Magellan In Edo MK2

I have been itching to make a world timeline instead of a local timeline because normally Localized Timelines tend to ignore butterflies in other areas and lack liberties, I am reviving this timeline because I am interested again in this POD, this is a world timeline - not a localized timeline..

MAGELLAN IN EDO

The first known contact between Guam and Western Europe occurred when Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer, anchored his small 3-ship fleet in Umatac Bay on March 6, 1521. Magellan had started out in Spain with five ships but by the time they reached the Marianas they were down to three ships and lost close to half their crew. One of the five original ships got destroyed, and after seeing the first ship go down another ship had a mutiny and took off. So two of the five ships and its men were lost by the time they got to the Marianas. Hungry and weakened from their long voyage, the crew quickly prepared to go ashore and restore provisions. However, the excited native Chamorros, who did not share the Spaniards concept of ownership or subsistence living, canoed out first and began helping themselves to everything that was not nailed down to the ship. "The aboriginals were willing to engage in barter... The natives exchanged their fruits for weapons and guided them in their islands.

Details of Magellan's visit, and the first known Western documentation of Guam and the Chamorro, come from the journal of Antonio Pigafetta, one of Magellan's 18 original crew members to survive Ferdinand Magellan's circumnavigation of the globe.

The Chamorros were kind and accommodating to Magellan that some converted to Christianity, although some were against the white explorers the nobles were kind to Magellan’s expedition since they saw him in good faith.

Magellan decided to discover the islands north which was also settled by the Chamorro since he felt that the Chamorros were a nice people and want to discover more about them. He discovered new islands at the north of the island of the Chamorros called the Marianas Islands and then islands which were uninhabited (in OTL which is now known as Ogasawara/Bonnin islands) which were empty, which led to the Izu Islands which contain Hachijo Jima and Oshima and later to Edo in Nihon where they were able to tour and they toured as well to the Southern Islands.

On their way they discovered a big island , south of Japan and the Kingdom of the Ryukyu filled with Savages, he called his settlement in the island, Nueva Valencia(OTL Taiwan).

The crew of Magellan visited South of China particularly Canton after leaving Nueva Valencia, then they arrived in Tonkin Gulf then to Borneo where they set sail to the Indian Ocean and passed to the Cape of Good Hope then Circumnavigated Africa and were able to arrive back in Spain on October 1522 and Magellan said he arrived safe and went to see his son and wife again and report to King Charles V in order to report his journey and about what he found out, this time, Charles V is still celebrating his own victory against the comuneros.

Catherine of Aragon as Mary of Magdalene
II

On 1518, Catherine of Aragon had a dead baby who died a few moments after Birth, however on 1522, she was discovered to be pregnant again, the pregnancy was difficult and was the last chance of her marriage with her husband to bloom.

She prayed in the monastery of Canterbury to saint Catherine in order to give her the son that she needed and she hoped not that the new child is not a daughter, a nun would tell Catherine of Aragon to stop her fasting and just focus on her well being and on her pregnancy for the future of the country.

As she entered her labor on the latter part of 1522, Catherine of Aragon would feel very happy that she is pregnant and that happiness is also combined with the excitement about the child, she had a difficult labor and it was unsure if she was to survive afterwards giving birth, the labor took several hours and she gave birth to twins, hours it was announced that one of the twins was a boy.

After Catherine of Aragon had given birth, it was announced that she gave birth to twins, a girl and a boy, the boy is named as Edward and the girl is named as Isabel, named after Elizabeth of York and Isabella of Castile.

The news came to Charles V of HRE congratulated Henry VIII of England on the birth of heir to the throne, both Charles V and Henry VIII were both overjoyed.

The Young Mary Tudor
III

Magellan arrives in Spain from his long journey and told his journey to Charles V on 1523, they discovered a route to Asia, back and forth and his land discoveries, Charles V was entertained by the stories of Magellan.

