Make the 'Nehru/Mao/Blofeld' jacket replace the suit and tie

How about having Western fans of anime start wearing gakuran as a fashion statement?

That wouldn't really help them to replace the suit and tie in business or in general, really. Anime fans tend not to be fashion trend setters, especially in elite circles. Most people would probably think of it the same way as a westerner wearing a kimono or something - a bit cringeworthy.

Burn every necktie ever created.....

uncomfortable, forever in the way, designed to use once without being stained, but priced like like they're made of gold thread.... gah!

Had on - I've a suit jacket that I got a decade or so back that I wear occasionally and I used it for an interview a few weeks back. The banqueting waiters at work wear something similar instead of shirt and tie. They actually look rather cool.

All right, then another option: in the 1980s, when people in the Western world begin to obsess about Japanese exports, Japanese management methods, etc., the gakuran becomes fashionable among young professionals as a symbol of hard work, excellence, and willingness to apply new methods, unlike the stuffy necktie-wearing old geezers.

asbish: the mao suit is ugly and looks horrible on almost everyone

I actually like it (and not just for its Chinese/communist associations) and would love to own one--personally I'd rather wear it than a suit and tie, and Western men's clothing needs an update.
