Map challenge: What happened here?

- Cameroon, Chad, the Central African Republic, Gabon and the French Congo are one country (No idea how you pull this one off. Maybe Cameroon and Gabon become one country and conquer their neighbors?)

Partial explanation (including Chad as well is pretty difficult):

1909-11 POD where Germany manages to get colonial compensations in Gabon from France (perhaps in exchange of a free French hand in Morocco).

In 1914 Germany invades Belgium, and Belgian colonial forces overrun the German possessions in West Africa.

In 1918 Belgium (possibly as a reward for the conduct of its troops on the Western front) is allowed to keep Gabon and is also given the administration of the conquered German territories.

:)

I'm also noticing:

- Quebec has separated from Canada (but you made the good move of not having the whole province go, as that was highly unlikely IOTL)
- Paraguay lost a bunch of land to Bolivia (Fought a war and Paraguay lost, perhaps?)
- Zambia and Zimbabwe are one country (I'm guessing that they were made into one colony when they were still both called Rhodesia)
- Katanga and South Sudan are independent (Successful independence movements?)
- Cameroon, Chad, the Central African Republic, Gabon and the French Congo are one country (No idea how you pull this one off. Maybe Cameroon and Gabon become one country and conquer their neighbors?)
- Kashmir is not part of India OR Pakistan (not sure how you get this one, either)
- Something is up with the two Koreas (NK has collapsed and SK has taken over the process of rebuilding, maybe)
- Scotland is independent (Why do people keep going with this idea, anyways?)
- Morocco took over Western Sahara (Spain won't like that one bit)
- Turkey has taken over Cyprus (Without a genocide, this one is ASB)

It's quite obvious what has happened:

  • In the 1930s Paraguay lost the Chaco War.
  • In 1945 the post war settlement was more generous so Poland got the whole of East Prussia.
  • In the 1970s when the UK began the devolution process Scotland went one step further and proclaimed independence.
  • Morocco already occupies and administers virtually all of the Western Sahara in OTL.
  • Crimea has been the centre of a major dispute between the Ukraine as the Russian majority on the peninsula wants to remain part of Russia in OTL. In this time line it appears the Russians got their wish.
  • Prior to the partition between India and Pakistan in 1947 Kashmir was virtually independent. This map assumes that Kashmir retained its independence.
  • South Sudan and Katanga both have strong independence movements that, had outside groups not interfered in OTL, would've succeeded in achieving independence.
  • In this time line the 1974 Turkish invasion was a total success. It is unlikely that the Turks would've carried out a genocide in Cyprus.

  • French Equatorial Africa wasn't broken up when it became independent.
Of course, the thread author may challange me on this. :D
