Map Challenge: Peshawarism

I would like to propose a map challenge based around an idea I call Peshawarism (after the Peshawar Lancers). The principle of Peshawarism being that an ASB or semi-ASB natural event occurs in the past to disrupt history such as the asteroid strike in the P.L.

The Map:
  • Have any POD upto the present day.
  • Be set at any point in history, including the future.
  • Can be of the whole planet or any indivudal region of it.
  • POD can be anything "Peshawaristic" - i.e. Asteroid Strike, Plague, Supervolcano eruption, solar flare, ect.
Just a bit of fun. Gives a chance to get for the most part awat from the normal constraints imposed by A.H. Enjoy folks.

Here you are, with super death spread everywhere, indicated by maroon.

In the year 1840 a native trading village in central Eurasia ceased sending goods to the surrounding regions, prompting the other villages to send messengers to see why, of the 20 messengers sent, only 4 returned, reporting finding the village empty save for a few corpses, this prompted the villagers to ask the central government in Moscow for assistance, fearing an unknown attack force was in the region.
By 1855 the Great Plague as it became known had spread across Russia and into Eastern Europe. With the knowledge that the plague was headed their way and the sheer lethality of it (70-80% fatality rate) France, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain moved their governments and portions of their populations to secure island possessions and other areas around the globe in places the disease had not spread, though not before checking none of those being moved were carriers (many set-up check-points on isolated islands), however while in some cases this was easy (France simply had to move across the Mediterranean and inland 50 miles), it was not so easy for others, especially given that many did not have a great deal of territory close enough.
By the year 1860 the disease had reached its maximum extent, ranging from West France to Central China.
By the year 1870 the disease had vanished (it would be found in later years that the disease spread so fast because no group of Humans had an immunity to it, but the disease itself was fundamentally weak, and immunities developed), in the end the world population had been reduced from 1.2 billion to 600 million, primarily in Eurasia.
The affect was disproportionate do to various preventative measures in different countries, examples being; 94% of the population of Belgium had been killed, while it had only killed 50% of the French, 25% of the Iberians (the Pyrenees proved to be a good natural barrier) 20% of the British, 10% of Africans only between 3-9% of North Americans, South Americans, East Asians (China being the outlier losing 30%), Oceanian's and Indians.
Over the following decades the remaining countries, particularly the colonial powers would absorb the now empty or defenseless colonies and empty countries into their own, however this would not be done easily.
Ever since the disease had hit their had been survivors, either the small percent who had survived the disease itself or who had survived in isolated pockets, in Europe these communities would become interlinked, sharing the common goal of surviving and rebuilding and the common hatred of the countries and governments that had abandoned them to die.
By 1910 the various survivors in Europe had rebuilt their societies to pre-disease levels, in many cases beyond them with the introduction of new technology, however a mixture of hatred towards the old countries and regimes and a sheer lack of enough numbers of any one ethno-national group to recreate any of the old countries a Congress of all the various cities, villages and societies was called.
After five years of negotiations and writing the Europa Republic was established in 1915 out of the various territories of Europe that the survivors called home.
In 1917, following decades of American pressure (as well as the knowledge that Britain had more important areas to focus on) a referendum in Canada on Union was passed with 52% voting yes, this would lead to the formation of the United States of North America.
By 1920 many of the colonial powers, who had'nt been paying attention to Europe, being more concerned with maintaining the remainder of their countries (in the case of France and the Ottomans, rebuilding after Revolution) and in many cases having to build the infrastructure of civilization, or atleast improve it, turned their focus towards retaking Europe, in most cases generally wanting to retake territory that had been their own before the great death had occurred.
In 1922 the French Republican Empire sent a detachment of scouts to see what was left of the old capital of Paris, the detachment would return having suffered heavy losses to very pissed off and armed Europan civilians (ironically being the descendants of the French survivors).
For the time being the French would focus on retaking southern coastal France.
In 1926 France asked for the return of all French territory being held by the Europan Republic to which they were, bluntly told to (equivalent saying) fuck off and die.
In 1928 the Allied Forces, France, Britain, Netherlands (based in Asia and the Caribbean), New Scandinavia and the Ottoman Republic declared war on the Europan Republic and, by way of treaty, its Ally the Novo-Rus Republic. By 1930 the Japanese Empire, seeing a chance to extend its influence allied itself with Allies, declaring war against the Euro-Rus alliance.
By 1936 the United States of North America and her allies and puppets, for various reasons, including trade and humanitarian reasons declared war on the Euro-Rus alliance.
By 1939 the war had come to a stalemate, with both sides having gained and lost ground.
In 1940 the neutral Anzac Federation hosted a conference of all sides and after a month of negotiations announced the Treaty of Adelaide, officially ending the war and solidifying borders.

The premise of this one is that, circa 1960, a gamma-ray burst hits South America, eastern North America, Western Europe, most of Africa, and Tau Ceti.

Close enough to get significant doom, but far enough to avoid total doom.

The Draka-esque colony of escaped Nazi war criminals (led by Adolf Eichmann?) in otherwise-decimated South America was a nice touch. :D
