has its indian lands, which are near Aceh (Acè in Mauretanan), and I thought they would focus a little more in the Americas, thought I'm not sure about this.
Southern Borneo could be given to them, if you think they deserve more lands there.

My proposal of redistribution of power - feel free to change it!

edit: better map

Hmm. I think maybe if we divided Sulawesi much like Java and Sumatra are, between DN and AI. Also, I gave Venice two random islands in the Moluccas. If Venice still exists in 1900, I sincerely doubt it will have much power, but if Courland had colonies IOTL, ITTL it is likely Venice will have at least a few holdings. IOTL, Venice was still at its height during the POD, and managed some Greek conquests well up to the late 1690s.

Here is JJDX's map with DrTron's Japanese Phillipines and that one state in Papa New Guinea. Assuming everyone's happy and no one wants though tiny easternmost islands, I believe I can make an overlay and we can move on to the Americas.

I think we agreed that Papua New Guinea shouldn't have that independent nation.
Also, I'm still opposed to Japanese Philippines.

Papua would be colonial owned, 100% sure. The Locals are too primitive and the wealth too large for colonial powers to look it over.

Japanese Phillipines is..no.

Also, Is it possible for a Yemeni colony in Aceh? I'm looking for a colonial federation around the Indian ocean, basically.

Well apart from the fact that Aceh has already been claimed as part of the Mauretanian colonial empire, a Yemeni colonial empire is unrealistic.

I don't think the Japanese could make that conquest also, at least, the way it appears. The POD is 1400, and the Philippines were 'discovered' IOTL in 1521. The Spanish set up their first colony in 1565. I very much doubt Japan could throw off the warring clan system they had, and its still very likely that the country will be 'closed' anyway regardless of who is control of the Shogunate.

In other words, short of Japan defeating Spain, or whoever controlled the Philippines ITTL, I doubt Japan would own all of the Philippines. Perhaps, a little bit in Northern Luzon, but the Spanish wouldn't give such a strategic archipelago in its entirety away easily. For that matter, the Spanish never completely owned the Philippines anyway. The South was always a little beyond their grasp...

Also, do away with that Papuan Kingdom. Even now, its mostly tribes...

Oman has a better chance though. Perhaps in Africa...
