Map Continuation 3 - Map 1 - Europe

Well, it depends what country you think has the most pull in the Empire.

Some of the more notable cities in the empire are (I think, my British Geography is pretty poor) Nantes, Rennes, and I think that Poitiers is also in your empire; Cardiff... and my knowledge ends rather abruptly there; Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dublin...

Yeah, there doesn't appear to be any one area in the European part of the Gaelic Empire that, IOTL, has a uniquely greater population density than the rest of the country.

Considering the POD's around 1200, I'd say you've got plenty of time there for you to justify making up an entirely new city. Maybe something in Southern Wales? An important port city, perhaps?

Well, what I am thinking is that each of the five kingdoms maintains its own capital: Iniscrone for Ireland, Edinburgh for Scotland, Cardiff for Wales, Rennes for Brittany, and Truro for Cornwall. However, there would have to be a common imperial capital, otherwise the national government would keep wandering around. So my thought was that the monarchs of the GE would choose a city that is centrally located, and deem it to be the capital for the entire empire. It would then grow large and prosperous as a result.

It'd have to be pretty large and prosperous before it's the capital, though, otherwise it wouldn't make sense to choose it as your capital.

How about the Isle of Man? Centrally located (although it does leave Brittany kind of on the fringe).

Otherwise, I think that a city in Brittany might make the most sense since it's probably the most vulnerable to foreign invasion, and as a result requires greater imperial presence (I'm assuming that England has been left powerless to actually damage other parts of the Empire, and both Wales and Scotland have terrain favorable for defense).

Once again, look to the OTL example. Dublin wasn't much more than a village until the Parliament was established in 1297.

Wexford was founded around the same time as the modern settlement of Dublin, however Downpatrick can trace its roots back to before Pre-Roman times.

Of course, there are also examples of cities being founded exclusively with the purpose of being a capital in mind (New Delhi, Brasilia, La Plata, Constantinople to a certain extent).

Washington D.C., Ottowa, somewhat, Nairobi, um I think Canberra, I think there's more.

Well, in any case, here's a picture of the heir to the Irish throne: Crown Prince Uilleam II.
