Having investigated the Manchu, I don't think that they were in a position to do that, especially as they didn't exist as an actual nation, well, an actual state, during that period, but rather several confederacies of tribes.

A migration would be needed, or a great population boom for starters.

A Manchurian unification as the one achieved by Nurhaci in the late 1500s and early 1600s might also be a requirement.

Yep a Migration would be needed in it..

A Manchurian unification during a period of Ming strength means they turn north instead? Maybe they can get paid off by the Chinese to police the border and keep the Mongols under control. The Manchus could then beat off the Russians when they arrive in the southern regions around Lake Baikal and such, but a few Russians are likely to get through in the far north outside of Manchu roaming areas. If there is an economic or political incentive to expand, then maybe the Manchus could move into those areas. And if they get to Chukotka then I don't see what would stop them from reaching America, though I'm not sure what they'd want to do there.
