Map Contest Two: Discussion

Hm.. a 1935 death... uh, hm. That requires some thinking. As said, I can only trust in my originality, not my nonb-existant graphic skills :D

Just to clarify:

So it can be ANY person of significance, Axis or Allied?

Quite so. IIRC from what Scarecrow told us it could be anybody of significance (I guess significance is in the eye of the beholder). (A little short explanation with the map goes a long way to help the judges...as you should well know o' former chief judge. ;))

Is this poltical leaders or millitary leaders? Is Gandi considered significant? How about Eisenhower, Patton, Montegomery?

Maybe the guy that got M&Ms put in the soldiers care packages during the war... Talk about dystopia.. they would have never become popular, we'd all be doomed! Doomed I tell you!

can be either, just as long as they had a siginificant impact on World War Two.

Gandi?...thats a tricky one. There was the Quit India Movement, athough how much of an effect it would have had on the war?

I think its justifablely important enough that you could say it had an indirect but significant impact on the war. For example if the Brits were fighting there at the time would they been able to deal with European Problems.

What if I had an important scientist die, senting back something like the atomic bomb to after Japan was invaded?

Well, no because its people who IOTL had a significant effect on the second world war, not if they didnt inn OTL, but if they died then there would be a significant effect.

The important scientist is a usable one.

Nice entries so far. Seems like Im the only one working on an Axis victory. Spare me the stereotype jokes :p I think I will have it ready by tomorrow, if I add fancy graphic stuff maybe Friday...

I like Highlander's idea of doing it all in German, but in that case he should have put Grossbritannien instead of UK.

EdT's map is, as ever, awesome, very propaganda-poster-y. Soviet Israel??

Glad you like it, I thought it'd be fun to go for the propaganda feel. As for the Lefty Israel, I thought it'd be quite fun to have a pro-Soviet Jewish State surrounded by pro-western Arab ones for a change- in 1948 Czechoslovakia sold a fair few Bf 109s to the IDF and as even in OTL Israeli politics of time seem quite pinkish to me, so I suspect something could be done- maybe a worse Holocaust leading to the Soviets allowing emigration from the USSR itself or something along those lines?

I dunno, I mean, yes, there were plenty of former Soviet citizens in Israel and all that, but even without US support for Israel, it does seem a bit of an "imperialist" enterprise from a Marxist POV...

Are you aware of the 'parallel Israel' that the Soviets set up, and still exists, just north of Manchuria?

I really like Highlander's map, but one question: wouldn't the Mediterranean just be the 'Mittelmeer', not 'Mittelmeer Meer'?

Ah yes, my German is rusy; in this case it'll have to be Mediterranean Sea Sea :p

I thought about it, but actually, V.K. stands for Vereinigtes Königreich, so I though it'd work.

Awesome, AWESOME map EdT - I love the background you did for that!

I'd also like to note that I hope that the Judges don't base the winners just off the maps themselves, but look at the scenario as well (Like Bockop's and Thande's)

Ah. Well fair dos then, I thought it was just Ein Germanisches Uberfont! that made U look like V. Don't know if the Germans would use that abbreviation...but I'm only nitpicking. Like the lighting effects.

Damn, great maps (except for ones using the UCS. Which is to be scorned). The competition is steep this year... what's the font you used on your map, EdT?

I don't know, you could go the whole "Island of Socialism surrounded by a sea of feudal Arab States" route... I mean even OTL the 1949 Constitution of Israel stated that Israel was a "democratic and socialist". Maybe something along the lines of the USSR supporting partition etc as in OTL to irritate the British, and this becoming something more permenant. Doesn't neccesarily mean that Israel is a Stalinist Dictatorship or anything, just rather pink and pro-Russia.

Yeah, Birobidzhan right?

Appropriately enough, it's called 'Soviet'- type "Soviet Font" into google and you can download it from (I think) the first or second result.

Okay. I yield to EdT:eek:
Okay, not seriously. But the map... well, truthfully the poster with map is amazing.

And you gotta love Anglophones trying their hand on German :D
I would point out errors, though that would be just pompous. Though I do love "Verkleinerungslager". Miniaturisation/Ensmallment Camps? Camps where they make people small?

Let's see you write something in Eng... oh... right.

Google told me it was the translation for "reduction camps"... and I suppose it was, in a way.

I find the best way to get a decent translation of any real-life term is to find the Wiki article in English, make sure the foreign-language one is a word-for-word translation, and then work it out that way. That way, you know it's been done by native speakers rather than a computer programme.

Uh, if Long did anything like that, he'd have a massive rebellion on his hands. Instituting socialistic programs is one thing, but dissolving Congress, elections and instituting Martial Law? Not a chance in hell that the people would just roll over.
