In the film X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, mutant extremist Mystique breaks with mutant extremist (and her sometimes boyfriend) Magneto to dramatically save U.S. President Richard Nixon from assassination. As a result, by the time of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE (I haven't seen it yet, so no spoilers) mutants are apparently popular instead of being feared and hated.

The closest analogy I can think of to Mystique in this scenario is Malcolm X, who rejected the Nation of Islam's racism after visiting Mecca and seeing Muslims of all colors worshiping together. He then got assassinated by the more extreme elements of the Nation.

So...

What if his assassination is avoided and he's instrumental in foiling an assassination attempt on a US President by more extreme black-radical types (the Nation of Islam or Communists who wanted a separate Southern black nation)? What effects does this have on the civil-rights movement?
