Man doesn't develope a taste to Cow's Milk

Weird and Disgusting Warning (Well depending on your tastes and attitudes).

I was discussing with a gentleman who wishes to remain anonymous as he used a throw away account to debate me.

To sum up over 50 pages of debate, here is the crux of the matter.

Basically, he was saying if man hadn't developed a taste for cow milk we would have stuck with human milk, I'm not kidding he really made that claim.

Now I'll be the first to say my wife's breastmilk makes for a fine coffee creamer, Ice Cream, sore throat medicine, excellent sore eyes medicine, etc in addition to feeding my Eight month old daughter. There is a reason man domesticated cows for milk, mainly that a single cow makes as much milk as 25 human women do. Also overlooking that we domesticated goats first for their milk before cows.

Now lets take his claim at face value and say that man actually made women into dairy cattle in a scene out of a BDSM novel:

What are the ethical issues that society would face doing so, and would it care?

How, would that affect human development as many inventions and methods such as sewing, fish nets, clothes, cloth, etc were invented by women who by necessity and boredom created them as they were "easy" to do while breastfeeding their children.

How would this affect human evolution?

There are many other issues too numerous to list, but I trust you can see the same problems with this guy's ideal as I did and why its not a good ideal.

I think you're right.

After all, MOST of the human race doesn't like cow's milk (lactose intolerance). They just aren't into any kind of milk or milk products so much.

Well, bovine milk's handy - but it could be replaced by sheep/goat milk. It's prime benefit is that it's designed to get a lot of nutrients to a newborn, thus facilitating growth. So without it, I'd expect populations of shorter, less well-developed people.

Horse milk is actually closest to Human milk in nutrients, Mongol warriors rode Mares because of that fact. Also bovine milk is rather poor at building health up in humans compared to human milk and its meat that provides the most protein for growth. The advantage to bovine milk is that you can get alot of it.

It is also a more effective way of extracting food from a cow than barbecuing it by a factor of four although I doubt the sums were done at the time. Whilst grass might be free, animals have to be raised.

Certainly doesn't taste as good, though.

Without cow's milk the areas where I and my ancestors have lived for thosands of years probably would have been very sparsely populated. If you wanted to live here diary farming was the way to go - still is a major business.

Redbeard is right.

Northern Europeans tend to need milk in the winter since their skin cannot produce enough Vitamin D with the shorter hours of daylight. This lack of Vitamin D would cause a number of problems; calcium loss from the bones, supress/elevate the immune system, cancer cells don't become apoptotic,...

This is one of the reasons europeans, and some asiatic peoples developed pale skins. It allows more UV-A rays to strike the skin producing vitamin D and then the same rays convert it to 1,25-Vitamin D. Since the sun is brighter the closer to the equator you are, peoples in these areas developed dark skin pigments to block the harmful rays. They still get sufficient UV-A to produce Vitamin D.