Charles V would be interested in the discovery and he would want further expeditions to the area explored by Magellan

In this time Henry VIII would betroth his eldest surviving daughter Mary Tudor to Luis, the Duke of Beja.

Mary Tudor is 7 year old at this time and the birth of two siblings have changed her life from uncertainty into her own possible early marriage.

At an earlier point, Mary Tudor was betrothed to Charles V, however the betrothal was ended due to Charles V marrying a portuguese Princess, Isabella of Portugal, however, a portuguese Prince shown interest in her.

At a certain time, Mary Tudor was betrothed to the Dauphin, Francis III, Duke of Brittany after Charles V dropped his betrothal and he offered Luis of Beja, but the betrothal was dropped due to the birth to Isabella Tudor now betrothed to Francis III duke of Brittany, however due to the King of England preferred to have the eldest daughter of the King and third line to the throne to be married to someone not likely to inherit a kingdom, only the betrothal of Luis of Beja is that what remained instead of the betrothal to the Dauphin.

A map of Majapahit..

IV

On 1527, the last emperor of Majapahit would be defeated by the ruler of Demak, however the emperor escapes, which would change the balance of things and it would mean that the trade of Japan to Java via Selurong will be disrupted, Selurong, which are vassals of Majapahit would suffer since it was attached to Majapahit since the times of Raden Vijaya due to one of its princesses was a concubine of Raden Wijaya.

The last of the Majapahit King Brawijaya became a friend of one of the Children of Ferdinand Magellan after the collapse of Majapahit.

The nobles of Selurong started to contact South, due to the Borneans preventing the contact of Selurong and Demak, which caused the end of Majapahit-Japan trade.

The Kingdoms and City States of Selurong would recognize Demak as the successor Kingdom of Majapahit on 1570’s just after the Southern Part of the island had recognized the Bruneians as their own allies, in this time the Island of Selurong has been infested by Wakou or Japanese pirates.

The Majapahit vassals in its territory, Selurong were the cities of Faru, Tundun, Kaboloan, Makabebe, Meykawayan and Bigan and the Kingdom of Selurong.

The same dilemma happened to the Kingdoms of Java in the home island of Majapahit and Sunda which created a treaty with the Kingdom of Portugal accepting their missionaries, while Demak tried to assert itself as the successor of Majapahit but it failed.

Majapahit was the equivalent of the Hanseatic league of the Europe.

An early portrait of Maria, Duchess of Beja

V
On 1530, the Young Princess Mary of England bid good bye to her family top join her groom, Luis, Duke of Beja, she is just 14 years old.

She went to the court of Francis II where in she was able to meet her former fiancee, the Dauphin and she stayed there for days.

She was impressed by the Dauphin and quite regretted the abandonment of her betrothal, but the Dauphin did not like her.

The Dauphin Francis Duke of Brittany did not hide his dislike of her, because he found Mary very strong willed and just like her mother, however Mary shown a painting of his new betrothed Isabella of England and he was amazed of her.

The Dauphin Francis told Mary that she is more fit as a Queen of Spain rather than as a Queen of France.

She arrived in Spain on the Spanish court which shown her mother’s country and also visited her dead relatives and there were lots of surprises like the presence of Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire.

A few months after leaving England, she met Luis of Beja in Lisbon, there she was married to the Duke of Beja just after arriving.

Magellan would return to Nueva Valencia aka Taiwan creating a new colony in the North East of the island called as Nueva Valencia on 1540.

The area was dubbed as an area of savages, however, the Spanish were quick to convert the Atayales to christianity.

Magellan would describe the people named as the Atayales and explored the Ryukyus, the island between Nueva Valencia(Taiwan), he dubbed the Ryukyus as the Nueva Belares,. however at that time the Kingdom of Ryukyus remains stable and would not be conquered by the Spanish.

The Island of Taiwan would be used as the colony wherein the Chinese would trade with Spanish of their gold and silver in the Americas.

Magellan would establish the town of Valencia on Nueva Valencia as its capital.
