Major Religions Challenge

Make these the top world religions:

Ganesh-worship
Zoroastrianism
Isis-worship
A buddhism-like religion coming with Siberian origins.

I wonder if most of these might be accomplished in the same way. What if the Persians under Xerxes won at Salamis and won quickly and easily at Thermopylae in 5th century BC? If the Persians had gone on to conquer Greece, Zoroastrianism might have been introduced to the west early enough to become the dominant monotheistic faith. Let us further suppose that Alexander never becomes a military leader because of the Persian conquest therefor Egypt remains Egyptian. In response to the male god of the Persians the Egyptians rally to their mother-goddess Isis, and the other gods fade away. In a similar way, the Indian subcontinent is left alone on the other side of Persia. The rise of theistic Hinduism comes earlier, and instead of centering around Krishna, focuses on Ganesh. I realize this is all very simplistic, and I hope others can provide more detail on this or another idea. Finally, and as the biggest stretch, the rise of Ganesh-Hinduism precludes Buddhism proper. Instead, another teacher at the edges of Chinese and Hindu culture in Siberia (the followers of Ganesh are more interested in proselytizing) comes forward with a Buddhism-like faith with more animist overtones. Thus my poor contribution ends.

Isis-worship

Isis worship was quite popular in Rome so perhaps we could have the female-based Isis worship connect with the similarly male-based Mithras worhip.

Have Mithras "marry" Isis

For Mithras to become the "official" religion of you would probably have to have an Emperor convert to Mithras worship. Any suggestions??

Hawkwood,

That's a good scenario right there.

I also had the notion of the Iside (Isis) religion taking over instead of Christianity. That would certainly butterfly away Islam, leaving Zoroastrianism important.
