Map Continuation X

Meganesia and the East Indies

There are most likely to be very few truly independent nations here, so keep it colonial for the most part. I would like to ask that Australia not be taken up by any more than two nations/colonies – three at a stretch. Remember that Portugal discovered & colonised Australia itself.

Areas coloured grey on the map are NOT allowed to be claimed on, as they are part of other continents. Borders must be ONE PIXEL THICK and coloured black. The map must always be saved as a PNG image.

The moderators are myself, Benkarnell, Trovador and Knepah, and we have reserve a right to alter borders slightly if we see fit. Note that you may claim several nations on one continent, but try to keep it to no more than two unless we need more.

I claim 'Dano-Netherlands Timor, D-N Polynesia, and the Kingdom of Majapahit.

Scottish-Norwegian East Indies, as well as the New Hebrides (OTL's New Caledonia) and Foldland (North Island).

Also I am glad that Meganesia got accepted.

Swedish *Tasmania.
Is that colony really worth it? I would've thought Tasmania would just be a part of a Meganesian colony, because its not really worth much on its own, and it would be part of the Portuguese sphere given that they probably colonised Meganesia.

I agree that Tasmania is not the most viable of the colonies...

Here's my proposal:

Mauretanan Aceh (and Mauretanan Illas Bissenas) and the Swedish protectorate of Sumatra.

Sweden controling both sides of one of the most strategic straits in the world would have serious balance-of-power issues. And I don't think Sweden is strong enough to maintain that. How about something on Borneo?

Based on what we have seen so far, I think that the level of European control in this region would be somewhat less than in OTL (less than 100%, in other words) but still very substantial. Those home-grown kingdoms that do appear will mostly be dependencies on some level of colonial powers.

Looks nice, always thought of Sweden controling the Straits of Malacca. And Mauretana is looking more and more interesting :D

I added the Khmer Empire in Kalimantan. In this history, the Khmer Empire did not crumble and began exploring the seas until the European Colonial Age invaded and crippled the remaining Khmer holdings.

Fairly well, you're right: Sweden is not powerful enough to have such important region.

Some ideas, then: transfer the protectorate to another nation - Mauretana, Anglo, Scotland? - or make the land plus Singapure be the portuguese colony of Gibraltar D'Oeste ("Western Gibraltar"). Or, finally: in order to avoid a major war for the control of said strait, it was grant independence and neutrality to the Republic of Gibraltar D'Oeste (Demonym: doestian).

I'll wait for the portuguese colonies to post a new map, though.
